Terrell Bernard (2017 La Porte) wasn’t highly recruited. Not even sure he made the rating services. He went to Baylor, and had a solid college career. Some would say better than solid as the Captain on a very good Bears D. Now, he’s the Co-Captain along with Josh Allen, and the starting LB for the Buffalo Bills. These player ratings are as much pure guess as they are science. But, they’re fun for us to look at, take a little shared pride in as alums, and give the young men something to work towards.

What Week 2 game(s) will you be attending?

Will be keeping everyone updated on LP/Kingwood while watching the LPsportsNET broadcast. I’ll have Mama Dawg fed & in her chair, dressed in her classic Fighting Bulldog T-Shirt ready to bark. (She cracks me up when she smiles and does her bulldog woof.) -
Y’all get them at home. Turner is a tough place to play.

A lot of growth! I don't see y'all having any issues with BWood. In fact, with y'all'schedule, I don't see any real challengers until--MAYBE--Kingwood Park at their place in mid October. One game is a small sample size. We'll have to see how KP plays against a pretty decent Dayton club in Dayton. They put the points up on Montgomery in a pretty good fashion.

DCTF has this game as a 4 point win for LP at home. Interesting, because I was going to go with the same score as last week: 35-31 LP. Matt Stepp has LP by 2. I really hope the 2nd week improvement from the D shows up. No arm tackling & seal the edges. Shut down the run game, and I think the secondary can make enough plays to get the win. The Dawgs are going to have to play a clean game to get this one against a really tough Mustang squad that often gets overlooked because of NS, Atascocita, and Summer Creek also being in 23-6A. Kingwood is ranked 14 in 6A in the GHA/Region 3 by another publication, and is carrying a lot of momentum after their long PO run last year. Every opponent is going to bring their best game to LP to try to give the Dawgs the first loss in the new stadium. The Dawgs are going to have to match their intensity.

I liked the Wehby kid from what I saw on video. Young man is fast & elusive with good hands. Saw he also is dangerous on returns & ran one back for a TD. The QB seems to be a lot better passer than DP QB, and Kingwood’s overall passing attack looks more potent. Their D pitched a shutout. So, that’s never something to overlook. Big, physical team. Agree this will be a tough one. The Dawgs won’t be able to fall behind like they did against DP, and they are really going to have to wrap up better.

Kingwood will need to account for more than just Simon. The Dawgs have rediscovered another weapon that hasn't been used on offense since he was a freshman. Sr. First Team All District LB Ashton Ruffin is alternating in on offense in the backfield with Simon: 135 yards rushing 10 ypc 65 yards receiving 200 Total yards 5 Solo Tackles 3 TD's (2 rushing, 1 receiving) Sean Simon had another Simon performance even as the Deer keyed on him all game: 297 yards rushing 8.7 ypc 2 TD's

South Oak Cliff (41) @ Galena Park North Shore (31) FINAL
OlDawg replied to jdawg03's topic in High School Football
Coach Aymond and Kay did more than just build a program of excellence. They helped keep the young men in that part of town out of trouble. The North Shore/NE Houston area is known as gang central in Texas, and has been for years. I’m not trying to cast aspersions, but I’m not sure Gaston has the same level of control. It may be the times. It may be the kids. But, I have a hard time imagining this type activity would fly under Kay. -
Last year, Kingwood took a close win against the Bulldogs at Turner Stadium 28-21. This year, La Porte looks to pay back the Mustangs at Bulldog Stadium. Kingwood began their 2025 campaign in impressive fashion, blanking Clear Creek 38-0. Haug (RB/LB) punished Creek's defense with his big 6'-2" 220 lb. frame, while QB Hinson had an accurate and effective night through the air. Wehby (WR) has impressive speed and hands and looked to be a favorite target. Shorts (WR) is another speedster with good hands. Protecting Hinson, and opening holes is star OL Brown (6'-5", 280). Defensively, the Mustangs are ball hawks, and fared very well in the tough 23-6A and PO's, eventually losing to district mate Humble Summer Creek in the 4th Round. La Porte began their 2025 campaign with a 35-31 win over 2024 6AD1 Bidistrict Deer Park in the heated Border Battle in the inaugural game at the new Bulldog Stadium. The Bulldogs got off to a rough start with 2 TO's in the 1st Quarter, and fell behind the Deer 17-0 early. But, they began to settle down and play Dawg football from the 2nd Quarter on, and outscored the Deer 35-14 over that span. The OL began to open huge holes, and Ruffin (LB/RB) supplemented Simon (RB) in the run game. The Dawgs combined for 427 yards rushing at 8.5 ypc. Simon had 34 carries for 297 yards. Saenz (QB) had a solid game with 1 TD throw, and made some excellent progression completions. His experience showed, and he took what was there instead of forcing the ball. La Porte didn't need to pass much with the rushing attack. But, were successful when they attempted. Defensively, they have some work to do on edge containment and tackling. But, the new DC (who just came onboard in June) had them pretty well prepared, and they made good adjustments to slow the Deer after the initial jitters, only giving up 7 points after halftime. The secondary played better than expected. But, Kingwood will test them. They will have to be 'on their toes' against Hinson and the Mustangs. La Porte will need to refocus after their heated rivalry game. Kingwood looks to be a very tough group again in 2025.

LP WR Peyton Smith (6’-2”, 175 C/O 2028) has been offered by Nebraska.

Some photos taken at the Border Battle. Looks like there were people even standing on the deck of the Legacy Building, so the crowd was definitely overflow with the bands & drill teams sitting on the track. Haven't heard an exact attendance number yet. But, it was well over seating capacity. [Hidden Content]

KP QB (Pavlatos-Soph) torched Montgomery. Friendswood is big again. I really thought Crosby would beat Dayton this year after hearing how well their QB looked in the scrimmage against Lee. From first game impressions, looks like KP will have something to say about the PO spots. Congrats to Kempner & Pasadena on their Week 1 wins!

NS, Katy, Westlake, Vandegrift, and Highland Park at least some of the highly regarded teams entering the season all losing Game 1. Interesting. Desoto getting shellacked by Creekside, Ga. 70-28.
