The #5 ranked Silsbee Tigers will take on the Athens Hornets in a class 3A Region III semifinal at Johnson Coliseum on the campus of Sam Houston State University, TONIGHT 6:15pm. Silsbee (27-7) made their way to the regional tourney by defeating Splendora 71-56, Brookshire-Royal 69-57 and then Coldspring 57-51. Athens (26-12) earned their way to Huntsville with wins over Huntington 71-49, Mexia 72-50 and Fairfield 48-42 OT. Not very big (though they do have a couple of '6"3 players) but love to push it up tempo. They press and get majority of their points in transition. Play man defense. Fairfield slowed them down and got them to play their style game and almost pulled off the upset. This will be a barn burner but I do not think Athens has seen the type of speed that Silsbee will display. Athens has been used to being the quicker, speedier team and that will not be the case Friday night. I see Silsbee taking this one in a high scoring affair, 80-73.
