Yates impact on 3a

Recommended Posts

I don't understand how Yates could fall to 3a yea they have a great squad but they should not be able to recruit from the entire city of houston. When the young man from Silsbee came from Irving to play I heard the district had to vote on if he could play or not (if I heard correctly), but it seems that Silsbee cannot catch a break in their pursuit of a state title, if Yates doesn't move to 3a I would pick Silsbee to win it all but the tigers will never back down from Yates.

I think the numbers Yates have, and the fact that many of the Houston schools tend to specialize in a certain sport,  greatly reduces the chances of a SETX  team getting to the "Big Dance". The kids in those area  have greater opportunity to compete and develop their basketball skills on a year-round basis. There is only one area team that I believe has the Houston-type talent to compete with anyone, and it's located North of Silsbee.

I highlighted a few of their games. Silsbee's JV also beat Jasper's JV last year by 15, and Silsbee's JV wasn't that good.

Maybe Jasper got several transfers in for this up coming season. ;) ::)

WOW! Jasper fans must be living in la-la land
Or they are receiving the Yates over flow.
HJ will have to deal with the over flow more so than Jasper in the coming months.

How so?  Isnt there only one chance that either HJ or Jasper would play Yates?
Nash, we've gone over this a hundred times. We all know HJ will be in the playoffs vying for that coveted 2nd spot. Prolonging the match between HJ & JY. Personally , I never heard of Jasper basketball until last year when their coach left.

Yes the 21-3A district champ would see Yates in the 3rd round (quarterfinals) and the 21-3A 3rd place would see Yates in the 2nd round (Area). But let's not forget about who the 21-3A runner up would face earlier on in the playoffs. Houston Jones, another HISD 4A team that dropped down and who made the Region III 4A finals last season (lost to Yates), would meet the 21-3A runner up in the 3rd round (Quarterfinals). Houston Jones is in the same district as Yates along with all the other HISD schools who dropped down to 3A.

Point being, there are lot's of teams to be concerned about regardless of how you finish in district.
