Sadly no, I have never been able to make friends.  You did read there were only 19 of us correct?  Went to ETBU in college with 2 of my classmates, and I can tell you about most of them too.  The topic wasn't college friends though.  Perhaps I will start another topic if you so desire smart a $&.

Wow,this thread got way off topic! If you've seen pictures of what the kid built and you can honestly say you think its a clock, you really need to wake up!
I've shown pics of the device to numerous people that hadn't heard details about the story, and almost all of them said it looks like a bomb or something from a movie, not one of them said,OH that's a clock.

Again the media shapes this into an over-reaction.
It could have been a bomb......
Gohornets.......when they had the cartoon contest and the two terrorist were killed by the police officer......I guess that was an over-reation....

I graduated from Chester HS in 1986, with a class of 19.  In my class alone we now have a chemical engineer, a college dean of financial aid, a director of education for a prison, a law-enforcement supervisor, several private business owners, a registered nurse, a banker, a high-ranking oil-field supervisor, a school employee and an upper-level non-commissioned officer in the military.  Those are just the ones off the top of my head, as I have lost contact with several class members, and we have had a few pass away.
Economically you would kill smaller communities.  Most small communities have the school district as the largest employer.  You truly want to consolidate, you are not going to have campuses in those communities - not cost effective.  So you have lost your largest employer, your taxes go to another community and you lose jobs, tax money, business opportunities.  Business opportunities?  Take your local restaurant in town, and you have your tournament or games in general.  You are going to make the bulk of your money off these opportunities of people coming to your community.
School pride!  Has Beaumont ever recovered from consolidating?  Beaumont used to have school pride, and community pride.  French High, Beaumont High, Charlton-Pollard High, Hebert High, Forrest Park High, South Park High....community pride was abundant.  It was decided to consolidate, and Beaumont lost something it has never gotten back.
I am not angry at you.  Discussion is good, and not everyone has to agree with each other.  You will probably not agree with my assessment, and find fault in many of my arguments.  I was raised in Beaumont, and moved to Chester my freshman year.  I was able to play football, basketball, baseball, tennis and participate in numerous UIL events.  I would have never had those opportunities had we stayed in Beaumont.  I will end with this.  I was in Arkansas this past weekend at a HS baseball prospect camp with my son at a university up there.  I was talking to one of the dads from Arkansas, and he mentioned this very thing you are proposing.  He went on to say how horrible it has been for the smaller communities.  The city/community where the HS was located gets the preferential treatment.  The kids that were brought in from the outlying communities were treated as second class, and made to feel inferior.  I chuckled when you posted this thread, thinking about that conversation.  We will stay at our small school, and I went from purple and gold to the Blue and Gold of Evadale HS supporting my boys.

Oh yea, one last thing.  The news showed a large group of adult muslims praying toward mecca on school grounds.  If this wasn't student led we might have a problem.  You know we have to maintain separation of church and state you know.

So am I safe to assume that you haven't looked up the actual law the young angel was detained for?  I am truly amazed at the outpouring of support for the young man.  In todays society you simply have to take a proactive approach toward public safety.  No harm - no foul.  Once it was determined to not be a bomb, the young lad was released.  He never had to sleep in a cell.  Now he gets a free trip to Washington D.C. on the taxpayers dime to meet his president.

As I read of another officer shot in Arizona this time. I read of officers being denied food at fast food restraunts. I read all of these abosolutely 100%disgusting stories against the very people who is risking their lives everyday for us. WHat is happening to us as a country. You do not get to or stay at being the kind of country we are by lacking respect for the authorities. This goes back to generations of kids raised not to respect authorities. We need to raise the cost of crimes against officers across the board. Period. We need to punish those people very harshly. They leave little room as to the status of wheather they have redeaming values.

In short- Kid brings a homemade clock to school, gets arrested, then Obama invites him to the White House.

I've never seen a homemade bomb in real life, but from what I've seen on TV that clock in a briefcase sure looked a whole hell of a lot like a bomb to me.  You can't blame the school for taking precautions especially with the way society is these days.  Was he profiled?  Maybe, but who are building bombs and blowing things up all across the world?

Also how does Obama find the time to make a public statement about this kid being mistreated, but can't come out and denounce a hate group that is rallying people to assassinate law enforcement?  That man's priorities are all out of whack.

Well at our small school, the Sup, the Princ, the Asst Princ and the Ath Dir are all the same person.  Not very wasteful is it?  And if you had any knowledge about rural schools and rural communities, which apparently you seem to be lacking....when the school goes, so goes the community.  I kinda like my little spot in the woods and would like to see it stay there and on the map.  Texas is too big to have just a few dots on its map.  And if my child  doesn't go further in his athletic career, it's not because he goes to a small school with no other 'competition'.  It's because he hasn't the natural ability or he hasn't put in the work to make it happen.  If you have the ability and the work ethic, there are a multitude of avenues to take to get noticed.  Even the college coaches tell us they don't go to high school games like they used to because of all the camps, showcases, select teams etc.  Not to mention that there are ways to walk on.  Michael Jordan didn't play high school basketball from what I've read in the past, but yet he's one of if not the greatest player of all time.  As for the financial aspect of it, consolidation may eliminate a couple of administrative positions here or there if you're lucky.   But it probably won't.  Your comparison of 1000 kids to 100 kids is not even accurate.  The 1000 kid schools have multiple asst sups, multiple asst. princ and athletic personnel galore.   And consolidation of schools doesn't eliminate campuses per se, especially if you don't have schools within a 10 mile radius to consolidate.  You still have to have the teachers and you still have to have some type of administration on the campus as well as all the operational costs.  But if you do close campuses then guess what it does to the family??  As one poster stated about transportation, the kids would have to get on the bus by or before 6am each morning and get home much later.  But that's only if you don't have extracurricular activities.  Then it's much harder for parents to take care of their kids and it is much more costly for them to do the traveling.  Unless your idea is to stop kids from participating or require everyone to move to the city, then it's not logical for rural families to have to take that on.  I could go on about education, discipline and crime, but this topic just really makes me want to scream.

Hate is a strong word.  I strongly disapprove of him being the president,  His lack of experience should've been enough for him to not even be considered in 08.
So you didn't vote for him in 08 or 12?
