Two State champs in each conference???? Did I read that correctly? OMG!!
If that happens they may as well play UIL games at the local YMCA's! They already allow way too many teams in the playoffs, and we all know who they did that for.... ::) ::)

The two state champs is for football only and it has been that way for a number of years. The difference comes with the big school/small school districts for 3A. Normally you go big school small school once you get in the playoffs. Now schools with similar enrollment a will be in a district together. Once again, these new districts are for football only. Basketball and baseball districts will not be based on enrollment. Now 4 teams in the playoffs will effect basketball and baseball next year.

Come on man...That 4th place playoff spot was designed SPECIFICALLY for the PNG's, the Orangefield's, the Bridge City's, and the LCM's of the world...The UIL was sick of seeing the same "inner city" schools in the playoffs and Johnny Suburb had to only watch...Now...EVERYBODY gets a ribbon! (in the playoffs) ::) ::) ::) Dove is right...Its WATERED DOWN the playoffs in football and basketball...How many 4th place teams WON the region? ZERO. Its just another oppurtunity for the schools to purchase shirts that say "PLAYOFFS" ::) ::)...Sickening... >:(

Last season, the Celtics finished fourth and yet had a 3-2 lead on the Heat in the Eastern Conference finals.

Trust me, I'm the last guy who wants to give everyone a blue ribbon. I think 4 is too many. When I was in school, only 2 went. Back then, WOS won district/state in FB nearly every year and Lincoln did the same in Bball. That meant only one other district teams plays in post season. There was always at least one good team left out. I support 3 teams advancing.

just waters down the importance of district play.  "back in the day" 2 teams advanced from district.  You also had 1 State Champion per classification.  Are schools not going to hang banners in the gym "4th place district 21-3a 2016"?  buy that patch for my lettermans jacket.

You guys must be youngsters.....In the real "back in the day" only one team went to the playoffs in everything.....You didn't play your way into the playoffs---you won your way in...

did you have lights or play during the day on the school yard?  the "good ol days".

DV you need to realize FOOTBALL is #1 in Texas. Always has and always will be. If anything, the UIL watered it down so that "inner city" FOOTBALL teams would have a prayer, instead of watching the (ahem) Johnny Suburbs team win state championships after state championship, while the inner city folks could only helplessly sit and watch. Basketball is no more than an afterthought. LOL.  ;)
