  1. Sterling vs. Central Dayton vs. Friendswood Kashmere vs. LC-M Jones vs. Vidor Lumberton vs. Bridge City Silsbee vs. PN-G Ozen vs. Seguin
  2. But who is doing the overrating? I haven't seen anything that rates Lumberton as anything other than a bottom of the pack team. Not in the statewide predictions, not in the coaches polls, not in fan polls, etc. Their fans are excited but so are the fans from all the teams. Most people think Central is going to win 22-4A and that is not just Jag fans but fans across the district. If they do not have a good season, they will have been overrated. I don't see anyone jumping on the Lumberton bandwagon other than their own fans and I suspect that most of them on this board are parents of players or the players themselves. When a team's own fans think they will do well, in my opinion that is not being overrated. That is being good fans.
  3. Quite the opposite of venom, I think it is funny. You started a forum so that you could let everyone know your thoughts on Nederland. No big deal on that but you wanted someone else to start the ball rolling. Seven posts into the thread and no one has come up with any teams, especially the one you wanted to start the thread about. So now you are stuck with doing it yourself. My curiosity is just where is Nederland overrated. Before the season most people (probably around 98%) have said that Central would win the district and Nederland probably be in the playoffs as either the second or third place team. Going three weeks into the season, I see exactly the same responses. Central is still predicted by almost everyone to win the district with Nederland having a good shot at the playoffs, either second or third place. Nothing has changed. Your own post says "Nederland is a good team that most likely will make the playoffs". You mention that after the Forest Brook game, people think Nederland is better than they are. Figure this, here are some of the predictions on the FB game in this forum: 41-12, 42-14, 51-0, 42-14, 42-7, 42-10, 42-0, 35-7. Yep, I can see where Nederland did much better against FB than expect. Obviously that is being sarcastic since those pre-game predicitons looked right on target. So if Nederland before the season was predicted to be in the playoffs, after two games the predictions remain the same, they played against FB about as expected and your own post says that they are a good team and will likely be in the playoffs, where is the overrating?
  4. It hardly looks like an opinion of the reporter. Tom Halliburton quotes the coach and quarterback as saying the visor caused problems both in fatigue and vision. It sounds more like reporting rather than an opinion or editorial.
  5. Maybe he said it and maybe he didn't. Having dealt with witnesses a few thousand times in my life and career (and in very stressful situations)' date=' sometimes things are not as reported and it does not have to do with the witness lying. You can have three people witness something at the same time and same place and report three different versions of an incident, including statements that they heard. What if the paramedic, in response to a request for a prognosis, said something like, "there is always the possibility that [b']you will never walk again but you will probably be okay". All that Driver heard was "you will never walk again". Those exact words would have been spoken. It just happens that it was not the entire statement and it was taken out of context. A kid is strapped down on a stretcher, in pain and scared to death and all he heard is the “never walk again†part. He isn't lying about what he heard, he just didn't hear the whole statement. You could probably never convince him that he didn't hear it that way. Would you blame Driver if that is all that he heard? But also, would you blame the paramedic without knowing exactly what was said? I am not a medic, I do not know any of them personally and I have no idea who the medic on the chopper was, so I am not defending their profession or his potential actions. I do know that under stress, we hear or see things that are easily taken out of context and misreported. I would think of that possibility before getting too twisted about an incident that may not have occurred at all.
  6. Going into the third week of the season, Lumberton is still undefeated. Go Raiders!
  7. With Nederland's kicking game problems, it might be 28-25.
  8. You've got to start somewhere. I would rather win against anyone to start with a new coach than to lose against anyone. You don't end a losing tradition by losing another game but playing it close and calling it a moral victory.
  9. You would think they took Bears and combined it with Mojo. So Bears Mojo is BOJO. I guess that would be too simple so they had to figure out an acronym for it.
  10. It is always hard to judge a program trying to get off to a new start. A new coach always brings high hopes and new enthusiasm so maybe Lumberton can make some progress this year and play competitive football. If they can keep it close, then they have a chance to pull off an upset or two. If they can pull off a couple of upsets, then it is possible to..... No matter what else, there should be new life pumped into the Raiders' faithful this year. Time will tell if they can do something with it. I think they will play some good football at times and make some games interesting. I don't think they are ready to challenge for a playoff spot just yet.
  11. Never say never. I bet there are a lot of LaMarque fans that thought Nederland would never stay in the game, especially without LaMarque committing a bunch of turnovers.
  12. I saw it on CNN's home page. The video is still up at the moment under the title "Coach decks kid during football game".
  13. Look again. The polls don't say PN-G will make the playoffs. PN-G is listed under Central, Nederland, Ozen and Dayton. That makes them 5th in the district not in the top three. All the poll says is that in the opinion of the staff, the top 5 teams in 22-4A would beat Barbers Hill. I would agree with that opinion at this point.
  14. WO-S in a cakewalk, maybe 42-14-ish. And rah-rah is a shortened version of hoorah-hoorah and has been around for almost as long as football. Old fashioned maybe but a lot of teams use or have used it.
  15. I think slim only because of the district. Lumberton could see a significant improvement and make a serious run at the playoffs and still not get there. Imagine having to play Dayton, PN-G, Central, Ozen and Nederland in a 7 week period. Then toss in games with Vidor and LC-M who might also be making big improvements in their programs. That is a tough way for Lumberton to try to build some type of solid run at the playoffs. I think their best bet might be after next year and hope for a better UIL realignment but I wouldn't hold my breath. The way the UIL does this area and with PA Memorial losing attendance, in two years we might see Memorial added as a 9th team to the district.
