The original subject of this thread is completely unsubstantiated and, based on my own research, verifiably false. The speculation about the future of Nederland's runningback is also unsubstantiated. I know that is the hope of everyone in PNG Nation…. But there is probably a better chance than anyone wants to admit… keep in mind there is a long history of coaches at every level stating clearly that they have no intentions to leave…. And then a month later they are issuing there farewell letter thanking everyone for their support … 
it sounds like he has quickly established the right mindset among his staff so when they day comes that he leaves I’m sure it will be next man up over there… whether that search begins 10 years, 5 years or one year from now … or next month for that matter PNG will be fine

Vidor was battle tested by a stout Silsbee team and were a couple red zone turnovers away from keeping it closer…  Time to right the ship and notch a “W” in Santa Fe

By that logic... 55% of the coaches Vidor has played in the last 12 years should be fired.

Vidor had 12 winning seasons between 1940, their first year of football, and 1998.  so basically 12 winning seasons in 60 years.  Mathews had 11 winning seasons (plus two more .500 years) out of 24 seasons.  So for people to act like he wasn't good for Vidor, or that the school district should have fired him long ago, is simply laughable.  I think most of his detractors have something a little more personal, like they didn't start when they were at vidor, or maybe he didn't play their kid enough for their liking.  

You are correct… matched up against two very powerful Lindale teams and lost a one score game to chapel hill when Coach was sent to the ER two hours before kickoff… but you won’t find a 12 year stretch in Vidor history that even closely compares

We have very capable kids… however we are CLEARLY undersized versus nearly every team we play… anyone who has watched much Vidor football can see that easily… why is it so hard to see that Mathews and his system has helped Vidor see VASTLY more success than at any other time in their history… just the last 12 years alone were far more successful than any other 12 year period in Vidor history… 68-56… 7 playoff appearances and two district titles (one in 5A)… We’d love to see deep playoff runs every year… but Vidor just like nearly all other high schools for a number of reasons hasn’t had that kind of success for a number of reasons
the way some of you are acting you’d think Vidor was the only team in Region 5 that doesn’t go 3 rounds every year… heck I don’t even remember when some of these schools were relevant… Lumberton put together a nice run this season and looks strong for one more season… but overall they’ve been her cellar dweller for the last couple decades… BC has struggled to find any solid footing and apparently they brought in a wizard to bring them back to the promised land but alas even the highly touted gurus can’t turn them around… so I’d love to see that magical combination of talent, speed, size, coaching, and attitude hit Vidor… but it’s just not as simple as some of you paint it

Well… if you want to look at all 24 years let’s look at the 24 years before he took over… 69-157-3 … they were 15-86 the ten years prior to him becoming HC/ AD…I’d say he’s made a difference
it takes time to implement an offense and change a mindset in a program… especially one with a history of very little success… I think he implement the slot-t around 2006… after a couple years it caught on and more success followed than the program has ever seen.

I’ve asked you this before.. but will ask again for the folks in this conversation. And before I do.. not I or anyone else am taking anything away from the obvious knowledge and capabilities of the coaches you mentioned.
If it’s all about coaching, why don’t the same coaches win state championships every year? Literally.. every single year.

Again… yes you can and will. 10 flat DQ’s out of the blocks, missteps on a hurdle, runs out of their lane, pulls up cause of an injury, etc..

I didn't.   We moved there when the kids were younger.  There's no better place to raise kids in Orange County. 
 
Or on the Planet of Earth, for that matter. 

I'm sure it's closer to never.  I'd bet that they don't even meet with any of these coaches that they so openly ridicule behind a computer screen.
