That’s not really “ties to the program” Surratt was at LCM at one point. Does that make him have “ties” to the program not really.

Well, to be honest, I think that conversation has already been had.  Here's what I think has happened:  The SLC coach called Joseph to give him a heads up on what he's planning.  Once the official word was out, I think, possibly, the Principal, Superintendent, or a board member placed a call to Joseph.  In addition to the previously mentioned, another possibility:  Dragon boosters/fans have been in contact with him.  Going to get "real" interesting!

SLC is a great opportunity no doubt, but I think Jeff Joseph knows he has the opportunity to create his OWN legacy at PNG, while SLC will always be associated with Dodge!!  Not to mention, the fact he’s building a championship program from the ground up with HOMEGROWN athletes, especially in 5A or 6A, is just another thing that sets him apart and will define his legacy because it’s VERY difficult to do these days!

But — if he wants to get into 6A there’s not a better opportunity than now!  
PS — I did hear they added the Athletic Directors job to the previous head coach September 2024.  So…

You definitely "hope/wish" he is trying to build his "OWN" legacy at PNG. If he goes to SLC and wins big his "legacy" will take care of itself.

There's always a chance.  But, their individual preference is hard to figure out.  The Aledo coach never moved up.  The Carthage coach hasn't yet moved up to college.  T. Dodge never moved to a college assistants position.  Went to NTS as HC with disastrous results.  Although Doug Ethridge could have been Lamar's HC.  He never made the college move at any position.  Ronnie Thompson did at UT for a little while.  Don't think Joseph's Dad was ever at the college level.  So, not really sure about the son Joseph's desires.  But, no doubt he's capable.
