never heard of brownfield, but found them on the UIL site.  two crazy things...

    1) they don't have a senior on their roster this year

    2) their first round playoff game was a blowout.  following that they won their playoff games by 2, 2, 7, 5, 3, and 4 points.  Don't know if I've ever seen a run like that.

Dying West Texas town near Lubbock.
if you are old enough, you might have heard of Sheryl Swoopes who was born and raised there.

I was more talking about overall athletic success than just hoops. I think they have started to siphon the athletes out of Dallas. They won state in football this year with one of the best clubs that I’ve seen in 4A. A couple years ago they had 10 baseball guys that had D1 scholarships. That’s unheard of in that size school for a bench player to have a D1 scholarship. I know they aren’t going to be that dominant in basketball but they have something going on up there.

What they have is a great school district, a nice community, and a commitment to all athletics from the school board down.  But the biggest draw for them I think is location.  For families in the Fort Worth and Denton area that are looking for a smaller/suburban setting there isn’t a better choice right now. The growth going north of Fort Worth up I35 towards Denton is absurd.  And Argyle is the benefactor.  They are basically Southlake Carroll 25 years ago.
It also helps they probably occasionally get a transfer or two from Southlake, Keller, Flower Mound or Northwest ISD.

I don’t expect Argyle to stay 4A much longer.

You might be a top 10 updater on this site BB.  Keep it up.

    Ha.

I don’t know anything about this years Vidor basketball team. Have zero ties to the school. I’m positive I’ve never spent more than 5 minutes of my life inside the city limits of Vidor. But the way this guy updates the games and describes the action keeps me coming back each week to see how the Vidor Pirates did.

My young man transferred to DHS from Mauriceville after 8th grade (Prouse's first year). My 14yr old 5'0" 98lb freshman was not allowed to compete because the UIL ruled that they couldn't prove he didn't move for athletic reasons 🤣.  He never missed a two-a-day or regular practice, Coach Prouse allowed him to practice, allowed him to dress and travel with his team. At kickoff, one of the assistant's would take his helmet (to ensure he'd never get on the field). Never missed a practice and never touched the field...all year long. I was extremely proud of him and his Coaches. Today, as a Senior, he was named 1st Team All-District WR and 1st Team All-District CB. Good things will come if you work hard enough for them. Extremely proud of my young man, his team and his Coaches. Go Pirates!

Was there not a JV team your sons freshman year at Deweyville?

Kirbyville was up 19-16 in the 2nd and played the stall game for about 4-5 minutes and the other team walked off the floor and left.

Lol what? Is this how the game ended? Tell me that’s not true.  Who is Christian Academy and where are they from?

I am not a fan of playing stall ball one game into the season because there are so many other things to work on this early, but that’s absurd if the other team just walked off and quit.

If 4 seeds didn't belong no one could ever explain how Decatur ended up in the state semi-finals last year. I'm for 4 teams in the playoffs but the UIL needs to find someway to eliminate the 4 and 5 team districts.

Decatur made the semifinals last year because they play in Region 1. And they realistically only had to beat their own district champion (WF Hirschi) to get there, whom they already beat in district.

You seem confident it will be a blowout. So set the line and give me Decatur and the points.

    No go on Liberty Hill.

It’s funny how these slow, unathleitc, half court teams like Brock, Ponder, and Argyle don’t look the part yet seem to keep winning championships.

Decatur will give Yates/FF a game. I will be shocked if they don’t.

Welp Decatur didn’t do their part. Ugly game. Good luck to the remaining teams.

I am pulling for Yates but I’ve had a feeling the Region 2 team would be the team to beat due to being so battle tested.  I hope I’m wrong and the Lions wear them down like they have almost all teams they’ve faced.   I do think this should be the de facto championship game.  Decatur has the ability to slow the game down and maybe hang around and pull off an upset in a low scoring affair.  But I think either of these teams losing to the winner of the other semi-final would be a considerable upset.

I think Decatur might surprise some people and it might not be as big of an upset as some think if they win it all. They have some length, play very solid defense and are well coached. Similar to Argyle teams of the past. But one difference is I think they will push the ball and look for easy baskets more in transition than your typical walk it up the court and run your half court sets. Yates/FF May negate that though. Should be interesting.

I rewatched the Carter/Silsbee game last night. That was one of the best games I've ever seen. Even the anouncers said so. Much more entertaining than Silsbee/Argyle.

Don't see how anyone can be a fan of this stall ball garbage.

Lumberton tries this on Tuesday, and I hope Silsbee shows them no mercy this time around.

WO-S ain't gonna win with that coach. How many of his players even really care. He's probably done lost the team, so to speak.

So if you were the coach of Lumberton, you would try to run and gun with Silsbee? You have to put your team in the best position to win the game. Trying to run with Silsbee isn’t it.

Do not rule out Argyle in Region I or Liberty Hill in Region IV

They might come out of Region IV because it is generally the weakest region, but I was extremely unimpressed the one time I saw Liberty Hill this year. Silsbee would run them out of the gym.

Decatur is an interesting team who looks to be the favorite out of Region 1. They have a 6’7 or so post that can play, a guard/forward who is solid and they play really solid team defense. Most importantly they play really well together and are extremely, extremely well coached.  I think they had a better team two years ago. They were district champs that year, Argyle finished second and we know how tough they were at the state tournament.

Anyways, Silsbee/Decatur would be an interesting matchup similar to the matchup with Silsbee/Argyle two years ago.

    My apologies. 2001, 2002, 2003, 2008, 2012, 2014 are the playoff appearances in the last 20 years.

According to the banners hanging in the gymnasium.  But, still......not a lot to hang the ole' hat on in regards to basketball in hardin america.  According to one source, they advanced to the regional tournament in 2001-2002 season and fell short to Frankston in the Regional Final - but the banner in the gym says region quarterfinalist -which is incorrect. Duane Joubert was the Basketball coach during this run in the early 2000's - who I did not know coached at Hardin before going to Kountze.

They had some kids they could go from 2000-2004 ish. Think they moved up in class around 2004 which slowed their success, then the loss of Joubert obviously hurt.
