1.
Or High Island decided to go somewhere else for officials!
;)
2. [Hidden Content] Problem is, the district 11-3A committee has disqualified Prime Prep from participating in any district game in all sports. Saw this coming from the start.
3. In the case of Silsbee High School, it would either be James Hunter or Artie Shankle. My vote would probably be Shankle since he was all district in football, basketball, baseball and district track champion in some events. There is an argument for Hunter who was all state in football, helped lead his basketball team(was all district as well) to the state tourney (so did Shankle) and was a great track star in multiple events. Hunter went on to Grambling to become an All-American and play 8 seasons in the NFL. Also of note, Desmond Doss is still the only athlete in school history to be district MVP in both football and basketball. He accomplished this back in the '04-'05 season, Silsbee's first as a 3A school.
4.
Not I man! Don't camp out for kicks no more. Some guys broke into GreensPoint Mall last night thru the roof and tried to steal 45 pair. If you are a shoe collector like me, there some websites that release these shoes a few months earlier. I always purchase any pair of Jordans I want this way. You may pay a extra 80-100 but it's better than getting up at 3am to go stand in line or try calling in to Eastbay to get them.
It's better not to purchase them at all. ::) $315 sneakers? No thank you.
5. Football season is here. What has been done and what needs to be done for us to be ready?
6.
PNG?
Not best.
7. Tiger Stadium does not need a "jumbotron". Frivolous. Rather see that money spent on necessary needs. Besides, if you get a "jumbotron", you would want to use it to it's maximum capabilities and that would involve having a minimum of 3-5 people operating it, maybe more. Take it from me (a person that is in the press box at every home game), Silsbee has trouble getting someone to run the scoreboard on a regular basis and also there is really no room in the press box for a crew to run the "tron". Turf? Yes. Jumbotron? NO!!
8.
I would think this is a yearly thing with Chambers county I know BH, EC and Anahuac have all been in the playoffs. ( insert BH one and done joke here ----->)
It's not a yearly thing. Anahuac did not make the playoffs last year.
9.
I will make a presence this Friday at the scrimmage in Dayton.
The scrimmage is Thursday. ::)
10.
Was told at our meeting last night that due to lack of funds High Island ISD has cancelled all athletic programs.
High Island did scrimmage Orange Community Christian last Saturday. If they were going to cancel all athletics, why even start practicing football and play a scrimmage?
11. Ah, an actual game. Worthy of a prediction. ;) ;D Vidor        36 Sante Fe  13
12.
Aggie, is Ozen on Silver's preseason schedule this upcoming season? IF so what gym?
If you are meaning Sigler, I was told that Silsbee will be playing Ozen at Ozen the week after the Fred Williams Classic.
13. I am speaking of the press box.
14. Still do not see how Dayton ISD is getting away with not having an elevator on the home side. I guess the right person hasn't filed a complaint yet. That home side is out of state compliance with the handicap laws.
15. Tweet from BE's David Henry: Blinn College will scrimmage Louisiana College at Durley stadium on the West Brook campus Thursday, August 23rd @ 3:30 pm. Think I'll go by and check this out on my way to Winnie for Silsbee's scrimmage with East Chambers. Gives me a chance to see a former Tiger, Jeremy Johnson, perform with his new team.
16. I could care less about a jumbotron. Turf would be nice particularly how the field conditions at Tiger Stadium has been over the past few years. It gives you a lot of options, playoff games, etc. Tiger Stadium field condition is very good, did a lot of work on it this past year. But one monsoon and a game played in it would destroy it for another year. Silsbee was to get turf a few years ago. Had a cost study done and had a company come out and measure for turf. But then some other financial issues came up in the district and it had to be shelved for the time being. Now just waiting on a rich donor to buy it for us. ;)
17.
What happens when Silsbee wins a few playoff FB games? Will they have enough to suit up a varsity basketball squad?
They will probably pull up a few 9th and 10th grade players to fill those games.
18. When I attended Silsbee's football scrimmage against Newton last Friday night, I was amazed at how many of Silsbee's varsity basketball players were playing football. Eight of the 10 returning varsity players are playing football with 6 playing significant roles: Reed (starting QB) Holmes (starting WR) Elam (starting CB) Jackson (starting WR) Barnes (WR) Scott (WR/RB) Also, several of the potential players to fill out the varsity roster are playing football. Looks as though Dobbins and Wilson will be the only varsity players to be basketball only. Which brings me to this question. I am curious to know how many "basketball only" players will the other 21-3A teams have on their varsity squads? If you know, please post. side note: Jontell Jones, the young man who transferred to Silsbee from Irving McArthur last year and had to play JV, has moved back to Irving and will finish his senior year back at McArthur. I want to wish Jontell all the best. He is a good kid and fantastic player.
19. I believe Grad merged his scrimmage thread with my thread of the news article.
