In 1985 a buddy and I were leaving Wildwood (private resort) we had been drinking beer riding around (weekend before leaving for college) the gate guard called the police. As we left the gated area, the police were coming in, we just drove right on by like nothing happened. When they turned around and came after us, my friend didn't immediately stop. Once he did, we were told to get out of the car and put our hands on the hood. My friend had just been in a dirt bike wreak and was pretty bagged up....so he was slow to get get out....with cops yelling at him, I attempted to walk around and assist him.....only to hit in the lower back with a baton and reminded strongly not to move and keep my hands on the car where they could be seen....we spent a short time at the jail for minor in possession and questioned heavily why we didn't immediately stop....whereas, nothing else came of it, it was a good lesson about listening and doing EXACTLY what you are told to do, when dealing with the police.

With all of that said - I highly respect the the jobs of police officers, I can't even begin to imagine the courage it takes to deal with the general population, especially in this day in time....

but to fit the narrative - I guess white cops just hate everyone - even us white boys!

In about 1971 it was the summertime and my best friend and I sometimes "camped out" which was to sleep in a storage shed behind his house and watch the black and white television until it went off about Midnight while we were eating Spam sandwiches.  After that we might go fishing in the canal behind his house or ride our bicycles at night and early morning because it was cool.

One day we were doing that and riding our bicycles, our parents knew where we were and we were doing nothing wrong. That did not stop the Nederland police from not just questioning us but we were brought in to the police station. When our parents were called (woken up) and said they knew exactly what we were doing, they had to release us. The last thing we were told was that they were going to try and find what we had broken into.

I was sure praying that something hadn't been broken into that night............

    True and that was tragic.

This isn't the same world as it was 40 years ago. It isn't perfect by a long stretch but if you think that things are same now as back then, you are mistaken. I highly doubt that you think that. In fact it is not even close.

I don't want to nor should I have to take the blame for what happened back then any more than you should take the blame for the homicide rate in the black communities.

I will leave you with this, I was working a burglary one time many years ago and trying to find fingerprints of the person that broke into a black woman's home. I was working my butt off trying to get prints and she decided to tell me not to waste my time. Her statement was that she knew I didn't care about her and she then decided that she didn't even know why she bothered calling. I asked her what she was talking about. She told me that her uncle was beaten up by the police. When I asked when, she told me 1962. I had to ask further, so you think that I am not doing my job now (which she was watching me do) because of something that happened to a relative almost 30 years earlier?

Yep, that is exactly what she thought.

So what comes first, the chicken or the egg?

I'll try to shed some light on this topic through my experiences with Officers. I've encountered some sorry ass cops growing up on the West Side of PA. One incident was around 11 pm. A group of us were walking home(some on bikes) down Grannis & 9th when a police cruiser told us All to stop. We were All asked for ID's, we were all between the ages of 11-13. Nobody had identification except me, my Dad told me because of my Size, always carry my SS card or something to identify myself. After asking each of us our names, we were asked to place our hands on the hood & spread 'em. We'd done nothing wrong, but we complied. We were talked to badly, made fun of, very disrespected. We were guilty of walking around our neighborhood at night blocks from our homes. We were told we were stopped because someone reported bikes stolen. We All knew that was Bull, but that wasn't our Fight, our Parents would have to handle this. The incident didn't make me Hate Cops, but I didn't trust them. I didn't say the Race of the Officers because it doesn't matter, what does is we complied & lived. If anyone of us had gotten out of hand, who knows what happens. Some situations you aren't going to Win even if you're Right. Let's not kid ourselves to think that the Black Community doesn't have a complaint. We certainly do, but some of these cases we're Marching for aren't justified. The Story I just told resonates deeply within me because I have 4 young Sons with lots of friends who are susceptible to these episodes if not careful. Comply & Live.
This isn't a Black or White thing, it's A Compliance thing. Some Laws aren't made for some to succeed, I know this. Until we find a Solution we must adhere to the Laws of the Land.
God says obey my Law & Man's Law

This you and I agree on. I don't know, of course, if they would beat Alabama or Oregon but they are the best if you combine all phases of the game. I also agree that baylor would have gotten in ahead of them anyway due to head to head (which is hard to argue against). And I also agree on why they didn't get in. If Texas or Oklahoma had same resume', Ohio state would be home watching tomorrow.

Yes, the bus left at a few minutes after 8 am. Got to the stadium and watched the game before our game. Players had time to lay around and rest somewhat. The previous games our team had to travel around 4 hours to the game on the regular school buses. The other teams I saw also came in about the time we did. This in not why we got beat, we got beat by a better team. SUCK IT UP AND QUIT MAKING EXCUSES.
First it was we don't have the facilities, we don't have a big scoreboard, we did not leave the day before, we are poverty school district, Dang, we had a fantastic season and I am proud of our boys. If we had the money for big scoreboard and fancy facilities then we would have to have a lot of industry and we would have more people and we would be a bigger school and we would have to be competing with larger schools. The schools we are competing with are basically in the same shape that Newton is. Love it or leave it. I am staying.

I read on here before, teams that win need great facilities. Reckon that ain't the case. Just thought id throw that out there. I remember that thread. Didn't agree with it necessary but it does help. Your right, people in Newton or impoverished for the most part. But they are a close knit, that support each other, and the football program.

It's stoop. Some things are better left unknown for our own good. I know big girl won't understand but its not her strong suit anyway. If the waterboarding were kept secret, we wouldn't be having this discussion with big girl and that would be a good thing. Good thing waterboarding and sleep deprivation are all she is privy to. I sleep very well at night with a clear conscience knowing full well these things take place.

I watched Obama's press secretary yesterday. He was asked about claims of war crimes for enhanced interrogation. The follow up was that Obama's big claim to fame militarily is drone strikes but they have killed 600-900 innocent children. How did that stack up to scaring people and keeping them awake.

He babbled about how bad the enemy was and that they "try" to get good intel to limit innocent people getting killed but he never could answer the questions posed.

I find it interesting in light of recent protests where the cries were of, "black lives matter too". Well apparently innocent Muslim children do not matter and/or scaring people is a war crime but killing innocent children is not.

Things that make you go hmmm........

I personally support the strikes but it is interesting the claims of war crimes for one president where no one was killed but apparently that does not count for innocents being killed by the next president.

Mister Neil was right on just about everything during his tenure on the board, and that continues on. While reading the article, and his subsequent posting, I saw no name calling on his part. I saw him calling out unsportsmanlike behaviour, clear and simple. The biases were inserted from the player that responded.

This might have been the best thing that could have happened to Newton. Glad they scheduled good teams. They better learn from it. Stay healthy and they will do well the rest of the season.

Newton played really bad the entire game ,little leadership & no passing game yet. .they will get better and of course they will make playoffs . If anyone was going to score 60 it would have been Tatum tonight cause newton flat out sucked tonight, and Tatum is loaded. Tatum didn't play there best game either but it was a lot better than Newton ,Newton has 21 seniors on this team they will be fine. It's next year we are really worried about, as far as losing to graduation thing .

Newton will recover. They may have scheduled some tough opponents for non district. But if they avoid injuries it may make them a much better team.

Ten years from now they'll be jumping on the bandwagon. Or just in a deep state of depression. I hear there's pills for that. Seek medical help by all means if necessary. I could be wrong, not likely, you don't need a crystal ball. The writing is on the wall. But just like everyone else, it's only my opinion. I'm just extremely confident in Coach Strongs ability and the University of Texas staff. The Texas Longhorn Empire is on the immediate horizon. Get on the bus, or get ran over by it!!!

Lets get an honest portrayal of the victim. I personally have no idea what happened when Brown was confronted by the policeman. But the media and protesters have made this all about the "innocent victim" with "no criminal record" who's "about to go to college." When you look at it like that, it's hard to believe that he would get into an altercation with a cop, and makes it much more believable that the cop might have shot him down without provocation. BUT when you see a video of him assaulting a store clerk while stealing something, and then find out it happened minutes before he got into the altercation, it changes things a bit. A) It shows us that he's not the perfect kid who would never do anything wrong, and B ) it gives a very reasonable explanation as to why he might get into an altercation with a cop, as he might very well think he's about to be arrested. What's bad is that there are those who choose to ignore these facts, because they're absolutely positive that a white officer with 6 years on the force with no problems got up that morning and decided to shoot him a black guy. To me this video at least should be enough for people to step back and wait and see what evidence comes out before making judgement, especially since the main witness was involved in the same robbery. The cop may very well be in the wrong, but I'm believing more and more that Brown did initiate a confrontation with the cop. Now whether or not the amount of force used was appropriate is in doubt, but I'd sure like to hear more evidence before I give a verdict. This video is a perfect example of why we should wait... Because 24 hours ago he was a perfect kid who'd never done anything wrong in his life, and now it's been shown that he committed a felony just minutes before he was shot.
