  1. Bellows hurt his ankle or knee and is out but don't know how long. Grogan is also out. Nederland's backup quarterback and backup running back go on a long drive and Nederland scores. Nederland 28-14
  2. 21-14 Nederland. Grogan has a 100 yard kickoff return for a touchdown and a 95 yard run from scrimmage for a touchdown.
  3. King goes up 14-0 in the first quarter on 2 Nederland turnovers. Nederland runs the second kickoff back for a touchdown to make it 14-7. Nederland then gets and onside kick, 2 first downs and is now at the King 6 yard line.
  4. We had about a 7 to 1 doe to buck ratio and were way overcrowded with does. I can't imagine a 10-1. Y'all need to kill some does in a serious way. It usually takes 3.5 years to get their horns outside of the ears. If you start with nothing but fawn bucks, within three years you will have quality deer. If you have a few 1.5 year old bucks then within two years you will start seeing some good ones. That is what we did and it is a fairly fast process. There is no point killing spikes except for meat and if they want the meat, start busting those overcrowded does. In Tyler County where I hunt you can get two does without permits and we used that limit very successfully in management.
  5. Throw in about 5 more wins against Nederland in that time frame and many of the PNG fans would be happy with Burnett's record.
  6. When there were three teams in the playoffs, the small school division went the same number of games as both division now in the 4 team system. If you cut it to a 2 team per district playoff with a single state champion, it will still be the same number of games as a 4 team with two divisions. If we want to argue watered down playoffs then go for it but it is really reaching to say that there shouldn't be more teams as it will increase the chance of playing in bad weather or that it will risk injuries. If we are that worried about injuries, why not cut out the two scrimmages? Why not drop one of the non-district games? Why not just put dresses on them and not even play football?
  7. Yep. The area around Jasper is notorious for killing deer underage. Many in that area are the ones that go by the "if it's brown, it's down" rule. It is amazing how good the deer herd looks when you let they grow to at least their third year of life. If you want deer sausage, kill a couple of does. I still talk to people in east Texas that thinks it is a tragedy to kill any does and thinks that a huge doe population is the answer to a great deer herd. In truth that is what kills most deer herds from ever reaching their potential. I have talked to both state and private biologists and every one has said the same thing. Before you worry about planting food plots, before you worry about managing the soil and before you worry about cull bucks you need to kill does and let the bucks grow. That alone will vastly improve deer hunting. Now to convince the neanderthal hunters of that fact. About six years ago when I started on my current lease we have a 6 point or better rule. Don't ask me why. About four years ago we started managing it but it is only about a 900 acre lease in between other large leases. Could it be successful? We started by killing lots of does (I think we have killed about 36 in the last two years alone) and letting the bucks grow up. A very good one was killed about five days ago and this is one that showed up a couple of days ago at a feeder. We have had our hunters spot a couple more that are better but we don't have pictures of them. It seems that the days of our small 6 pointers are over. I don't see how that happened with us killing all the does off.... said with the utmost sarcasm.
  8. I'm not arguing for the watered down playoffs but to suggest that the length of the season, cold weather or injuries has anything negative to do with 4 teams in the playoffs is ridiculous.
  9. HAHAHAHA!!! Filing charges by a local police department is one thing. Getting charges accept by the DA for a fight and prosecuting is another thing entirely. I will believe charges will be filed and accepted when I see it.
  10. That is probably true already. Bonfires are great. Damaging other people's property in the name of school spirit is not. I don't see how you equate destroying someone elses property or messing up their tradition with deciding to stay home and play a video game. In this case, it looks it would have been better if they stayed home and played the video.
  11. Wow! The once mighty La Marque has fallen to 3-6? No wonder we aren't getting the LM posters this year on the boards. The team that will always be in the playoffs, isn't. I guess the "whoosh" didn't work this season. Interesting that the year LM breaks their playoff string is the year that 4A goes to four playoff teams.
  12. Kids doing damage to other school's property is spirit and tradition? I went to school over 30 years ago but I must have missed that part of tradition.
  13. That was it? He got ejected for making a chopping motion with his hands? I thought maybe he flipped off the home crowd or something. It was still in poor taste but nothing but elation. I have seen a couple of players stand in front of the opponent's side and do similar and not get flagged. Maybe they just got away with it.
  14. Maybe but I can't imagine that scenario. If they told/asked him and he obvioulsy said "no", then they would be suffering more than a one game suspension. If my boss told me directly not to do something and I did it anyway, I would likely be fired. Well in this case, the coach is the boss. If he made direct contact with them about it beforehand and they went anyway, shame on them. Again, I would have a hard time believing that it happened that way but there have been stranger things happen.
  15. Yep and the punishment is not that if it had been an illegal act. They aren't being fined, they won't do jail time and they won't be placed on house arrest. They are being put in time out and not getting to play a game that they love to play for one day. Seems fitting. I hope that Neumann doesn't get so much pressure as to change his mind. Then it would look weak and like they can get away with mistakes if they are stars. What a great message that would send.
  16. Yeah, that would be real punishment, have them sit out a few plays. Neumann did the right thing. Yeah they are teens and yes they made a dumb silly mistake. The mistake wasn't wanting to have fun, the mistake was putting their own selfish interests above that of the team that they were supposed to be committed to. If the mistake was only on them then it would be different. Maybe if they skipped a class or something that was not against the team but that wasn't it. They hurt the entire team for their own interests. It does not send much of a message to others that the penalty for an abuse of fellow teammates and the disrespect to both the coaches and other players is to sit out a quarter or two. I firmly believe that it is their right to go to the NBA game even when it is a slap in the face of the team. It is also the right for the coach to put them in their place by a punishment fitting the crime. I think the punishment fits the crime. If they get mad and want to quit then so be it. Don't let the door hit you on the way out. If they decide to come back and apologize to their teamates and coaches and make amends, then let's put it in the past, have a group hug and move on with our lives. The choice, as was the last one, is theirs to make. Let's hope they man up to learn a lesson by admitting their mistakes and taking responsibility.
  17. I "think" that he was ejected after being called for a second unsportsmanlike penalty. I thought that both of them were after touchdowns and had to do with the celebration afterward.
  18. Maybe that was a prophetic statement by him..... as things are likely to start getting bad.
  19. This is not just a rumor but is fact. Matt Burnett has risked his coaching career and an outright district championship and possibly a run at the state title so that he could keep certain kids on the bench. Now that he has managed to risk his career, give up the playoffs (not to mention the outright championship), lose to Nederland (again) and a trip to the state championship game, he has nothing else to lose so he will show what he has been holding back. I am thinking about 68 - 14 PNG over Central as these college talent players will vent the frustration of the entire Indian Nation and wipe the floor of the new stadium with Jag blood. Another fact is that I have the Brooklyn Bridge and it is for sale at a bargain price. Email me for serious inquiries only.
  20. Tough decisions don't bring in talent unless they are out recruiting.
  21. Yep. The liberal loons now have control of both houses and the presidency. We will all have to give up our guns and tofu will be mandated as the only protein allowed. By the way, I just bought an AK47 online about 30 minutes ago. I will probably order a couple of thousand more rounds of ammo in a day or so.
  22. Just the opposite at our lease in east Texas. They are almost avoiding the feeders. I think Ike knocked down most of the acorn crop early but it will be used up quickly.... I hope.
