The story line should be: Big 4A gets schooled by a small 3a. Nederland always talks big but never delivers.
I'm not trying to stir anything up, but Ned's starters did outscore WOS 26-13..
We go through this every year in August. Nah, of course you're not trying to stir up anything.  ::) Jake had the right take on this. Both teams had a good showing and some building blocks to start the season thanks to last night's matchup. Still... ...it was a scrimmage. WO-S did not play their "1st team" against Nederland's 1st team. I know you're looking for a moral victory of sorts to pat yourself on the back as if Nederland "won" something. But, be real. It was a scrimmage. There were no kickoff or punt returns. Special teams are part of the game. WO-S was auditioning two non-starters at QB. The starting tailback, who we expect to have a big season, played defense most of the time. We moved around several players to different positions on defense because we have only two starters back from last year. The guys you saw with white helmets instead of silver ones...at least some of those will be on JV this year. The coaches did not have to prepare a game plan for this. Maybe Nederland played their first team in the first 3 quarters and not in the 4th. Big deal. It doesn't matter. I'm sure Nederland's coaching staff were experimenting with at least a few players, as well. Sum it all up...it was a scrimmage. WO-S had one more point than Nederland. So what. This was an audition for the coaches to evaluate players. A real game would have looked different because of all the items I just listed. Sorry if you feel bad about "losing," but you didn't "lose" anything, and WO-S didn't "win" anything. If WO-S were to play Nederland in a real game, I like WO-S' chances, but we won't get to see that. Both teams had a productive glorified practice last night and we'll never know who would win a real game. I'm content with that. I'm looking forward to more scrimmage work next week against Vidor, then the real thing begins against LC-M. I expect Nederland to win their district. Best wishes to you guys.
Excellent post griff, excellent post.

 3. Topic is NED/WO-S scrimmage.
 4. Former Lamar QB Jeremy Johnson is now at Cougar High (sorry, can't help my self) playing the position of cornerback. JJ is listed on two deep. Hope everything goes well for the young man.
 5. Coldspring/Jasper Scrimmage Jasper  4 TD's Coldspring  0 TD's
 6. Deweyville vs Kirbyville DHS 3 scores (All 1st Team) KHS 2 scores (1 - 1st team & 1 - 2nd team)
 7.
4-1 newton (varsity)
Was told by Silsbee coach 3 of the 4 Newton TD's were against Silsbee 2nd team defense. Also, Silsbee's Reed had great success running the ball in the first series but after that Silsbee coaching staff reigned him in and would not allow him to run. Basically started working on passing game and other run plays, did not want to get Patrick hurt. I was not there, so I really have no opinion on this scrimmage. Just posting what I was told.
 8.
Cleveland's 1st offense scored once on a long pass and second team scored once on a long run. Other than that HJ defense looked solid. HJ did not score. Offense looked good at times but looks like some linemen are struggling with assignments. HJ did move the ball but would then get an offsides call and set them back. Cleveland looked like a solid team. They have a lot of speed. Line looked athletic.
Pretty much agree with this take. Cleveland is athletic but lack in offensive line play (not very big and lack agility) and the QB is not that great. Cleveland's defensive line played well. After getting their feet wet figuring out the HJ offense, Cleveland pretty much shut HJ down the remaining half of the scrimmage. HJ defense looked much improved except for giving up the big play a time or two. But that comes with the territory when you stunt and blitz as much they did. Sometimes you get caught with your pants down. ;) HJ secondary missed some coverages at times, but all in all played well. HJ offense is still a work in progress. Made some nice runs at times but for the most part, was held in check. HJ was tackled for loss several times. What surprised me the most was during the entire scrimmage (1st and 2nd teams) HJ only attempted 2 passes, both from the 2nd team. HJ 1st team never attempted a pass. Looks as though Coach Dubose is really trying to get the Hawks to learn the offense before expanding on it. I believe this is the type offense HJ has needed all along and I think in time will be successful. I saw an improved HJ team scrimmage an athletic but a fundamentally lacking Cleveland team. Cleveland scored twice, HJ did not score and the closest HJ got as the Cleveland 20. BTW, I also did not see a 21-3A district championship team on the field.  ;) HJ has improved and I think has a shot at the 4th playoff spot, but they have a long way to go in regards to winning 21-3A this season.

 11. Well, off to Orangefield then Hardin-Jefferson.
 12. No excuse needed. A scrimmage is a scrimmage, a game is a game. Figured folks west of the Trinity and east of the Neches would know the difference. ;) ::)

Made the state title game last year and return 10 off., 10 def. starters from last season.
With that said why didn't they come out #1?
Not sure. I would have them #1. AP does combine the two divisions in their polls instead of separating them like DCTF and Old Coach.
So realistically Mart is #1 1A Div 1 and Teneha is #1 1A Div 2?
Yep.

 19.
Any update on how the bc/lum scrimmage is going
Just got back. Both teams a little thin on size, particularly Lumberton on the defensive side. Raiders are fairly quick on that side of the ball. Both Manley for Lumberton and Shugart for BC looked decent at times at QB. Shugart hurt Lumberton a couple of times on the zone keeper. Manley never ran the ball. Both teams run games were not up to par, but neither team ran the ball much. Lot's of passing from both teams. Both teams ran every play out of the gun (BC even ran some pistol). BC misses Hunter at RB. BC and Lumberton OL has decent size, but not athletic. Each teams WR looked fair, but several drops. BC's Uzzle plays both ways, slot on offense, MLB on defense. The defenses for both teams are on the small size. A team with a big, athletic offensive line would give these two teams some problems. Both teams linebacking corp are quick and have a good nose for the ball, secondary a bit on the slow side. Each team had 2 INT's, 2 fumble recoveries. For the ones that like to keep up with the scoring, this is how it went: Control scrimmage (set # of plays for each offense) BC 1st Team      2 TD BC 2nd Team    0 TD LUM 1st Team    2 TD LUM 2nd Team  2 TD They did play 1 quarter of "live" football (still no kicking game) Both teams 1st team Offense got inside the 5, but came away with no points. All in all a good scrimmage. Both teams seemed to work mostly on their passing game.
 20. Headed out to the Bridge City/Lumberton scrimmage. Varsity at 8am. We will see who is awake this morning. ;)

 22.
The back ups will be playing against OF not HD. Your getting the kids that will only play in blow outs.
Yes, it's my understanding that HD varsity to scrimmage Vidor JV. OF varsity (1st and 2nd teams) to scrimmage Vidor varsity (1st and 2nd teams). The handful of Vidor "varsity" players that may scrimmage with the JV against HD would be considered 3rd on the depth chart.
