Question of the day: Which SE Texas footballl program.....

Recommended Posts

The answer to your question is: it depends.

1) If you go strictly by the names listed in the multiple choices: The answer is a tie between West Orange-Stark (1986, 1987, 1988, 2000) and Newton (1974, 1998, 2004, 2005) with 4 state title appearances;

2) If you are talking about schools that were the same school but underwent a name change: The answer is Port Arthur Jefferson with 5.  While PA Jefferson made the state championship game only once (1980), the same school, under the name Port Arthur High, advanced to the state championship game 4 times (1928 1929, 1944, 1957).

No. Two entirely different schools.
PA High School and Jefferson HS are the same because PA High School just changed names, never shut down or combined schools...Also the case with PN HS and PNG HS. No merger occurred, just added the other city that had been going there all along.

In fact, the UIL state archive now lists the teams of 1953-55 "Port Neches-Groves"
