I would expect nothing less. I’ve seen a couple Lufkin games this year. Before the season began, I had 9-5A as LP, PAM, GCM/Lufkin interchangeable. I still haven’t given up on that prediction. But, I’d obviously prefer it to happen with a loss by y’all and BU. Sorry. I actually think both are likely. As far as rest, LP is a lot more than just Simon. He only has 3 games all year with over 20 carries. He still has almost 1600 yards rushing and 21 TD’s. Our Sophomore RB Dieudonne has right at 700 yards and 11 TD’s. So, teams can’t just focus on Simon in the run game. LP is also a lot more balanced this year. About 65/35 mix. (Over 1500 yards passing, 19 TD’s, 1 INT & over 2700 yards rushing with 39 TD’s.) In district play, LP is averaging 53 ppg, and giving up 24 ppg. LP’s D isn’t near what some may believe. Many of those points given up were after the games were already decided. It’s good to have some Lufkin posters here posting finally. I’m kind of outside the SETX core area also. It’s kinda lonely. 😎

The young man throws a good ball. But, he needs some help from a run game bad. I liked the BU coach from the first interview I heard from him early this year. He seems like a good fit over there.

Believe me…that still stings around here. Great motivator. That’s why you’ll hear people around here say “All gas. No brakes.” Abseck and staff have history with LP. They know what they’re walking into.

Looking at these scenarios, the only difference between them and the point system is the Lufkin and Sterling both win scenario, and Lufkin would be in either way at 5-3. The rest are the same. (Well, RSS would already be technically eliminated in the point system. But, they realistically are in this system as well.)

I really have no idea. I put my thoughts in the 9-5A thread. I don't have a direct connection to the team. If I were to place a bet, I'd bet a 'No.'

Right now, GCM, Lufkin, BU, and BWB ALL still have a chance to make the PO's. It depends on if it's a 3-way, or 4-way tie. Lufkin and BWB are in as the #3 & 4 seed with a Lufkin win over LP. If Lufkin loses to LP, GCM is in the catbird seat if it's a 4-way tie as they can get in with either a BU or RSS win. With GCM being done with district play, they just have to wait and watch. Lufkin and GCM have 2 ways to get in. BU and BWB only have 1 way to get in. RSS, NC, & GB are eliminated. I don't know how LP will play the game vs Lufkin. I assume the staff would love to rest some players for the PO's. But, I also know they don't want to lose their undefeated district win streak, or share a district title. I'd also imagine they want to go into the PO's on an upswing firing on all cylinders. On an individual player note, Simon can probably eclipse 2,000 yards and 25 TD’s again in 2 games at the pace he’s on. I’d think that would be something all would like to see happen. It would set him up to possibly eclipse 8,000 career rushing yards next year. Plus, I believe LP is on pace for a school scoring record in a season. Pretty sure that’s something they’d like to attain as a team.

No excuses other than I just stink. Small schools I’ve never even heard of are wiping me out. But, I have gotten a lot better with my geography. 😊

I’m waiting for the day we hear of a scandal where Coach played talented little Johnny more because he was going to get some NIL $$$, and Johnny’s parents promised a kickback to Coach for playing time & treatment. You know it’s coming. Some of these parents are shopping their kids all over already.

I wonder how much of this behavior is related to social media and possible NIL $$$ in the future for some of the players. Seems like quite a few coaches are losing control of their young men nowadays. My mom made me stop playing when I got to high school, so I just kept on with baseball & swimming. But, even in those sports, Coach would’ve had us riding the pine if we’d have done some of this stuff. It didn’t matter how good we were.

You should watch the game from last night. LP was trying so many funky new plays, I thought Frankenstein had come out early & was calling plays. It was like, “Hey! I’ve always wanted to try this…let’s call it.” 😂😂🤣 If it didn’t work, just hand it to Simon or Dieudonne. Done. Next.

Just have to give a few kudos as a homer. La Porte has now won their 4th straight District Championship (8-5AD1 in 2023, 11-5AD1 in 2024 & 2025, and 9-5AD1 in 2026). They’ve won 24 district games in a row with one district game left this year. Their last district loss was October 6 of 2023 when PAM came from behind to beat them in Port Arthur 38-27. In district play in the last 4 years, they are 28-1.

Lufkin will know if they HAVE to beat LP or not before they ever make the drive down to Bulldog since RSS hosts BU on Thursday.

What a turn this would be if Ball were to pull the upset. Appropriate. But a turn. 😅

BWB could make the PO's in a 3-way tie. They would need Lufkin to beat LP, or GCM to lose to GB. They would then be the #4 seed, assuming they beat GB. They won't get in with a 4-way scenario. BWB HAS to have Lufkin beat LP. Lufkin only needs RSS to beat BU. But, Lufkin is assured of the #3 seed with a win over LP.

I'd have to run a scenario where Lufkin beats LP, and it becomes only a 3-way tie. But--off the top of my head--since Lufkin would automatically become the 3 seed, I think GCM would grab 4. Let me check... LP & PAM are locked into #1 & 2 regardless of anything else that happens. So, we're only looking at 3 & 4 seeds.

If this district ends in a 4-way tie, BWB is on the outside looking in regardless of the outcome of BU vs RSS. This loss may have taken them out of PO contention entirely. 9-5A had such parity--and inconsistent play due to talent, but youth IMHO--a team that was playing really well may have just been eliminated. Everyone knew you had to bring your 'A' game every week.

Playoff Scenarios (Assuming GCM & BWB beat GB): IF BU beats RSS: GCM +11 BU +7 BWB -3 Lufkin -15 GCM & BU would advance as #3 & 4 respectively. PO seeds would be La Porte, PAM, GCM & BU in that order. La Porte & PAM with home field in Bi-District. IF RSS beats BU: Lufkin +21 GCM +7 BWB +1 RSS -29 Lufkin & GCM would advance as #3 & 4 respectively. PO seeds would be La Porte, PAM, Lufkin & GCM in that order. La Porte & PAM with home field in Bi-District. ***Interesting sidenote - In the summer, I predicted a PO breakdown of La Porte, PAM, GCM/Lufkin with GCM and Lufkin a toss-up for the 3 & 4 seeds... BWB vs GCM -7, RSS +18, BU +14, Lufkin -10 GCM vs BWB +7, RSS -7, BU -3, Lufkin +7 Lufkin vs GCM -7, RSS +18, BU -18, BWB +10 BU vs GCM +3, BWB -14, Lufkin +18, RSS ?
