How was 02-03? And if they had a good team in 07-08, then that’s not turned around. Then what happened 08-09?

2001-2002 Regional Tourney in then Class 2A

2002-2003 Moved up to then Class 3A and finished 3rd in district behind Kountze, HJ

2003-2004 Finished 3rd in District behind Kountze, HJ

cant speak on the state of the program before he got there.

  2. There seems to be a lot of excuses being made.

I’m sorry, but when you have the #1 recruit in Texas (McDonald’s All American) on a 4A team who is not devoid of talent besides her and you don’t win State at least once in 4 years, there is blame to go around.

HJ was easily the most talented 4A team in State the last two years.  Should have won last year, and most definitely should have won this year especially after slaying Argyle.

Not implying it’s all on the coaches because kids have to perform in crunch time. But that staff will be wondering how they let it slip away for years to come.

Looking at Brownsboro’s schedule, they’ve had a good season, but played about 5 quality teams all year and lost to two those.  Both of their losses are to teams in the 3A final four, and Fairfield beat them them by 24.  HJ has played at least a dozen teams that would be favored against brownsboro, and won most of them.  Fairfield is the only team on Brownsboro that would give HJ a game.  This team has broken 70 about 5 times all year.  They slow it down.  They’re argyle with an easier schedule and much worse shooting.  HJ obviously has to show up, but I don’t think brownsboro would have much of a shot against argyle or La Vega.  If HJ stays healthy and out of foul trouble I could see them winning this game comfortable.  I’m going to say 76-50.  Hard to make a prediction like that against a team with a 38-2 record, but if HJ and brownsboro swapped schedules HJ would likely be 40-0 (39-1 at worst), and brownsboro would have double digit losses.  Excited for the game tomorrow!

Pretty much agree with everything you said.  I’m not saying B’boro can’t make a game of it, but it’s unlikely. The state championship was decided today.

Argyle having no issues with the press either, leading to a lot of easy buckets. Not sure I’d press this team in the 2nd, they pass the ball really well.

    Yep.

You don’t beat Argyle by pressing.
You’re not going to create a lot of turnovers, nor are you going to force them into bad shots.

You try and beat them by playing fundamental half court defense and contesting every shot.

does argyle have any d1 players, or mcdonalds all americans?  i dont guess it matters because canyon didnt either and was successful last year.  how does a team like canyon or an argyle knock off a team as loaded as HJ ?  is it coaching, or just 5 girls who know their role better than the opponent (with more talent) ?  HJ is going to be good for a long time from what i hear about that program !!!

They have a D1 player this year who is a senior. They are young this year and their best talent is underclassmen.  They are going to be loaded as usual for the foreseeable future, even with the move up to 5A.

How do they maintain it? Lots of factors….tradition, parental involvement, coaching, and they have an excellent youth program. I also believe they have an actual athletic period in 6th grade unlike most schools. So when those girls get to junior high basketball they are ready to roll.

No personal issue.  I’ve never met the man.  An account created a thread several months back that was pretty disparaging to some local coaches, and very complimentary of Mitchell (and others, but his name kept coming up).  Several posters in the thread seemed to be of the opinion that the account belonged to Mitchell (so this wasn’t some wild conclusion I came up with myself), and in fact there was serious speculation that a second account that kept agreeing with the first account in the thread belonged to him as well.  Looking at the post history of both accounts, it seemed very likely.  I’d give it <90% that it was him based on reading other posts from those accounts going back quite some time.  There were other comments in that thread concerning the fact that he had the benefit of an all-time player in the program, and Mitchell/“not Mitchell” scoffed at the idea that McClure was a bigger reason for Lumberton’s improvement than Mitchell himself.  And now all year long Lumberton fans have come up with one reason after another as they’ve underperformed, which was the purpose of my original excuse post.  “So and so is injured”, “Mitchell wasn’t there”, “the refs”, etc.  Without a doubt Mitchell played a part in lumberton’s improvement, but I tend to think it’s not AS BIG of a part as some others think.

Share the thread please. I need to see this.

Unless you're a SLC fan, how is this a bad thing? A 17 year old has seven figures sitting in from of him, to some families that is life changing. For the player, he gets some money up front. What if he tears his achilles next Spring and end up getting beat out by another 5 star and never plays, meaning he never hits the league and earns the money some are saying he should wait on?

For Ohio State it's definitely a win. Your prize recruit doesn't have to risk injury his senior year and you get a head start working with him. Everybody is always for capitalism until it starts to delve into areas that they don't like. As of right now NIL is the most fair way to compensate the employees who are bringing in hundreds of millions into some of these companies.

Football isn’t the only way to make money in this world.

not sure what you mean by “real basketball”, but both these teams beat a lot of “real teams” to get here. 30+ wins for each of them with only one loss each. That’s about as “real” as it gets.

I prefer the kind of basketball that gives my team the best chance to win.  Don’t care if it’s “real” or not.  Argyle does what they do better than any other team in 4A does what they do. Real or not.
