1. Well, they might want to be glad it was Gabe that was the admin in question.  'Cause if it would have been me, he WOULD have gotten the permanent heave ho.  I'll dismiss Tigervoice's posts because he comes up here with his tongue so firmly implanted in his cheek that he has to have it surgically detached on at least three occasions.  But to others there are rules to be followed.  Each and everyone of you, just like I did when I joined the site, read them and agreed to abide by them.  As staff members, we are charged by the site owner with enforcing those.  True, we don't catch all of them, but when we see them we must enforce them and that is all Gabe was doing by speaking up.  You can call it "power tripping" if you want, it doesn't matter to me. And in this case, it is one that we do hold particularly close to the heart.  These coaches and players are a big part of this community.  Whether you like them or not, if you have a child involved in high school athletics, these men (and women) are a guiding force in your child's life.  I certainly don't envy men and women whose worth is decided on how a bunch of 15-18 years perform on, at most, 20 days out of the year.  Believe me, they know the shortcomings of there particular programs and those shortcomings bother them a heck of a lot more than they bother any of us, believe me.  We as a site, who ask these coaches for help without ever really offering them anything but a "please" and a "thank you," feel that the least that we can do is to minimize the angst that they have to face when frequenting this board....and yes they do. Now, I can understand feeling frustration when the school you support is falling short and you want to express frustration.  Boards like these caters to exactly that.  However, there are limits that should be respected.  And when new coaches, before they even step on the field, are criticized simply because they have a beef with the school administrations....and I am not just talking about Coach Smalley......I saw it with the hiring of Kane Harris at Hamshire-Fannett, Marty Murr at Anahuac and Chris Babin at Deweyville....that is just flat out wrong, and it will not be tolerated.  Sorry if that offends. Todd Broussard Administrator SETXsports.com PS For anyone who thinks Gabe is a "new administrator" he has been in that role even longer than I have.
 2. Cowboys, I bow to your insight 'cause I know I didn't see it coming!
 3.

In that case I can count Hebert/Ozen together on the hoops count....
No. Two entirely different schools. PA High School and Jefferson HS are the same because PA High School just changed names, never shut down or combined schools...Also the case with PN HS and PNG HS. No merger occurred, just added the other city that had been going there all along.
In fact, the UIL state archive now lists the teams of 1953-55 "Port Neches-Groves"
 4. A lot of this is being driven by the Texas Association of Non-Public Schools as they are not real happy with the head guy over a TAPPS, Edd Burleson.  They were very unhappy not only of the treatment of the Beren Academy basketball team during the TAPPS playoffs and even more unhappy about some of the public statements he made while "handling" the situation.  Neither the SPC or the TCAL would be able to handle a massive shift from TAPPS to their leagues and the TANPS knows that.  They know that the only entity that would is the UIL.  Honestly, I think this is just a bit of a pressure play by TANPS to get TAPPS to conform to it's wishes.  Because if they think TAPPS is unyielding, they haven't seen anything yet!
 5.
I don't see that flying....I mean how would you justify schools with 75 kids playing schools with 400 in football? They would have to have more than one classification...I don't think they would do it.
I initially had that question as well and I see it going like this (if there indeed ever comes to pass a UIL Private School Division).  You'll have a UIL "public school division" with the different classes that it has now and a UIL "private school division" that will be broken down into the different classes much like TAPPS is now, with the SPC and TCAL schools blended in.
 6. Here is a list of state championships (but not all appearances) that I put together for a previous thread:
LIST OF HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL STATE CHAMPIONS

School (City)    Titles    Years (Organization and Class)

Beaumont Kelly Catholic High School (Beaumont)    5    1979 (TCIL), 1987 (TCIL) 1992 (TCIL), 1993 (TCIL)*, 1998 (TAPPS DI)

Hebert High School (Beaumont)    3    1959 (PVIL 3A), 1966 (PVIL 4A), 1976 (UIL 3A)

Lincoln High School (Port Arthur)    3    1949 (PVIL 2A)*, 1953 (PVIL 3A), 1955 (PVIL 3A)

Newton High School (Newton)    3    1974 (UIL 2A), 1998 (UIL 3A, DII), 2005 (UIL 2A, DI)

Port Neches-Groves High School (Port Neches)    3    1953 (UIL 3A), 1955 (UIL 3A), 1975 (UIL 4A)

Barbers Hill High School (Mont Belvieu)    2    1971 (UIL 1A)*, 1976 (UIL 1A)

Burkeville High School (Burkeville)    2    1986 (UIL 1A), 2001 (UIL 1A)

Carver High School (Baytown)    2    1958 (PVIL 2A), 1961 (PVIL 3A)

Corrigan-Camden High School (Corrigan)    2    1988 (UIL 2A), 2002 (UIL 2A, DI)

Groveton High School (Groveton)    2    1989 (UIL 2A), 1990 (UIL 2A)

Port Arthur High School (Port Arthur)    2    1929 (UIL)*, 1944 (UIL)

Wallace High School (Orange)    2    1949 (PVIL 1A), 1954 (PVIL 2A)

West Orange-Stark High School (West Orange)    2    1986 (UIL 4A), 1987 (UIL 4A)

Bishop Byrne High School (Port Arthur)    1    1952 (TCIL)

Bridge City High School (Bridge City)    1    1966 (UIL 3A)

Dunbar High School (Livingston)    1    1958 (PVIL 1A)

French High School (Beaumont)    1    1984 (UIL 5A)*

Hull-Daisetta High School (Daisetta)    1    1979 (UIL 1A)

Nederland High School (Nederland)    1    1957 (UIL 3A)

Rowe High School (Jasper)    1    1967 (PVIL 2A)

St. Anthony's High School (Beaumont)    1    1955 (TCIL)

San Augustine High School (San Augustine)    1    2003 (UIL 2A, DI)

West Brook High School (Beaumont)    1    1982 (UIL 5A)

*-Co-Champion UIL - University Interscholastic League PVIL - Prairie View Interscholastic League TCIL - Texas Catholic Interscholastic League TAPPS - Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools
7. Port Neches-Groves appeared in the state title game 3 times as Port Neches High (1953, 1954, 1955) and 3 under its current name (1975, 1977, 1999).
 8. The answer to your question is: it depends. 1) If you go strictly by the names listed in the multiple choices: The answer is a tie between West Orange-Stark (1986, 1987, 1988, 2000) and Newton (1974, 1998, 2004, 2005) with 4 state title appearances; 2) If you are talking about schools that were the same school but underwent a name change: The answer is Port Arthur Jefferson with 5.  While PA Jefferson made the state championship game only once (1980), the same school, under the name Port Arthur High, advanced to the state championship game 4 times (1928 1929, 1944, 1957).
 9.
ok, but what does that accomplish?  Do you think they will move the large 5A teams into 6A and the smaller 5A teams  will stay 5A after the next realignment and trickle down from there now that they have six classifications? Or this is just something to bring the 6-man teams under the same umbrella?
From what I have heard the latter.  No plans to break 11 man into 6 classifications.  5A teams will be 6A, 4A teams 5A and so on.
 10.
just wanted to say as an LC-M alumni from yeeeeeeaaaaaaaarrrrrrrsssssssss back. WOS SUX only because it hasn't been said yet!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D 8)
You funny.  But not as funny as this: Series Record: WO-S 23, LC-M 3.
 11.
more watering down of the playoffs. ::) .  The question will be , what will they do with the attendance numbers for 6A and down?
Actually my understanding is that there will be no change in the classifications but that 1A, instead of being the smallest of the 11 man schools, will now be the designation for 6 man if the decide on a "6A."
 12. First, let's be careful of talking about how things went down with anything other than first hand knowledge of the process.  I say that as I was contacted by one of the applicants, who has read this thread and pointed to a few inaccuracies in the account of how the interviews were handled. Second, let's be sure that we accurately direct our ire.  Although it appears to me that jacf's beef is with how the board handled things (if, indeed the information he received on how they handled things was correct).  And if that is the case, I, for one, am hard pressed to be real critical of someone given my pointed criticisms of some of the members of the search committee when the WO-S job came vacant last year.  For that matter, I can't fault with those who feel that it was the actions of the board and/or administration that hastened the departure of Brian Huckabay. However, there is a point that the ire over the process appears to be directed at the new coach, in this case, Coach Smalley, whose only "crime" in the process was to believe that he is the best person to lead the Orangefield athletic football department and team going forward and proving the based upon the criteria set out by the OFISD and the seach committee. There are good men within the OFISD who applied for the job at OF, who I hope can see their way to remain.  That being said, there is no way that it can be said that the committee's decision to tap Josh Smalley as the next AD/HC at Orangefield was a wrong one.  He is someone who was popular amongst the athletes when he was there only a few years ago and it looks like his family is firmly entrenched in the Bobcat community already.  He developed a successful offense at Bridge City under Cris Stump and looks to be ready to keep Orangefield in the running for a playoff spot out of 21-3A. All I am saying, is just be careful.
 13.
My neighbor and former coach along side Price at BH, DeWayne Nunez, is leaving BH to go coach at CE King with Price.  Once Gage was hired Nunez was moved to head track coach but now looks like he'll be a CE King coach along side Jones and Price.
Coach Nunez will be King's offensive coordinator.
 14. The schedule I had doesn't indicate the date of Dayton's homecoming game.
 15. Whoa!  And I thought the carousel was finally closed last night.
 16. That would mean that in all but the 3 4A districts and 10-2A-I, a team does not even have to finish in the top half of district to make the playoffs.
 17. It is apparently a possibility.  I just saw this tweet from a Dallas Morning News writer which was retweeted by Chris Lyke of texashsfootball.com: "Big for 3A D1 football: UIL proposal adds 4th playoff team in 3A, 2A in all sports. Moves to Legis. council in Oct."

 19.
Coach Dubois ( offensive coordinator from Vidor been there ten plus years) may be making a move to the OF head coaching job.
I think Newcastle was referring to soccer coaches on the move.
 20.

You might recall that they came VERY close to it a couple of months back.
The lemonade stand regulations?
Remember the now abandoned attempt to regulate the work that kids did on farms?
 21. Coach Smalley is a great hire.  He is a guy who is familiar with and was very popular in the Orangefield community while he was there before.  If there is anyone that can increase the participation in OF athletics, as some folks have indicated is a necessity, then this is your guy.
