  1. If tcu shows up to play and doesn't mail it as we've seen some teams do when they don't get the bid they want, they beat the hell out of ole miss. Too much firepower on offense and an underrated defense. One of the best, if not the best, teams in the country. Period.

See, this is why I like your posts. You are a smart man.
  2. What does being an Aggie have anything to do with this conversation??

Fact is there are several articles regarding the players and student associations worrying about the "attendance issue" at TCU football games - so while I cannot speak of bowl game attendance even TCU is concerned about their home game attendance numbers.

And again....I was defending a comment made specifically about a bowl game attendance.

    Attendance smack is weak anyways.
  3. Based that off a relative of mine who is a ticket broker. Certainly wasn't there so I can't argue with you on those numbers. Had NO idea tcu only has 80k living alumni. To have that kind of turnout with those numbers is crazy. And for what it's worth, heard today that TCU would be a 4 pt underdog against Alabama on a neutral site and Baylor would be a 7 pt dog. What's the line again in the Sugar Bowl?

    No worries.
Believe TCU is a 3 to 3 1/2 point favorite.
    Speaking of lines....
The Big Ten has 10 teams playing in bowls games this year. They are the underdog in EVERY game. But somehow OSU is deserving of a final four spot.
  4. Agree with most all of that. But both tcu and Baylor travel poorly. Very poorly. Tickets to the Fiesta Bowl last year were literally going for $5. Tcu had a similar showing the year they played Wisconsin in the rose bowl.

I generally like your posts, and usually agree with most everything you say....BUT you could not be further from the truth with this one regarding TCU. I was at the Rose Bowl game. TCU brought at least 40k, probably 45k. Wisconsin had about 55k. Not bad considering there are only 80 thousand TCU living alumni. You want to slam TCU because half our fans stay at the tailgate when we play marginal opponents, fine. But we travel well considering our enrollment/number of alums. Put us in a bowl game against a quality, power 5 opponent and we will fill it. Just like we will do for the Peach Bowl.

Okay, here are my two cents. For those of you that don't know, I am, well, I WAS a player as of last friday at around ten o'clock. I have played HJ basketball for 4 years now, and I can honestly say that in all my four years, I have never seen a team as disciplined as LaVega. They were in a lot of ways like Nederland except far more athletic. They did nothing dumb or flashy, they just played solid, fundamental basketball.

Players from LaVega were where they were supposed to be at all times. When we went up one with forty seconds left and tried to make the pass up the court to get it across and stall, the LaVega players knew they needed to get the ball. They knew who our go-to guy was Prudhomme, so they stuck to him like glue. No timeout was needed to tell their players where to be.

The defense they played was awesome. Not perfect, but awesome. They started out soft and let you get the ball up the court for the first part of the game, then around the third quarter, they started a little half-court trap defense, then once crunch time came around, there was full-court pressure! HJ knew how to beat it and had prepared for it, but Friday night, after getting ready to take the floor because Athens was shooting free-throws to win it basically, and then having to wait through TWO overtime periods did something to both teams that night, I can promise you that.

LaVega was a [s]good[/s] great team. Their will to win was just like that of HJ's. They were not unbeatable, and anyone who watched Friday night could have told you that. HJ, I dare to say, COULD have one that game, but I don't think SHOULD have one the game. Were we capable of winning that game? NO DOUBT!!!!! But capability, probability, and actuality are three totally different things that can be extremely painful when they all don't agree.

Now for the most important part of my post. LaVega's basketball team (not it's fans, because I am hearing differently of them, although I'm not positive about them) was the classiest group of young men I have seen in a LONG time (aside from HJ of course). They were extremely happy that they one that game, but when we went to shake their hands, there was not an ounce of sneering or disrespect coming from them. All they had were positive things to say about us and I think that is the most important aspect of High-School athletics. After the game when we were waiting on the bus to come pick us up at the back of the Coliseum, they came out AGAIN and shook all of our hands, congratulating us on a great season and complimenting all of us. They were extremely well-mannered, and if I HAD to lose to anyone, I'm glad it was them.

    Excellent post.
I have no ties whatsoever to Hardin-Jefferson, but its hard not to root for a team/school/community that has young men like this representing them.  Congrats on a great season and good luck in your future.

Silsbee had to take it easy with that defense due to foul trouble in the 4th quarter and i think thats what let HJ back in the game. What does that say about the effects of silsbees extremely tough schedule compared to HJ's exceptionally easy one?

It says that if HJ had played Silsbees schedule, they would have about the same record as Silsbee.
  8. David Milson - Cedar Hill

    Glen Hayes - Aransas Pass

    Sammy Koudelka - Moulton

Girls coach at Winnsboro???  Buddy ???

    Joe Lombard - Canyon Girls

Buddy Hawkins is the Winnsboro coach.  And i will add Samantha Morrow to the girls list.  4 straight 5A titles at Mansfield(assuming shes still coaching).

Cant argue with yours or DV's list.

  9. is nw a good team

Unless you've been in a cave this whole year.....Yes!  :D

:D are they better than the ponder team

Better..maybe. More athletic...Definitely. Its hard to call this one because Ponder is an extremely good defensive team. This ones a toss-up. You have #1 vs. #2. Can Ponder handle New Waverly's defensive pressure and athleticism? Can New Waverly handle Ponder's controlled offense and great man-to-man defense? This one will be a dandy.

Ponder by 10 plus.  Too good on both ends of the floor.  They can play anyway you like.  One of the best, if not the best, 2A team in quite a while(along with Kountze 05) IMO.

  10. I have a few race horses of my own...Write a weekly horse racing column  in the examiner and also do some writing for BloodHorse Magazine and trackside reporting for Delta Downs and their live telecast.

If Curlin doesn't take to the new Pro-Ride surface at Santa Anita, as well as Asmussen's other horse Student Council, he won't be in the Classic. Curlin jogged their this morning....we'll see.

Big Brown will get ate up and Kent Desormeaux will be pulling up like he did in the Preakness like a sore loser.

Is Zenyatta running in the Classic against the Boys?  Hadnt heard that.

Spot on about Curlin.  And BB too.

  11. AS ANY OTHER COACH DONE THAT,I NO MR.DICK WOULD NO. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

    CATMAN,

Help me out here.  I believe that was in the late 80's(do not remember the exact year).  BS played Paducah and lost.  They did have the dubious honor of having the record for highest aggregate score in a championship game.   BS never quit.  They continued to played even until the end. The thing that sticks out from that game in my mind is that Paducah wanted the record and the fans at the erwin center booed Paducah for the lack of class.  Big Sandy has always been a class act win or lose.  Best of luck to Big Sandy and Coach Foster.

1988.  Paducah and Will Flemons were tough.  Won it in 87 as well.
