Correct.  Nick Saban wasn’t beating Carthage with that WOS team.

I once heard Coach Hooks cussing Coach Crouch over some play-calling through walkie talkie in the post-Rita showdown with BC when Deion Beasley was a Sr, Little Earl a Jr, and BF had Johnny Dishon.  You couldn’t have found a comedy show in the country funnier than the tirade Dan Ray went on.

I had a local coach (whose team has played both of these teams) tell me a couple of weeks ago that this one may be a showdown of the best two teams in SETX.  After getting absolutely punched in the mouth, the team comes out after halftime and proceeds to dismantle the Longhorns.  If you know a thing about this sport, you know what it is when a team completely flips the script and dominates in the 2H.  Almost always coaching.  
 

I’ve said this many times, WOS won’t likely have a coach anywhere near Dan Ray or Cornel the rest of our lives and probably ever.  It’s insane how lucky they were to have them back to back.   And in my book, CT is probably the 1-1 of Southeast Texas football coaches based on what he did as the DC under Hooks and as the HC when he retired.  He was hugely responsible for all of their rings.  You just aren’t going to get that again.  Kalen DeBoers could be the best coach in the game right now and he still wouldn't be Nick Saban. 
 

Hickman is a first time HC that you would expect to make mistakes.  Maybe a lot of them.  But you also hope that he would steadily improve and take advantage of one of the unique football situations in the State.  He obviously has.  Consistently.  
 

It’s fine to appreciate the past and take pride in all that was accomplished.  It’s also high time to move and appreciate what you have now, which is still among the elite programs in the state.

If you heard Coach Hooks cuss anyone, you are rare. I was doing my student coaching that year and the worst thing I ever heard him say was "Dang it!"

Congrats to Coach H and his staff on a great 2nd half (28-0). Defense shined and the offense took over on the ground. Coach Trahan with some nice play calls.

But this win is theirs. As i said earlier this week. H hadn't won in HF. Check another obstacle/milestone off the list. Keep on going. We're not done yet.

The discipline still has to improve, though. But, was better last night.

Edge pressure is everything. Especially in the 50 and especially with our athletes. They brought it in the second half and it changed the game.

Okay, we were in the visitors stands below some of the assistant coaches including Crouch. Maybe it was cleaner aspersions (such as dumb a, etc) and definitely wasn’t vulgar.  But the undressing he gave him over the walkies after a few play calls he didn’t love was hilarious. It was a very entertaining game with not a lot of fans there and that was by far the highlight to me.  Hooks has hysterical.

Its pretty clear to me Coach Hickman could walk on water and a portion of the WOS fan base would find fault in it...

He is not Hooks or CT, nor should he be...he has to be himself and I do feel like he has grown tremendously as a HC the past couple of yrs...great comeback win for WOS
