Ha! I have a few on you. Still hanging in there. Some of the lumps I took when I worked for Uncle Sam are definitely rearing their ugly heads. This cold weather isn't doing me any favors. If your email is correct, we have more in common than you know.

LOL My son & daughter-in-law are both in their late 30's. They are both Veterans. Our DIL is a naturalized Costa Rican American, and proud to be American. They have given us 3 beautiful grandchildren (twin granddaughters, and a grandson). Our grandson was born in Japan. We're very proud of them. We have a unique view of immigration because of our family. I don't remember what my son did when he was 17. Sometimes, I don't remember what I did yesterday. I usually lock my vehicles with my FOB at least 4 times for good measure because I can't remember if I did it yet or not. If people think it's my alarm, I blame it on stray cats.

My beliefs are best described as a fiscally conservative libertarian. Not the Libertarian Party. I’m not a fan of the Patriot Act or some of the tools described in the articles I linked without heavy guardrails. Even then, I wouldn’t trust the guardrails being respected. These tools could easily be used similar to warrantless searches. That’s why I posted the links. People should be aware and make their own judgement on their privacy concerns. I support the immigration efforts, I think the paid agitators and those involved in the underground networks with a purpose of interfering with the immigration deportation efforts should be arrested, jailed, and forced to pay for any damages public or private. Same token, I think body cams on all are good for authorities and the public. I think the agents should be able to wear masks if they choose. But, they should clearly identify themselves as their official capacity in a more standard fashion.

Yes. While LEO's operate under fairly static rules, the threats to them are as real as they were to me. The only difference is that my conduct under DOD was regulated differently on each assignment by mission specific Rules of Engagement. I think this has been a very good discussion about the law. We’ve tried to apply what we know of case law to the current information we have on the tragedy that I think NONE OF US wish had happened. Nothing wrong with a little speculation/scenarios/debate based on news reporting. Otherwise, we’d all just sit around—without a care in the world—and wait for someone to tell us what was right or wrong without ever engaging our own brains. That’s not me. I LIKE using my brain, and trying to understand. Whether I agree or not really isn’t the issue. To me, this discussion has more information that’s relevant in the last 2 or 3 pages than probably 95%+ of the public will ever get.
