    Isn't it already like this?

Not really.......I would want to remove all write offs and back door avenues to get to where someone owes nothing. That is how the ultra wealthy pay nothing. It is "legal" but ethical.......meah.

I guess I favor a flat tax. You make $100,000, multiply by 10% and you owe $10,000. See how easy tax season becomes? But as Hippy said above, the big money decision makers won't allow this.

The other issue is these ultra wealthy folks draw very little taxable salary, in proportion to their actual worth. They borrow off of their stock holdings and pay no tax off of that.

Elon paid 11 billion in Taxes in 2023. He also employees over 130,000 people.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I don’t think you should be penalized or demonized  for success.

If Elon did, good on him. But if you have the billionaires bragging they don't pay anything there is a problem.

And I guess the point I wanted to discuss is the problem lies in the tax code not in what percentage is attached to different levels of income

Most rational people agree that tax code should be simplified and taxes should be lower.

The real debate always comes down to how exactly are we going go cover the trillions in federal debt. Republicans pretend to care. Democrats don’t even pretend to care.

I think you could have a simplified system with staggered percentages.

    If you make $100 - $50K you pay 5%

    If you make $51K - $200K you pay 10%

    If you make $201K - $500K you pay 15%

    If you make $501K - $1M you pay 17.5%

All the way out to billions. Everyone needs to have skin in the game. The percentages can be debated and agreed upon

The issue is we are asking the ones that benefit from the code the most to be fair and equitable including them and their cronies

    Just my simple minded thoughts

  4. I wanted to simply pose a question and get some honest, constructive feedback and dialogue. I do not want .....Trump is a nazi, Trump is a russian asset etc.

I am a conservative socially and fiscally. I don't live on this forum but I come in, read and comment sometimes.

In the debate with Hillary Mr. Trump stated "Not paying taxes makes him smart". "If you want me to pay taxes, change the tax code". This is not just Trump, many people on both sides of the aisle take advantage of this. (Soros, Buffett, Bezos, Gates etc...)

I have argued this for years. Many on the left want to raise the percent the ultra wealthy are taxed at but if the CODE is not changed it will not matter. It will only be us paying a higher percentage.

I say all that to ask this..... What has to happen to change the 6,871 page tax code? I am a believer that you should be able to file your taxes on a 3"x5" card. I have friends from other countries that have relocated to Thailand because they just pay 10%. It is easy, I made 200K here is your 20K I am done.

He’s not an effin auditor. He’s a successful narcissistic entrepreneur. He doesn’t have a clue about how OUR government works. He craves attention and money. That’s what got his new puppet to take him in. That and $270,000,000.

That is exactly the point. How OUR government works isn't working. One thing he and Trump do understand is business.

I hope the meltdowns continue. That is why independents and some dems voted red.

While I can definitely appreciate your sentiment towards our vets, with a 36 trillion dollar debt (and counting), I would say that doing both is not feasible. 50% savings on wasteful spending isn't going to clear that debt up. Private sector donations would be the way to go. For those who feel that strongly about helping out our vets, donate time, money (if you have it) and professional resources (pro bono work).

We need to quit relying on the government to be our savior. They are the exact opposite.

Separate yourself from government reliance. As people depend on handouts, they become passive. They don't push through obstacles. They wait for government help. Certainly there are plenty of those who do require assistance, but there are way too many that bleed the system - including our beloved politicians. They use frivolous handouts and deficit spending to garner votes - and to line their pockets.

The vets are very important - but so is the well-being of ALL Americans and the strength of our economy.

When I am speaking of veterans I do not view them as dependent on handouts. Yes, there are many in America that depend on government to carry them along but not vets. This country spent billions of dollars sending them off to war, we can spend the same to take care of them when they return from war.

If we could stop funding useless studies around the world, sending billions to countries that hate us and funding departments in Washington DC (Dept. of Education being one) the savings would start.

I agree with you that tough, unpopular choices will have to be made but veteran care would be off the table for me.

And a huge Thank You to your parents for their service

I would respectfully disagree. Btw, both my parents were United States Marines - my Dad was a lifer... 30 years.

First, we need to address the deficit.

I would say that the administration needs to come up with (and adhere to) a budget for ALL programs while making sure there are ample funds for veteran's programs. I wouldn't just start throwing money at ANY program without a realistic budget. Additionally, as relates to veterans, I would hope for a revamped VA before I just poured money into that cesspool of inefficiency.

Let's get the deficit addressed first which is only going to happen with unpopular and difficult cuts and doing away with frivolous uncontrolled spending. I'm not saying to kick veterans to the curb. I'm saying that we need to get our house in order before we keep spending additional monies that we don't really have.

I am with you on that. That is why I say 50% and not every dollar.

I believe there is enough savings that we can do both. Total revamp of VA

This country has been throwing money around like Phil Mickelson and John Daly in the high roller room at Bellagio.

    Same here.

But my old school self wants to go back to the old SWC days. But that's just me. lol

I can remember watching on Saturday morning and hearing the TV announcer say "These are the games of the Southwest Conference!!".

    Oh what memories.

Yessir, me too. The best of times

Me too. I think his Big Red Machine could have beat Mantle/Maris Yankees. They had like 4-5 players batting .300. I used to could have named them. Johnny Bench…..the best catcher ever.

Pete Rose never bet for or against his team. I can understand why it might be a rule not to bet baseball when you are a coach, but to ban that man from the HOF is a tragedy.

Maybe he will get in now......but it is a shame he will not get to enjoy it.

    RIP Charlie Hustle

  10. I have to apologize, I gave kamala way too much credit earlier when I said she was flip flopping on issues. According to Sen. Sanders she was being 'pragmatic' and lying. This is from an interview with Bernie Sanders on Meet The Press.......

Host Kristen Welker: "She has previously supported Medicare for All, now she does not. She's previously supported a ban on fracking, now she does not. These, Senator, are ideas that you have campaigned on. Do you think that she is abandoning her progressive ideals?"

Sanders: "No, I don't think she's abandoning her ideals. I think she is trying to be pragmatic and

This is the hidden content, please

At least he is straight up about it

We beg for substance.........we are usually, almost always, disappointed. But when the state run media will not demand more we are left with her.

  12. She knows the softball questions that were coming and she still can't give a coherent non-cackling answer.

She was against fracking, now she is for it. She was against a border wall, now she is for it.

I wish for once her and biden would be treated like Trump in a press conference. I know it will never happen but we can hope she has to answer a few non-scripted questions at some point. I know we would get the deer in the headlights look biden was famous for. By the way, is he on vacation until he has to vacate the white house? No, I bet he is trying to get in all the meet and greets the biden syndicate was paid so well for.

  13. No where am I defending, and Hunters laptop, I am not worried about rhetoric. I just find it amusing that saying Harris can go to hell is so worrisome. Nobody has been so publicly berated as Trump. He is a big boy, rhetoric doesn't bother him. Hell, the left has tried to bankrupt him with frivolous lawsuits, trying to send him to prison with insane allegations, and even tried killing him. So, some name calling is kinda par for the course.
