WRONG!!! I was there. Deweyville 1st team scored against Kirbyville 1st team defense. In fact, it only took Deweyville 5 plays to cover the 65 yards to score. It was the first 5 plays of offense for Deweyville's first team, first 5 plays of defense for Kirbyville's 1st team. -

Best Defense In SETX This Year

I wouldn't rank them as the best but Silsbee's defense sure impressed me last night. -

Good first scrimmage for all 3 teams, yes Dville scored on Kville and no one scored on Dville 1's but all 3 teams had positives and some mistakes, just a scrimmage. Kville will compete and be in the hunt in their District and HF is much improved over last years team. Good luck to HF and Kville.
Sir, I talked to Lafredrick Ford and he told me that his cousin said they beat both HF and Deweyville. I don't know how true this is though.
I attended this scrimmage. No one "won" this scrimmage.

Here are the stats for each first team offense. This scrimmage had a 12 minute running clock for each offense to run as many plays as they could get in. First 12 minute set: Hamshire-Fannett 1st Team offense vs. Deweyville 1st Team defense HF rushing 10/15 yards passing 1-6- 14 yards total 16 plays/ 29 yards FD 2 3 and outs 3 2nd 12 minute set Kirbyville 1st Team offense vs. Hamshire-Fannett 1st Team defense Kirby rushing 17/107 yards TD passing 1-5- 5 yards total 22 plays/ 112 yards FD 7 3 and outs 0 Kirbyville did reach the HF 11 yard line but failed to score on 4 consecutive plays. Turn over on downs. 3rd 12 minute set: Deweyville 1st Team offense vs. Kirbyville 1st Team defense Dewey rushing 13/63 yards TD passing 0-2 0 yards total 15 plays/ 63 yards FD 3 3 and outs 1 Deweyville went 5 plays and 65 yards scoring on a 38 yard run to start their offensive series. Kirbyville made a few adjustments and slowed down Deweyville the rest of the 12 minute set. I did not keep 2nd team stats. Each team ran their 2nd teams for a 10 minute set. Lightning sent the teams in after that, then I left. If I were to rank each teams offense and defense based on this scrimmage, it would go like this: Offense 1. Kirbyville 2. Deweyville 3. Hamshire-Fannett Defense 1. Deweyville 2. Kirbyville 3. Hamshire-Fannett For what I viewed today, the team that impressed me the most was Deweyville. Good offense and very good defense. Coach Babin and his staff are doing some very good things there. I expect Deweyville to have a good season. Team that disappointed me the most was Hamshire-Fannett. Their offense simply could not move the ball against Deweyville and their defense really never stopped Kirbyville. HF better step it up on both sides if they want to compete for that 3rd playoff spot in 21-3A. As for Kirbyville, offensively they looked okay but it was against a very weak HF defense. Hard to judge how good they really are. Little disappointed in the Wildcat defense giving up that big touchdown drive by Deweyville. Kirbyville did adjust and looked better after that. All three teams obviously need more work but I have to say, Deweyville was the most impressive.

Just too good on the defensive side of the ball. I predict that WO-S will have a minimum of 6 shut outs this season and quite honestly believe that Silsbee may be the only district team that will possibly get a score against this version of the Chain Gang Defense.
I said that earlier this year on this board and people jumped my butt saying im getting ahead of myself and I didnt know what I was talking about.. im telling you guys this group on defense as a whole is the best to come through WO-S in the past 12 years.. WO-S should and IMO will shut-out all but maybe 2 of their opponets.. Really and truly Nederland was suppose to get shut-out but the back up QB Rutledge threw a fluke pick six off of a deflected pass other then that WO-S would have won by 2td's like I said they would..
Well, if you want to take away Nederland's "fluke" pick six, then you have to take away WO-S's pick six that came off the hands of a Nederland receiver. Then WO-S scores just 1 TD to Nederland's 0 TD's. -

Here are the stats: 1st team offenses Newton rushing 20/74 yards passing 1-4- 5 yards INT total 24 plays/ 79 yards FD 5 TO 1 Penalties 1-5 yards Silsbee rushing 13/98 yards 1 TD passing 6-11- 127 yards 2 TD's total 24 plays/ 225 yards 3 TD's FD 9 TO 0 Penalties 2 -20 yards 2nd team offenses Newton rushing 18/12 yards passing 1-4- 3 yards INT total 22 plays/ 15 yards FD 0 TO 3 Penalties 4-20 yards Silsbee rushing 16/45 yards passing 4-6- 83 yards 1 TD INT total 22 plays/ 128 yards 1 TD FD 5 TO 1 Penalties 1-15 yards Total offense for both teams Newton Silsbee rushing 38/86 yards 29/143 yards 1 TD passing 2-8- 8 yards 2 INT 10-17- 210 yards 3 TD's INT total 46 plays/ 94 yards 46 plays/ 353 yards 4 TD's FD 5 14 TO 4 1 Penalties 5-25 yards 3-35 yards This was a controlled scrimmage entirely. Each 1st team offense ran 12 consecutive plays twice. 2nd team offense ran 12 plays first time and then just 10 plays second time. Statistically, you can see who had the better scrimmage. Silsbee virtually dominated this scrimmage on both sides of the ball. Either Silsbee is much better than I expected them to be or Newton may be overrated. -

I will be there standing along the sidelines taking notes. Will make a complete report of this scrimmage later tonight. Heard it will be a controlled scrimmage for half, then two timed quarters. No kicking game. -

Benefit for former Lamar great James Gulley
AggiesAreWe replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Just got back from Jasper. Was a tremendous turnout for James. Very successful benefit for one of Lamar's best. Spoke with Rod Gulley, current head basketball and assistant football coach at Newton and James nephew. Rod said he personally delivered over 200 plates himself. The BBQ was completely sold out!! Great to see that kind of support for a former Lamar great and I am very proud of the Southeast Texans who showed their support. Thanks to all the volunteers, job well done. BTW, the BBQ was fantastic!!! -
