1.
Nederland beat Friendswood in the first game today. They had a rough one against Pearland in the second game and lost 11-2. Maybe scapegoat can give us some details later.
Nearly every team has a few mis-steps during the early parts of the season (especially during tournaments when pitching and rest is limited). But despite the rough outing against Pearland, it sounds like the Dogs are exceeding everyone's early expectations and very well may be the top team in 20-4A once again. On a side note, is Sanderson getting any looks from the next level? With a fastball touching 90 it shouldn't be long before they come knocking...
 2. No more weekly rankings? No updated final scores and team records on the team schedules tab? No updated weekly schedules? No player of the week from setxsports.com hall of famers like adminbaberuth? :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
 3. After one week 20-4A looks like it may play out a bit different than expected. Nederland looks better than expected (not that they looked bad from the start) going 4-0 in their tournament and showing plenty of offense. Seems that their pre-season drama is well behind them and they are on track for a district title run. PNG also seems to be on the right track despite their early drama. I fully expect them to continue churning out victories and as long as Ashworth can rebound from his less than stellar outing last week (and he will), this team will be fine. LCM also sounds like they will fare well this season as expect. I didn't get any specs on how their staff did individually but if Humphreys and Swan can do work. This is easily a top 3 team. Vidor had the most surprising performance this past week. Losing to a Westbrook team who was missing players, then going 2-2 in their own tournament. A 2-3 start is not what the Pirates were hoping for and more importantly if they can't improve their offense drastically, this could be another disappointing ending. Lumberton is hard to get a handle on because of their schedule. But a loss to Coldspring does not look too good on their résumé. However I expect them to compete for the 4th spot with Vidor, Livingston, and possibly Ozen Livingston will compete for the 4th spot if Vidor doesn't improve or if one of the big 3 fall into a slump (which is unlikely) Ozen, may compete for the 4th spot if they can avoid slipups against Lumberton, Livingston, and Central. Central...

Vidor has 9 good one this seasons, I will give the top 4 , Johnboy Smith- a great athelete, 86+fb, smart pitcher( intimidating on the bump). Nick Foshee. 85+ fb, 6,4" maybe 5", add the Bump, it looks the ball is coming from the center feild light pole, Smart Baseball player. Colby Schiralla, "Lights Out", he may never see the bump because his catching is so good. Nicks, not so little brother, Eric (Big Easy) Foshee, God given talent we all dream about, he is a freak. 88+ and im being conservative. And, yes And, Vidor has 5 others that can pitch as well. 9 Pitchers. Thats my count. I feel confident any of those 9 can win a game, I can't think of a season that Vidor had so much pitching. Could be the Year of the Pirates, cause you know Coach Green likes pitching.
GREEN - REX- GRAY..Vidors biggest weapons with the talent they have year end year out....Sounds like Vidor has a lil something this year..
then why can't they win a first round playoff series w all this talent they have year in and year out?  Coaching?
I wouldn't pin their inability to win playoff games solely on coaching. I'm sure all three of those guys will take some of the blame for the team not getting it done in the postseason but thats what competitors do, take responsibility and dont deflect. However, I believe coaching has played a very minimal role in not making it to the next round. In two of the five years the Pirates made the playoffs, they played a best of three series and in both of those years they lost in the third game. Sometimes the ball just doesn't fall for you and sometimes you're just outplayed or outmatched. These teams in the past have relied heavily on very good defense, throwing strikes, and not beating themselves. With the exception of Maxwell in 2011, I cant remember the last time (if ever) Vidor had even one guy throwing 88+, much less two, and they surely have not had 5-6 guys throwing 84+ on the same squad. The Pirates have historically struggled to push runs across the plate and have had a hard time winning high scoring affairs against the better teams in the district. I point this out to say that this is the first year the Pirates have had two of the best five pitchers in the district in Smith and Foshee and therefore this team should be better situated to keep opponents' runs totals down, thus keeping them in more games. IMO if the Pirates offense is better than average (unlike last year) and they are able to carry it into the playoffs, this team will be playing past the first weekend. And then the coaching staff will deserve their due credit, just as they have received their share (or more) of criticism over the past few years.
 8. Come on now, there are too many setxsportsters from Lumberton, Ozen, and Central to not have any responses from these schools. How are these teams looking through three-four practices?
 9. How are the four "less talked about" teams in 20-4A looking this year? What should we expect from these teams and what players should we expect to make big impacts for each team?
 10.
Duplant apparently not 20-4A
Just read that... interesting
 11. 20-4A: Ashworth - Best Pitcher (would take him in single game above all others) Foshee - Most Potential (6'3" junior with 88+ arm and in 3rd year of varsity ball) Chambers / White - Best LHP's (more size and velocity from White but Chambers defines crafty) Humphrey / J. Smith - Most Intimidating Pitchers (both are at least 6'3" 210 and can run it up near 90) Lantrip & Sanderson also deserve to be mentioned here, just not sure where they fit in
 12. Who are the pre-season's top pitchers for this upcoming season and what makes those pitchers among the area's elite? (Lets keep the "estimated velocity" in check and limit the exaggerations please)  :D
 13. 1. (a) PNG - With Ashworth on the mound the Indians will be as difficult a team to beat as any, as he is a sure-fire D-1 player and among the top 3 pitchers in the district. What puts the Purple & White on the top of the list for me is I believe they will avoid the major mishaps unlike the recent past and will take care of the games they should win. 1. (b) Vidor - With arguably the best 1-2 punch on the bump with Smith and Foshee (both are big kids and 88+ no exaggeration necessary), Vidor should be able to limit opponents offensive production from start to finish. However, their inability to score runs over the past several years has prevented them from taking the next step by winning a district title and advancing past the first round of the playoffs. In my opinion, if the pitching lives up to expectations this team will be the last one standing of all the 20-4A teams in 2013. 1. (c) Nederland - Not considering in the fact that he missed all of last year and I'm simply out of the loop on his personal situation over the past year (I don't need to be), Duplant is the best individual talent in the district and possibly the entire area. If he can regain his 2011 athletic performance and can be supported by a Bulldog team and community that has produced better results than any 20-4A team over the past 5 years, a very strong season is in store for Big Ned. 1. (d) LCM - Never, ever, underestimate the Battlin' Bears Baseball team. With several returning starters including Swan, Humphrey, and Richards, the best coach in SETX - S. Griff - will find a way to compete for the district title as he always does. Others: Ozen has one of the best starting pitchers (probably the first or second best LHP) in Chambers and Crawford is among the best defensive outfileders in SETX. They probably will fall short of the postseason but will surely give every team a run for their money and with Chambers on the mound for every-other-game I predict he notches wins against at least three of the top four teams this season. Lumberton has built from the ground up over the past two seasons by sticking with young players at the varsity level. Most of those players are now juniors and seniors and hungry to get the terrible taste of a rough 2012 season out of their mouth. If they can get consistency from White and Cambell on the mound and their new Head Coach can help them find some offense (they were the second lowest scoring team last year) this team will shock some teams and may find themselves in the mix come the last few games of district play. When Livingston has Lantrip on the mound they will be a force to be reckoned with. But frankly, I just dont have much information about them. Central.. I'm rooting for you guys!
 14. Congrats to Ozen, nice win. The Panthers are much better than their record indicates as they have been a tough opponent in nearly every district game this year. I hope this is something they can build on next year when they attempt to find a spot in the post-season. Plenty of returners from this years team next season.
Nederland has scored 1 run in their last 3 games.  They need to figure something out on te offensive end of they want to do anything in the playoffs.
Never would have predicted this kind of year for Nederland....Such a talented group of kids and no leader.....Hope they get that batting lineup figured out....Let's go Bulldogs....
I see what your saying about not expecting Ned to have the record they do at this point in district but I for one think it has less to do about Ned and more to do about Livingston. Fact of the matter is that Livingston is a top team this year, no questions asked. They have allowed 15 RUNS in district 20-4A so far through 10 games. I have no idea why people are not talking about this more. I'm not trying to call you out tjcfan08; Im just trying to make a point that Livingston is not getting the love the deserve and that is especially true of their pitching staff.
