Tim Riggins got a reaction from dme1111 in WOS at Vidor scrimmage
12-0-1, semifinal game vs San Marcos was tied 21-21, but the Rattlers advanced to play Palestine in the championship game with a 5-4 edge in penetrations. Second tie breaker was first downs and the third was total yardage. Vidor had a significant advantage in both of those. The 2011 Montana Quirante led team would be a close second IMO.

Tim Riggins got a reaction from Mr. Buddy Garrity in 6A DII State Championship: Katy vs. Cedar Hill/Post updates here
Katy is sometimes referred to as OLH, Offensive LIne High. Looked like it this afternoon.

Tim Riggins reacted to Cougar14.2 in Dodgeball Bowl state championship
This may be the highest per capita household income game ever to be played in a UIL state championship? Whoever wins this game gets to be the man that beat the man that beat the man. I think North Shore is still the best team in the state but a three turnover day caused the not to be that afternoon against Westlake.
More than any other year I can think of, which happens to also be the UIL’s 100th, the 2020 5A and 6A championship games highlight the dichotomy of THSF. Two things get you to a title game. 1) The best athlete x coach combination which is Crosby, Cedar Hill and Denton Ryan. 2) The best money x athlete combination which is SLC, Westlake, Aledo, Cedar Park and Katy.
Those combinations mean less the further you drop in classifications where individual players have more of an impact but I think I’m the big divisions it draws a pretty clear picture of who actually has a “chance” when the season starts.

Just got back from that beautiful scenic roof of beautiful east texas. Here's my take on the game tonight. Lindale was very good as expected. Their first drive they set the tone early with no huddles, quick passes, and heavy dose on with their RB #22. Vidor forced them to play our game which was run the clock and run the football, I was surprised at how hard our backs ran, probably the hardest I've seen them run all season. Pirates didn't get behind the chain too many times tonight and if they did, they were able to get 3rd/4th and manageable, and I think we gave Lindale a good scare pretty much all night til late in the 4th quarter. Defense looked good, and didn't give up too many big plays except #4 their WR who basically mossed two DBs and their #3 who was constantly open on slant routes. But the LBs and DBs, took the challenge and they were not afraid to come up, hit and make plays, they played physical tonight on rush plays. Besides a handful of plays, the secondary was decent at coverage, didn't give up long TD passes and kept almost everything in front of them. Defensive line, this unit is good every single week and tonight was no different. The first series with Lindale and their #4, they weren't scared to run between the tackles and he ran HARD. But the D-line and LBs held that dude in check most of the game. That kid is a hard runner but the Pirate defenders handled him we and wrapped up so he didn't get many YAC (yards after contact). I think the longest run may have been just 25 yards?! But after the game my nephew Jordan told me that Lindale was quickest offense that he's facesd since he's been on varsity. He was very pleased on how they contained the Baylor commit RB, he said that their RB only had 50 yard rushing at halftime and thinks only had 90 yards total at the end of the game. (I'll try and find the accurate total later) But anyways, I am more than proud of how the Pirates came and competed tonight, and Vidor gave them all they wanted and gave them some good scares til mid of the 4th quarter. Great season Pirates, yall played with hell of a lot of heart and left it all on the field. As a fan, it's all I can ask for. Already can't wait til next season, especially since it'll be my nephew's last year! If BYB, doesn't do scoring updates, I guess I'll be the one to take over.😉
Go Pirates! 🏴☠️

Agree. Great effort. A 4-4 Vidor team was not a pushover as some predicted

Tim Riggins reacted to BMTSoulja1 in Huffman Hargrave @ Vidor - Senior night 2020
That offense worked like a charm I remembered. One year you had a HUGE and mean oline that made it work in 2009. I remember it worked when you had a special athlete running it in Quirante. You have to have one or the other to run it successfully. Vidor haven’t had one or a combination of both in a while. I say just run a conventional offense until those two components show themselves at the high school...

Oh, somewhere in this favored land the sun is shining bright;
The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light,
And somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children shout;
But there is no joy in Viderville-the Pirates have lost their clout.

So, this game had the most disappointing team in the area, and the biggest surprise team in Livingston.
Hats off to the Lions, and best of luck on out.

Vidor has always had community support even during the lean years before Mathews became HC. We made the playoffs once in 2000 before he switched to the Slot-T in 2008 (I think) and fit it around the kids that participates and he implemented all the way down to the junior high level to learn the system as well. Since then, the Pirates have made it to the playoffs 5 times since 2009. He also bases playing time on who shows up during summer for workouts. Imo, without him, we wouldn't have the "hot box" indoor facility, the turf field, new restrooms, and video scoreboard. That's all because him getting the school board and boosters standing by and supporting him and all of it came without a bond. Plus, he's a great Christian coach and loves each one of his kids in all athletic sports in Vidor all the way down to the peewee leagues. Just my opinion...

Tim Riggins reacted to Boneyard Boys in Vidor @ Livingston
I’m thankful to the Vidor fans for coming out strong this season to support our Seniors. Even if it is only on the board here, it’s my last to be heavily involved. We won’t be nearly as invested next year but I will always follow the Pirates. I was coached by Jeff Mathews in his first year as head coach and now he leads my son’s last season. I still think Vidor will win this game and finish the season strong. We had a huge letdown against Splendora that never should have happened but I think you will see something special build for us the rest of the way. I believe in these boys, they are some of the best. 28-14 Vidor

Tim Riggins reacted to SmashMouth in Lumberton at LCM
Welcome to Lumberton. After 1/2 time the stands cleared. Probably a 1/3 of the stadium (band parents) got up and left. I get it. They want to see their kids perform just like I would, but have a little respect and community pride. A few weeks ago, the band was set to perform after the game. The players and cheerleaders were held hostage and made to sit and watch the band before they could leave the field. It was disgusting. Not the performance, the band is good. But the fact that the band parents (not all, but many) cried and whined and complained that they didn’t get any support from the athletic department. Stupid. The band is a part of the game, and I enjoy them. But when the FOOTBALL GAME is over, the kids who’ve been playing all night, bruised and banged up, hungry and ready for a shower shouldn’t be held hostage. And if the football parents, players, cheerleaders are forced to stay and watch the band, isn’t that just false support and a lie anyway? I wonder if after the next band competition, the band members will be forced to watch the football team run some plays or lift weights. Pure crap.

You too man. I know we rag each other but I do pull for Vidor and have kin folk that played on one of the best seasons Vidor ever had. To be honest our area really doesn’t play great football except one program and that’s WOS IMO. Silsbee gets hot in the playoffs and I really think at times they could have been a state contender but have fallen short in the two state semi games. Newton has a good program.
