A lot of these scores just highlight the watered down impact of two divisions. Liberty Hill getting smoked by 30 in the state finals and Kountze winning by almost 40 is insane. Hey but more people got a trophy and get to claim they went to "state"

BH scored 3 points in the 3rd qtr on 3 free throws and in the 4th didnt score their first fg until 2 min left in the game. Hit two 3s in a row within 6 seconds in the last 20 seconds for a total of 11 points in the second half. Liberty Hill didnt look great themselves. Hard to believe this was a state semifinal matchup.

it kinda depends on the situation. in some cases it works out that way, and in some cases you end up with first round matchups that feel like they should be regional finals matchups. Some of that also has to do with the weakness of the region in general. One thing is for sure, none of these kids will complain if they make it to state, and it's not so watered down that they shouldn't be proud of their accomplishments. Any team that can win 6 straight playoff games deserves to be recognized. Sometimes you get a lucky road to state, and sometimes you face a gauntlet. Rudder taking out Bastrop was certainly a fortunate break for BH. Also not really sure what the issue with the head coach "crowing" about three in a row considering they went the last two years against tougher competition and not skipping a round.
My point was he was quick to pat himself on the back leaving out the fact he skipped a round and faced less than stellar competition. I get you can only play who is on the schedule, my beef is with UIL. You moved up some of the best 5A teams and then then you split the leftovers into two. But even last year was weak too, hasn't been a really good region 3 5A team in a few years. The days of the really good Hardin Jefferson and Beaumont United's state team are long gone.
-
So the 4th place team out of their district with 15-11 and 7-5 district record in Rudder is who BH has to play to win regionals? Unreal how thin the split divisions have made 5A. SMH

I would like to try to get to a game at Bulldog Centre one day. Don’t care who is playing really. (Although, a decent matchup would be nice.)
I’ve seen pics & seen outside. Been told it’s as nice as many college venues. It looks nice from the pics I’ve seen.
That place is first class, not sure how they pulled the funds to build it but its a better arena than Lee College. I am shocked you have not been there. LaPorte also fully funds and staffs LPsportsnet which streams all home games to YouTube and logs them. It looks like a Espn broadcast, it is very well done. Nobody can match the facilities and the streaming capability that LaPorte has, it is very well done.

Pretty sure a lot of coaches wanted this… not necessarily the UIL
Of course they do, it makes it a whole lot easier. BH coach already crowing about going to regional semifinals 3 years in a row but left out the fact he got to skip an entire round this year and faced much weaker competition.

Confused me when I first saw it as I don’t keep up with basketball as much as football, baseball & softball. Looked at the bracket & said ‘what the?’
Glad the girls are still playing though. Another District Championship for LP as well. Wouldn’t have any issues with BH & LP both getting SC’s. Would actually be kinda’ neat. 😀
I think it was just a few years ago BH vs LP was a first round playoff matchup now both in regional finals because they are two of the only decent programs in 5A region 3 that got split by D1 and D2. The Beaumont United team from that same year would run every team in this years region out of the gym by 30 plus.

I know they’re not in the area covered by SETX for basketball, but as the only close team in 5AD1-1 still in the PO’s, I thought I’d go ahead & post.

Keep forgetting about D1 vs D2. What a joke, totally waters down the playoffs...in 5A especially where there is only a few decent teams in the entire region combined. Skipping a round to boot to get to semifinals. Sad

I’m so glad we don’t have to drive over an hour to half of our district games anymore!
Closer and a weaker district it looks like. Pasadena might have actually has the best record out of anyone last year in this new district?

Not exactly, but 2A in the late 70’s early 80’s. 3A late 80’s the 4A early 2000’s then 5A 2010 ish.
Shoot I remember back in the mid 90s kids that couldn't make it at 5A Baytown Sterling would transfer to BH to be able to play. One ended up being all-state in 3A I think in football and baseball but couldnt crack the lineup at Sterling. My have things changed. This was during the 5A district that had Lee, North Shore, Sterling, Central, West Brook, PAJ, PNG.

I think the RS from BH was the best RS in the district and could have gotten Newcomer.
I thought she should have gotten offensive POY and newcomer as a floor.

I agree with what you’re saying about choosing the 1st team and then picking the superlatives from that. The thing is they wouldn’t get the superlatives they did if they did that. Everyone who watched this district knows exactly who the best at each of those positions were this season. Probably going to ruffle some feathers but it’s the truth.
Give MVP and coach of the year to the top team. The rest should be based on actual individual performances not their team’s record. Then this all looks a lot different is all I’m saying.Ok so it was done your way, what does your team look like? Do you not think the RS for BH deserved to get a superlative whether it be newcomer or offensive? If it was based on team records I don't think that would be the case.

BH falls in the Regional Finals to Fulshear 3-0. Fulshear has an incredible team good luck to them at State. BH had a phenomenal season great job ladies!
Elite 8 out of 128 that started in the playoffs is really good and BH had the toughest road to get there as well.
Yesterday BH had its chances, had leads of 24-22 in set 2 and 19-14 in set 3. Every point matters. Have to wonder how much the quick turnaround from Friday to Sat game impacted the game.

BH fans certainly did just that. Its was a fun night. BH won pretty easily in game one, then FW dug in and played very hard, pushing game 2 to extra points before BH closed it out. In game 3 FW led mid game but BH rallied and pulled away at the end. Great fan support for BH. Great effort by both teams. FW repped themselves very well.
That they did, that was a great environment. Packed house, football boys and student section showed up, a lot of the community outside of the normal VB group which was awesome. Couldnt ask for a better environment or host.
The turning point in that game was BH holding on to set 2, lost that and its a different ballgame. That was huge to go from up 24-22 to down 24-25 to winning 27-25.

BH QB needs to run more. 3rd and 2 late in the game and he could have easily scrambled for 2 instead of throwing two incomplete passes. I don't know if he has been told not to run but he needs to show it to either get those easy yards or to open up throwing lanes. I did not see the RB come back in after the fumble either, was he hurt on that play?
I mean up 21 against a slow time consuming offense the absolute worst thing you can do is give up big play quick scores. The two long runs on btb plays was mind blowing. With that said, if offense punches it in from inside the 5 the game is over at 28-14. A fail on both sides of the ball.
And I thought our kicker was decent, not even a thought of taking the points?

BH needs to fill the stands, community needs to get out and support this team.

BH had to work last night. Of course I love seeing 25-10 type scores, but its good BH had to work some. The district was way too easy. Work sharpens them up for the next round and on. No easy opponents ahead. Go Eagles!
Foster is a really good team, that should not have been a 2nd round matchup while FW and Manvel had cakewalks the the first two rounds. The regions really need to seed the tournament vs this predetermined district matchup crap they do now which is just easy on UIL.
The good news is the Eagles played well and put it way in 4 after being up 2-0. As others have said, that experience should bode well in tight situations. BH has beaten Friendswood back in August so they know they can do it again. It is time to break through the 3rd round barrier for this group. In the last two weeks, wins over Clear Springs who is also in the regional 6A qtrs and that Foster team were great tests.

Shocker BH an A and GCCISD right on the B/C line. So academics, community support, and athletics are all superior at BH so why would BH concern itself with Baytown again? Why would anyone in Baytown with the means not move their kids to BH? Seems like an easy answer for any parent.
