This is what I think: The further we get from Athenian democracy, the closer we get to Macedonian rule (look them up). The more that public participation in the process can be restricted, the less that public’s bearing on political outcomes will be. I’m not just talking about voting either. I mean civics, history, sociology. These are being either minimalized or perverted in our education system. Party don’t matter. Active, informed participation does. -
Dave Campbell’s Texas football magazine
tigerheart replied to purpleeagle's topic in High School Football
You could’ve been like me and pay to be a subscriber and get the magazine early, it not come until August 1st…and then read a whopping 1 sentence about your team and every team in your teams district. Definitely makes the membership seem worth it… I do enjoy the perks of the year round articles…but that entire districts write ups were bad. And before the rebuttal of “they can only write what the coaches provide”. I asked, he wasn’t thrilled about it either and said he filled out the questionnaire with quite a bit more detail but he can’t control what people say (or don’t) in a magazine. -

Texas GOP's New Congressional Map Would Create 5 New Seats!
UT alum replied to Reagan's topic in Political Forum
Who drew those maps? Republican legislatures. Tell me. Why should Brian Babin, a native rural east Texan be also representing urban Pasadena and Deer Park? The Republicans gerrymandered that map to make room for more Republican voters in the other districts. You really need to study up on how and why redistricting occurs. Your post is senseless. -

from your article, see below On another note, I know you mentioned you would not like it from either side, but both sides do it. It is a tit for tat game and the one that does not do it losses.....as long as it is within the laws and legal, why not? The bending the knee / bowing is being used for anything the Dems don't like......like the settlements with universities.....the King narrative..... Cory Booker is trying to win an Oscar for his performances.....lol A person familiar with Abbott’s thinking said it was “inaccurate” to characterize the governor as being reluctant to pursue redistricting, but declined to provide any additional details. Andrew Mahaleris, a spokesperson for Abbott, declined to comment on Abbott’s conversations with Trump and other Republicans about redistricting but said the governor “looks forward to the legislature addressing important topics such as flood relief and property tax cuts, along with other critical issues, during this special session.” Abbott justified the redistricting by saying it was needed to address “constitutional concerns raised by the U.S. Department of Justice” about the current maps, which were drawn in 2021 and are the subject of an ongoing court challenge. The concerns were raised in a DOJ letter dated two days before Abbott announced the special session, in which Assistant U.S. Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon argued that four of Texas’ Democratic-controlled districts were unconstitutional and should be redrawn on the grounds of racial gerrymandering. -

I’ve never supported it. Political gerrymandering is a form of voter suppression, regardless what party’s doing it.
