1. Central beat Livingston the first time they played.
2. I'm too honest to be President.
3. Because some men have style lol I like the way the new uniforms look, but it doesn't mean I have to be 100% smiles over it replacing the Purple and White. Ashley, I can see the baseball uniforms being gray on the road. Gray uniforms is just a huge part of baseball. I do remember those gray basketball uniforms. I just felt like for me growing up the purple and white symbolized PNG just at the Star did the Cowboys (obviously on a much smaller level...I hate the Cowboys btw...Oilers fan). I can't imagine a Cowboys or WOS helmet with a different decal. For me growing up and everyone else in my world the purple and white was the same thing. I have actually had a few people who did not grow up in PNG nor ever work there ask me, "what's the deal with the gray?" Maybe it was used in football back before I started paying attention in 1988-89. I don't know.
4. That photo isn't showing up. I know you are from Groves as well. Is the entire uniform black and gray or just used as accents? I guess we will all miss the era's in which we grew up in if it was a good one... The era in which I grew up was a good one for sure.
5. I am Being in this profession for 11 years I have seen AD's at numerous schools come in and dismiss a lot of the traditions of that school. It doesn't enrage me, but it does make me wonder, "why do that?" Being a native of Groves, it just doesn't seem right to have any color than Purple or White be a dominate color. Can you imagine the Indian Spirit with gray and white or gray and purple instead of purple and white? I remember learning how to play the fight song on the recorder in 5th grade. It was the first thing we learned how to play and it was a test grade. That song talks about the purple and white, not the purple and gray. I understand wanting to put your own stamp on a program that immolates who you are, but not at the sake of offending the traditions of a school/program. I have added things to programs that I have worked in hopes to build a program around the five pillars that I believe in, but I have always kept any tradition that belonged to a school. To many the gray may not be a big deal, but to a lot of the community it is. I no longer live in the school district and very rarely get to catch a game. However, I do miss seeing the purple on purple and white on white when I do get to watch one. I don't know coach personally and always hear good things about him. I'm just no fan of the gray even though it does look good in the color scheme department.
6. Coach Elliott is a friend of mine. I was very happy that she ended up applying for this job. Bob Hope, you made a great hire!!!
7. Two professional golfers that grew up playing on The Patch. One has made a very good living thus far and another on his way. Maybe Groves should open it back up!!!
8. Partial results here: [Hidden Content]
9. So if Harmony Science would have appealed and lost, would they not have been able to withdraw from being part of UIL? If they could withdraw afterwards, why wouldn't they just wait and see if their appeal was denied before withdrawing?
10. That belief is a bit interesting because they are already assigned to District 24-4A this year for track and field. However, I do hope the appeal is approved. It would be the best decision for the kids involved in the current situation. I also understand that if you move them down to 2A it only takes a few transfers and they are immediately a powerhouse.
11. What is #5's name? Is there2 or 3 freshman?
12. Stopped by on my way home to watch for a little bit. Which numbers are the freshmen? Very impressed with number 5.
13. Didn't Cleveland make it to the Regional tournament and return almost everyone?
14. As much as I hate to say this, the Astros are probably done. Even though their remaining six games are against bad teams, they are all on the road and the Astros are awful on the road. I say 3-3 at best and that's not going to get it done. I hope I am wrong and they go 6-0 or 5-1. If they can do one of those two, they might win the division.
15. KOGT reported that she played tonight against Kirbyville.
16. KOGT says 4 games. Anyone know which is correct?
17. H-F won 3rd, Ozen 4th. Consolation went to Bay City. Hardin won the Silver bracket with Central runner-up. H-J won the Friendship bracket and Silsbee runner-up in the Friendship bracket.
18. Well, that does depend on whether or not you are doing a 3-step or 4-step approach :)
19. Great job to everyone on the list. I'm not sure who makes the list or how many make the list, but two of the best all around track athletes (and both made it to state) in the area didn't make the team. Just wanted to recognize Alexis Henry from BC and Becca DeLord from HF. Both are great athletes in field events and running.
20. I thought Dillon Taylor was on that team?
21. He ran a 2:02 (I think) his Freshman year. He has been at Silsee. Not sure when he moved to Warren. He's a very good runner.
22. I usually don't ever post anything on here unless it is reporting scores or meet results, but I just want to share what has come out of the girls side the 7 years I have been teaching/coaching (6 at HF). I know a lot of people think HF is in shambles and ruins, but we have been very successful and we have always been the smallest or 2nd smallest in the district in my six years here. Here we go: Cross Country: District Champs the past two years (Regionals every year from what I understand. Not sure about my first year here). Had a runner go to state in 2010. Volleyball: Playoffs 5 of 7 years. Only one and done once out of those 5. Had one team go to the Regional Finals. We have had several girls play in the TGCA All-Star game and many be voted to TGCA All-State. Basketball: Playoffs 3 of the past 5 years. We have had one girl be voted onto the TGCA All-Star team. Soccer: Playoffs 2 of the past 4 years playing in a 4A district with only one other 3A school. Track: District Champions 4 out of 7 years and 2 of the past 3. We have an athlete going to state this year. She was voted TGCA All-State last year and we had another athlete get voted onto the TGCA All-Star team but she could not accept because she was also on Basketball. Hopefully we can keep winning in the sports we have been and get some of those other sports up so we can be successful in ALL sports. The most important thing...HF is a tremendous Academic school and is 2nd to only HJ in their scores in this area. It is a great school district.
23. I've been looking through our records and I can't find anything. The records have some gaps in the late 90's. Kim Owen in 85/86, Terre Johnson in 85, Falesha Brown in the mid 90's, and Tamara Spikes in the late 90's all ran times that were fast enough to make it. I just don't know if they ran those times at the right time. I know you were in school around Brown and Spikes...any idea if they made it?
24. The records I have show Anglia Munson going to state in Shot and Disc in 2000. She placed 2nd in shot and 8th in disc.
25. Jeff was my wife's dad. Very familiar with the Peveto legacy at OF. Yeah, that Ledoux kid went on to run the 400mH at Lamar I believe. He was a couple of years before my time.
