Both teams saw Livingston ace in Lantrip...... BC lost 5-0, Silsbee won 5-2.  That is a guy that throws upper 80's to 90

Silsbee did see Crain and Gunstream in the first game and then Crain and Permenter in the second.  Crain was touted as the ace of Orangefield pitching staff last season, have not seen Braxton throw this season but last time I saw him both he and Crain had pretty close to the same stuff.  Crain just came from the left side.

For that matter Silsbee had 9 hits against BC ace in Guidry.  BC had only 3 hits in whole game.  One of those was a costly 3 run HR.  Silsbee ended the first matchup against BC with 11 hits to BC 3.  With both aces starting......

Okay, here we go.

1. The Livingston game has no bearing on the initial response to what Silsbee has done in district unless they have been bumped to 21-3A recently.

2. I believe I said Silsbee had not seen Smith or Gunstream, never said anything about Crain. You and I both know this year Smith has been the #1 with Gunstream next. Just look at how OF set up their pitching for next week, the 2 games they have to win. And by the way I was wrong about Gunstream not throwing against the Tigers, my bad. Upon further review Gunstream threw 3.1 innings against Silsbee allowing 2 hits and no runs so take that for what it's worth.

3. Point taken and acknowledged on seeing Duplant.

4. I won't even bring up the pre-season results on the LCM tourney where BC's #4 threw 60 pitches total in a 5 inning complete game victory. OOPS!

5. It's still hard to argue if you look at it objectively that so far through district Silsbee has benefitted from the schedule. BC has seen, in order, Clark (Buna), Powell (Silsbee), Herring(HF), A. Anderson(WOS), Edelmon(HJ), Smith(OF), and Clark(Buna).  Of course this is just an opinion and we all know what those are worth.

And yes Glad, regardless of our opinion or debate you are still my buddy! No questions about that.

Sorry I forgot to add 1 thing, these 2 above are not even close according to the radar gun. For whatever that's worth and for arguments sake I guess.

So who is considered Buna's ace? I have seen most of their games and I'm not sure who our ace is. Several arm issues on the team.
If you have seen most of their games, what order do you place the Buna pitchers?

I know Kelly has been out with arm problems but not sure of the rest....

At the beginning of the year I would have said Kolton Clark , Glenn Patrick and Kelly with Joe Clark being the change of speed guy. But J. Clark is our best strike thrower keeping hitters off speed and Raydon Taylor has been a very welcomed addition to the staff. Still don't know pecking order though

Silsbee has scored 10, 19, 12, and 15 runs in last 4 games (avg. of 14 runs a game). Given up 11 runs (2.75 per game)

Tigers have scored 80 runs in their 7 district games (11.4 per game). This leads 21-3A.

I agree, Silsbee has the best lineup in the district, more kids have good swings than any other lineup I have seen, and I have seen them all.  But let's be honest about this, most (a lot) of those run rules have been scored as a result of defensive errors.  Now I credit the silsbee bats with putting the ball in play with force, force that created forced errors, but I also know from 2 games I have seen: silsbee vs Buna, and Wo-s that both losing teams had numerous defensive chances to stay in the ball game.  Admittedly, Silsbee does seem to be a little out of of everyone's league across the board athletically, and shouldnt they be with the enrollment numbers year after year.  Schools like BC and even Buna and OF to a degree represent themselves nicely in my opinion with nearly 1/2 the athletes to choose from.  BC definitely has the edge right now on pitching development and silsbee does have the bats which makes for the obvious great match up. Buna will not dazzle you with pitching right now, but they will fight till the end, their bats have been lively at times, but not consistantly, and the defense has yet to form an identity, boys have been playing all over the field.  I think they will figure it out.  Sure silsbee is the favorite, but by no means untouchable as some have suggested, they may want to be careful before they just start overlooking teams.......like Buna.

Boxscore for the Buna/Silsbee and WO-S/Silsbee:

                    R      H      E
Buna              0      4      2
Silsbee          11    8      0

5 innings

                    R      H      E
WO-S          2      3      1
Silsbee        12      9      2

5 innings

Not sure that 2 and 1 errors in those games created most of those runs. ::)

Also, in regards to enrollment of Bridge City and Silsbee. BC's is 775, Silsbee 825. That does not compute to BC having half the athletes as Silsbee. ;)

BTW, I don't see anywhere that Silsbee is looking past Buna.

if you are correct about the enrollment of BC, then I just had bad information, I thought they were 500 range,(my Bad)
Buna is just over 400, I think they bulged last year at 420
I was told OF is in about the same as Buna, but I am not sure by any means?
If 825 is right for silsbee then I see your point of BC / Silsbee being close to equals, last number I saw on silsbee  was mid 900's I thought.  Regardless, I compliment you guys with the quality of athletes you have year in and year out!!! I figured it might come off as a whiner comment, I was just trying to give cuddos to smaller schools for being competitive.

The boxscore for Buna/silsbee is just wrong.  There were 3 errors at first base that night that each runner scored there after
There were 2 errors in RF, one dropped ball, and one ball that just landed in outfield(lost in lights or not picked up off bat)catchable ball that was hit very well that ended up I am sure as a 2 run triple.  There were two balls hit that were legit hits to left field that on paper aren't errors:  but one should have been sent straight to second for a good chance at and out, and another to home that any decent catch/throw would have caught the runner at home.  Plays that in my opinion Silsbee's defense could make as well as Buna's defense normally.  There was a PB/Wp that brought runner home, and third strike/questionable hit by pitch that brought another runner home.  One of those nights where it seemed nothing went right.  Buna had defensive opportunities to stay in the game and just didnt.  Silsbee played much better ball that night and wins regardless in my opinion.  They had plenty of clean hits to do that, I just don't think they score as much as they did without the defensive help provided by buna.

Silsbee vs WO-S, again about the same story, at one point it was 6-3, and then the wheels came off.  No doubt about it, silsbee was stroking the ball, but it doesn't get out of hand, if Defense made more of routine plays that they are capable of doing.  I didnt keep track like I did in Buna game, but in the last couple of innings, there were several passballs/wp that runners advanced on, not throwing ahead runners to put a stop to them, not hitting cutoffs, misplaying flyballs.......so on and so forth.

Again, silsbee by all means earned their victories ....  when you hit the ball hard, good things will eventually happen.  They are swinging it well.  More impressive to me is Silsbee has limited their opponents to so few runs.

Not trying to get an argument started on what are recordable errors or not, but when a ball is hit to the gap, there is not  a defense for it and you will go far if you have a bunch of those.  But when they are hit to boys with gloves and arms, then there is a chance to make plays.  There is no defense for walks, that I know about and mental mistake are preventable.
