Money Talks

Let's look at it like this...correct me if I'm wrong; Newton was the last state champ from setx some 10 years ago. Why is that? The rest of the state has left setx in the dust when it comes to facilities, coaching, and anything else along those lines. When Newton and WOS were forced to practice in a gym because of rain, Gilmer and Waskom were practicing on turf or in an indoor. While WOS and Newton pay their head coaches 85k and 70k a year, respectively, Gilmer and Waskom are paying theirs 120k and 85k, respectively. They're called PRIORITIES. Until that changes, setx will not win another state title. You can take that to the bank. Ever heard the ole addage "wins can be bought?" It's very true.

Hey even I didnt wanna believe it before for a long time but you're right on several points though. Heck just look up north and point to Gilmer and Carthage: and they're small school programs. You could probably throw Navasota into that mix as well.

I like our chances vs you saying we will never win another title.

Build some state of the art facilities and pay your coaches more and I can promise you yall will win a bunch of titles. The team that beat yall out a few years back, Cameron Yoe, has the nicest 3A facilities in the state. Oh and I'm pretty sure they pay Rhodes 100k

Absolutely throw Navasota in that mix

Money and facilities are 2 tools (among others) that schools use to recruit kids and families.

If a school isn't recruiting (somehow drawing in players) then 2 things are happening.

1. They are losing their kids to schools that do recruit.
2. They are losing.

There are a lot of ways you can recruit.

Sending double digit student athletes to college is another one.

I agree with the fact that new facilities and schools are a deciding factor if a family is moving and looking for a school that their kids will attend.
I don't agree that you can't win a title without all the bells and whistles.

You could win one 10-15 years ago without all the bells and whistles..you can't anymore. IMO

I wish that was true for BH. We have a butt load of money, nice facilities, and about to break ground on an 80 yard indoor practice facility. We haven't been to the playoffs in two years. Maybe we're the exception to the rule.

Need to start playing those athletes more over there, are yall getting a new HC soon over there?

Problem with BH is those ugly arse uniforms   :P

BH's problem is that KP is better than BH and doing what BH does. They have better athletes and maybe even more means than BH. BH might be in trouble for a while. All this growth is supposed to be happening but how many of those families actually have to athletes BH needs to win?

The 8th grade seems solid, so maybe a little help is coming. Most BH growth is the younger kids (elementary age). You will see the increase in a couple years. I was told 8th grade lost to Northshore by 15 points in track the other. I don't if that's good or not, but sounds like we might a little speed coming up, but who knows.

Hard to judge talent based on what they do in younger years. Very well may be a solid 8th grade group...relative to other 8th grade groups. The problem is that when they get to high school they aren't playing other kids just in their respective grade. They're playing against the combination of 4 different grades. Plus...there is so much that changes. District alignments, strength development (of them and their opponents), move ins, coaching changes....

That's what gets people in trouble. "Well we were so good in JH I don't know what happened"

Um...a lot of things happened.

Hopefully it works out. Good luck.

BH wins in the younger age groups because of how much they put into it. You won't find many middle school track teams with 5-7 coaches, most have one or two. In youth football BH parents are all in which helps the immediate product on the field. Once they get to high school where that stuff matters less the teams with better athletes start beating BH. The 8th graders you speak of are a prime example. Our 8th graders beat south but lost to north, they also beat Dayton who beat them both. BH wins because they run a user friendly offense for that age group whereas the Crosby and Dayton kids are already throwing the ball 20-30 times per game at that age. This makes our qb throw picks, fumble shotgun snaps and play action fakes, take sacks for holding onto the ball and receivers running the wrong routes, etc.

The difference is that three years later BH is still running the same user friendly offense that much easier to stop because nothing as changed, but the other qbs are much more dangerous now that they're not making the same mistakes as years prior due to the emphasis being on teaching at the younger ages vs just trying to get the W. Now the receivers don't run the wrong routes and the qb doesn't throw picks on Friday's which exposes BH's deficiencies that were covered up at the youth levels. Not to mention the kids have seen the dive play for several years by then and are more adept at stopping it. Until BH increases in enrollment or switches philosophies I don't see much changing for them in this district.

    • Hold them accountable? Like here in Texas where we have, by any definition, the most conservative Speaker that we’ve ever had. He pushed through an abortion ban and border security measures, reduced school taxes, etc… and the people who put him in office are firing him for not being MAGA enough.    Every third commercial on TV is Trump (or somebody who supports Trump) calling Phelan a RINO and supporting an impotent replacement for the most powerful person in the House.    It’s 100% MAGA, and it’s 12000% stupid.    “oh, he didn’t do those things by himself” says everyone who doesn’t understand parliamentary procedure.
    • @bullets13 not sure why it double posted the topic.. delete this one plz sir
    • Me personally I respect posters like @bullets13 @CardinalBacker they vote for a guy and can call out others in the party or the direction a party can be headed.... others on here fall "lockstep" with whatever happens and defend by all means is the mantra it seems... no need to call out names, it's probably you if your mad at this statement 🤣
    • I recall prior to midterms the R's and the "red wave" would get America "back on track" etc.... they would end this and stop Biden from that blah blah blah, so what's the problem? It looks like a circus show from both sides and whoever can sit or stand with a straight face and defend it is a 🤡! Desantis would've been a slam dunk for the R's and he possibly would've got my vote... now they pick a guy who lost the popular vote twice lol (yeah I know that means nothing in grand scheme of things).. point being is the dude is highly unlikeable (I also know this doesn't matter) 👈🏾 just getting ahead of the deflectors... personally I hope the clown gets in there so ppl can see how ultra right the clown is trying to push America for... IF he wins in November you can bet he will be on a rampage for 4 years getting lil if anything done, will most likely spend his term for the same thing some of yall complain about daily, going after his opponents... but hey the D's do it right? So yeah it's cool if we do it SMH We're supposed to vote on policies etc while at the same time the person you vote for that made promises to change or fix this and that complains about his predecessor being the issue! It's all a joke What have R's done that's good for America since midterms?  What have D's done? And please leave your feelings out of this and be truthful if possible!
