FINAL — Newton 24 at Hardin 25 — Discussion
RTR replied to SETXsports's topic in High School Football
Spot on, when we walked into the stadium and I looked over at Newton lined up for the National Anthem, man they looked intimidating! But they played one dimensional. I believe Hardin stopped them on every extra point attempt, Hardin shocked them right away with the onside then quick score too. Hardin should have had another onside kick, and that was definitely a fumble that was taken away from Hardin. Plus, Newton’s QB has a hell of an arm, but they changed their whole offensive scheme for some reason. Maybe Newton’s coaches were a little cocky and didn’t take Hardin serious -

That's my question as well. Not sure which way this district goes in that regard. -

Willie Gaston is on the Reginald Samples trajectory. I’m a huge Kenny Harrison fan, I think he’s an elite leader of young men and am glad he was able to show some of the PAM fans that everything wasn’t his fault. That’s being said purely from a numbers standpoint he has almost twice the talent pool of Willie Gaston. NS may produce more high end talent but SC can hang with anybody in the state prospect wise so it’s not a talent issue. NS gets more consistent results because they’re just a better coached football team. I think you switch the head coaches and SC wins this game by close to 20 points with some of the offensive deficiencies NS has this year. Probably get to see this game again in a couple of months in CE King’s stadium. -

I am checking with a district HC... He thinks its net points with a max of 18.... Gotta determine if its for two spots do you pull a team out and revert or once you go points do you stay pts -

Old Kenny Xbox did it again. He knows just how to prepare for North Shore. This offense continues to struggle. Thank goodness the defense is so good. -

Silsbee has now won 8 straight and 10 of the last 11 vs. Jasper. Coach Randy Smith stays undefeated against Jasper. Jasper still seeking their first win over the Tigers since 2014. Overall series now 43-39-2, Jasper. -

Destroy is not the word I would use. I believe they can beat Lumberton, but it will have to be the same way they beat LCM. Vidor is a completely different animal. They will have to win a high scoring game to beat them. -

Beaumont Bowl next week is very meaningful for playoff seeding now. 🍿 Going to be paying attention to that one. One thing I didn't hear about during the week is the district tiebreaker scenarios.... @ThaGhost did you get any info on that? -

I really believed WO-S was the better team and would prevail in this one. Thanks Mustangs for making me look good. (even though I missed on 10 games this week in pickems. ouch) Congrats to Coach H and his staff on a great 2nd half (28-0). Defense shined and the offense took over on the ground. Coach Trahan with some nice play calls. Great win!

I had a local coach (whose team has played both of these teams) tell me a couple of weeks ago that this one may be a showdown of the best two teams in SETX. After getting absolutely punched in the mouth, the team comes out after halftime and proceeds to dismantle the Longhorns. If you know a thing about this sport, you know what it is when a team completely flips the script and dominates in the 2H. Almost always coaching. I’ve said this many times, WOS won’t likely have a coach anywhere near Dan Ray or Cornel the rest of our lives and probably ever. It’s insane how lucky they were to have them back to back. And in my book, CT is probably the 1-1 of Southeast Texas football coaches based on what he did as the DC under Hooks and as the HC when he retired. He was hugely responsible for all of their rings. You just aren’t going to get that again. Kalen DeBoers could be the best coach in the game right now and he still wouldn't be Nick Saban. Hickman is a first time HC that you would expect to make mistakes. Maybe a lot of them. But you also hope that he would steadily improve and take advantage of one of the unique football situations in the State. He obviously has. Consistently. It’s fine to appreciate the past and take pride in all that was accomplished. It’s also high time to move and appreciate what you have now, which is still among the elite programs in the state.

FINAL — Vidor 63 at Lumberton 34 — Discussion
Dirtyred1969 replied to SETXsports's topic in High School Football
Looks like coaching and not making the right changes on the fly, put Lumberton in a bad situation. To go from being a close game at the beginning of the 4th quarter to Vidor just annihilating them in the last 11 minutes, just unacceptable. Great job on Vidor's part and good game. -
