Bigdog Posted October 21, 2014 Report Posted October 21, 2014 :Sigh : So you want to put more weight on a non-district game vs a district game? Dayton has two losses in district games where they were the underdog. Ned has no losses in district and just beat teams where they were a large underdog, according to most of the board. Sounds like 2012 all over again. :)
Guest Posted October 21, 2014 Report Posted October 21, 2014 Who cares about these rankings anyways? They don't mean anything... Seriously
AggiesAreWe Posted October 21, 2014 Report Posted October 21, 2014 Who cares about these rankings anyways? They don't mean anything... Seriously I care, along with the 9 others (used to be 10) who vote in these rankings. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother doing them. But I get your point.

bullets13 Posted October 21, 2014 Report Posted October 21, 2014 The thing about these rankings is that you're voting for teams from different districts over different classifications to pick the top 10, and you have 10 different voters with 10 different criteria. As long as teams remain undefeated, it's pretty easy to get a reasonable ranking for them based on SOS, and If that's similar then on common results. The problem is when you get down into the middle and bottom, where you have several teams with 2,3,4 losses. You have teams who've beaten teams that have beaten teams who beat the first team. You have teams that are .500 that have won 4 straight, and teams that are 5-2 that have lost two straight. You have teams that beat another team at the beginning of the year, but now that team is playing much better football. you have 6-2 teams that have played easy schedules, and 3-4 teams that have played incredibly difficult schedules. And you have 10 guys who have to decide how to rank each team. This poll will never be perfect. But it offers a reasonable and objective ranking of our local teams. It gives us a place to debate and discuss results and hypotheticals. The polls will never be exactly right in the eyes of every reader. And that's okay. Just enjoy it for what it is.

TxHoops Posted October 21, 2014 Report Posted October 21, 2014 These rankings are fun to look at and debate once they are out. But they are just that. For fun. They have no bearing on who makes the playoffs or at what seed. Thankfully, Texas HS football is settled on the field and we have even gone overboard (IMO) to make sure everyone has a shot. Having said that, obviously these polls don't even necessarily tell you who the voters think would win certain matchups. Case in point: WOS. I am sure at least some (if not a majority) of the voters think WOS would beat any of the teams ranked ahead of them. But WOS has 2 losses and those teams are undefeated. Until they are beaten on the field, you give them the top spots.
Cougtalk Posted October 23, 2014 Report Posted October 23, 2014 you have no point they lost this week they go down its that simple. So if Ole miss was to lose to miss. St. They should go up in the polls because miss. St is number 1.. smh your point is invalid I think the better example is LSU with multiple losses against top flight teams is ranked #24 because of caliber of opponent. So yes if a team where 4-3 and lost to #1 #2 #3 and beat #4 i have a feeling they'd have a decent ranking. I don't think Dayton should be ranked higher than Nederland i just think they should be right behind them. Regardless this is a little like treating ACC wins the same as SEC wins they are different and 21-5a is just a simply better district there are 6 teams in 21-5a that could compete for a playoff spot in 22-5a and only 2 or 3 the other way around.
GATA! Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 Newton now has taking down #1 and #2 !!!! EaglesFootball 1
kicker Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 This is where I see it. 1.Hardin Jefferson 2.East Chambers 3.Huffman Hargrave 4.Newton 5.WOS 6.Coldspring Oakhurst 7.Kirbyville 8.Corigan Camden 9.Jasper 10.Orangefield 11.Buna 12.LCM Could maybe swap 2 and 3. Newton makes a big jump but they deserve it. I do think WOS beats them if they play again but they deserve to be ahead of WOS. I believe 8,9 and 10 can swap places at any time. Hated to put Buna at 11 but 1-10 I believe are better than them at this moment. LCM gets the last spot with their up and down season.....
texas13 Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 1. Huffman-hargrave 2. Hardin Jefferson 3. East Chambers 4.coldspring 4. Wos 6. Newton (even though they beat wos) 7. Kirbyville 8. Jasper 9. Buna 10. Corrigan-Camden 11. Lcm 12. Orangefield 12. Kountze(had to throw em in there) Corrigan could be higher, but I was let down by their performance against newton

tvc184 Posted October 26, 2014 Report Posted October 26, 2014 Big changes in the polls this week. And maybe next week also. Lots of crunch time games.
OleMoe Posted October 26, 2014 Report Posted October 26, 2014 1. Huffman-hargrave 2. Hardin Jefferson 3. East Chambers 4.coldspring 4. Wos 6. Newton (even though they beat wos) 7. Kirbyville 8. bullets13 Posted October 27, 2014 Report Posted October 27, 2014 Who's going to take down Ec ? i wouldn't place anything as a guarantee amongst the top 3 in that district, but i'd say Kirbyville has at least an even money chance of doing it.
texas13 Posted October 27, 2014 Report Posted October 27, 2014 If there was a team that would give Newton a good game again it would be WOS.But with the one game being played and Newton winning it and and taking down your #1 team and taking down your #2 team this weekend I find your picks bias.I suppose after WOS takes down HJ they will be put in front of Newton also along with EC after they get took down. We will be playing when most of these teams are playing round ball.Newton hasn't played Huffman or hj what are you talking about
wackpack Posted October 27, 2014 Report Posted October 27, 2014 Newton hasn't played Huffman or hj what are you talking aboutcatus post. Talk about confusing ... Lol
tvc184 Posted October 27, 2014 Report Posted October 27, 2014 Newton hasn't played Huffman or hj what are you talking about Theory? :D
OleMoe Posted October 27, 2014 Report Posted October 27, 2014 I see WOS beating HJ.. Kirbyville beating EC. Where does that put the poll. We will see.
