California Losing Important Valero Oil Refinery!
OlDawg replied to Reagan's topic in Political Forum
Phillips 66 is also closing & Chevron is relocating HQ to H-Town. Bakersfield has been pretty much down since before I retired. It’s a shell of itself. Strictly small player biodiesel now I believe. Just watch. The Anacortes refinery will be next. Washington State can’t be outdone by Cali. LOL Going to be interesting now that the House has passed the bill to negate Cali’s ability to ban gas vehicles. They’ll be in worse shape than Florida that has to ship everything in via truck or ship. -
I’d prefer we go back to the ‘old way’ of requiring a three judge panel at the District Court level to impose a national injunction or vacatur verdict, and use the immigration judge system as was intended. Our Federal Court system isn’t set up to handle thousands of habeas corpus cases for illegal immigrants, and you can rest assured the word is already out to try & flood the system to slow down/halt the immigration crackdown. Congress needs to act to reinstate the old policy that was around until the late ‘70’s/80’s timeframe, and Roberts needs to get his folks in line. The judge shopping needs to stop, as it’s been shown the Judicial Branch can’t seem to regulate itself. Congress can easily revert to the old policy and restore a little sanity/legitimacy. I was reading where the Obama Administration had 6 nationwide injunctions. The Biden Administration had 14 policies stopped with a nationwide injunction. Almost all were handled by judges put in place by Republican Administrations (Other than rulings on student loans & the No Evictions effort that was tried & shot down by SCOTUS). Trump has had 59 national injunctions so far (far more than any other POTUS in history), and 92% were District Court judges appointed by Democratic Administrations. I’d have to find the source again. It was a legal review commission in cooperation with Congressional interest. Congress seems to know it’s a problem. May 15 could be interesting. For those that argue the other guy wasn’t/isn’t following the law, it’s interesting to note that both the Biden & Trump Administrations are ignoring Federal Law passed by Congress to ban TikTok. Selective enforcement isn’t owned by one Party or the other. The Judiciary is quickly losing what credibility it had. When it loses it all, we’ll REALLY have a crisis. I’m no fan of EO’s anyway. So, I’m biased in that regard.

I understand. This will be a long post, so don’t read if you wish. I’ll try to explain my thoughts. To answer your gas questions, this was my business for decades. Gas is a commodity that fluctuates with the seasons & barrel pricing. While Brent & WTI are low right now, Spring seasonal blends (required for environmental regulations) add significant cost. I wouldn’t expect prices to come down a lot until late summer if the barrel price remains low. Mudbugs are expensive everywhere this year. Plus, core season isn’t until Mid May. You’ll pay more the earlier you buy. Now, to the core with some background. I grew up on a farm in far north Texas. We were literally poor as the dirt we farmed & went bankrupt due to a bad season & weather. My dad was able to get on at the local DuPont La Porte plant starting out bagging 100 lb bags and paid back all of our debts. I learned to be frugal at an early age. My wife & I have always lived well below our means. I shop for basics at Aldi as I find them much cheaper than anyone else. Other groceries I typically buy at Kroger using digital or regular coupons. If it’s not on sale—or I don’t have a coupon—I don’t buy it. We only eat out 1 or 2x a month. Then, it’s usually Chilis, or Subway, or our local Texmex. Sometimes, Popeyes—if I have a coupon. I use my Veteran discount everywhere that allows. My wife’s disease is untreatable & incurable. It is a Parkinson’s Plus disease (CBD/PSP) which has a life expectancy of 7 years. We’ve beaten that already by almost a year. Every day is a blessing. I’m sure you know what I mean & Im sorry for your cancer. Wishing you the best! What I don’t want is to lose her prematurely because of a side effect that we can’t get medical care to address. For the first time, I didn’t vote. So, I won’t slam. But, I can critique with—what I try to be fair—criticisms. I wouldn’t have voted for Harris—period. Trump scared me with his stance on medical. But, I felt he would be better on immigration & the economy. Not a fan of tariffs, but I understand his goal. I wish the tax cuts being permanent had been first on his agenda. I’m good with immigration. Basically, I’m okay for now with his performance. I haven’t seen a large spike in prices because of how I shop. The prices that are higher have been higher since the last administration and are because of ‘sticky prices.’ Once they go up, they rarely come back down to Pre-inflation levels. We’ll see how it goes from here. -

??? We don’t import toilet paper from overseas. We don’t import most bread. We don’t even import the packaging materials. Hyperbole much? Before retirement, I did a lot of work with China. Was a lead design engineer for multiple Lubrizol projects in China. As soon as they were complete, the CCCP basically took them over. I’m pretty familiar with the Chinese economic system. Their collapse would happen long before the U.S. -
I think they knew. I just think it was the biggest fraud ever perpetuated on the American people. I may not be a major Trump fan—although I do like more than a few of his policies during these times—but how people can claim he’s a dictator, an oligarch, and all this other nonsense about a threat to democracy when they themselves totally disregarded democracy the last election cycle is beyond me. If I was a Democratic voter, after what the Party did with superdelegates to put Clinton over Sanders, and then oust Biden—after voters selected him— & installed Harris, I wouldn’t trust them with my vote. They’ve proven to not give a whit what their voters want. At least the Republicans let their voters choose the candidate. For better or worse. I can see this, and I’m a frickin independent, libertarian kinda guy who thinks they’re opposite sides of the same coin.

Make up for it for him. I dare say everyone here would root for you—regardless of your political disagreements. Your Maker gave you everything you need to succeed.

China dropped their 125% tariff on ethane from the U.S. this morning. They buy 50% of their ethane from the U.S. Hard to make all that cheap, plastic crap they sell to everyone without ethane. They must be hurting worse than many think. (Still a free/fair trade guy. Maybe this is a breakthrough for talks.)

Sorry about your uncles. As for your Dad, you weren’t even an itch in his pants in the ‘60’s. But, you’ve taken his seat at the back of the bus voluntarily. As for the Trail of Tears, read a little. Educate yourself instead of feeling like you’re owed something.

There are those who wish to be victims, and those who don’t. You can’t help those who do.

Sounds like it was a tight game. Pretty decent series. Good Luck!
-
BH too tough. Looked like LP had the lead for a little while early. Just ran into a buzz saw. Still, not a bad game.
-
And some of mine walked the Trail of Tears. What’s your point?

Just like an Aggie. Couldn’t find the back door. 🙄

Ran outta reactions for today. But, sometimes I remember playing a little sick where Mom would take me to the local drug store. It had a soda/ice cream fountain booth & God’s perfect reading material. COMIC BOOKS! Yeah, I had to take some yucky cough syrup stuff. But, the ice cream & comic book was worth it. Ice cream & comic was about .25 depending on the ice cream.

A little levity is good for the soul.

Lmao. Still remember that dude. You’re definitely from Texas. People still wonder why I laugh so much & jam out during ‘The Big Chill.’

Got em after I got back from the Navy. Was a late bloomer. Always told people “Uncle Sam taught me how to blow things up. I figured I may as well learn how to rebuild them.” LOL

Safe to assume none of us went to Harvard. Oddly enough, I do have two degrees though. Engineering & BSBM. Must have gotten the urge from building the skateboard & ramps & conning my buddies into jumping also.
