  1. Hmmm ... seems like despite the "size of their team" (which WILL be brought up by multiple posters I'm sure : ), looks to me like St. Thomas fields some darn good athletes. Should be interesting. It should be a great one to watch. GO PIRATES!!!
  2. I'm not making any predictions on my Pirates this year game to game. I believe we got a good group of kids that will perform well on the field despite what the fans and haters alike say on these boards. I'll let them handle business on the field and I'll cheer them on. GO PIRATES!!!
  3. Exactly. A good coach doesn't coddle his players. I bet that kid dreaded going into the locker room at halftime. A good coach shows instant disapproval at the first sign of wrong doing. Better to nip it in the bud now, not wait until district when the game start counting and your players are still committing stupid penalties.
  4. I get that. But we didn't prepare for their offense or defense either. That still speaks volumes to our boys that they are progressing. Also, not one of those WO-S kids went home on that bus saying "Aw, it's just a scrimmage. I don't have anything to worry about. I was good enough." Not if they want to put on that silver helmet they didn't. Not trying to get in a war of words here with you, so this will be my last say: Maybe to the coaches it is nothing. But anytime any of these kids take the field, it means everything. That is why I think you can compare scrimmages ... from the teams' perspectives.
  5. It matters to the team. If they played no role, why play them at all? Just practice your offense against your own defense. And it may not have mattered to Hooks and company beforehand ... but if they didn't take some things away from that scrimmage to work on, well, I'll give you a million dollars that I don't have. But by the way, it does matter to the kids. It is a confidence builder before season play.
  6. Coop explain this for me please? Are you saying that Vidor is not as good as you thought? Or WOS is better than you thought? Help me with this. ??? From what I've seen in some of Coop's earlier posts, when WO-S loses a scrimmage then it no longer matters ... so much for building of the team, technique, offensive playcalling, defensive playcalling, tweaking of routes, etc... I think scrimmages are important for ALL of this. What do you think, Pirate For Life?
  7. Lots, eh? Then you won't have any trouble recalling which plays, right? I hope that you are not from Kelly. The last thing the Bulldogs need is sore-loser fans.
  8. I knew it. You don't count the Jags out just because a coach leaves. Good job, Jags. Looking forward to district. Hope you win them all except, well, ... you know.
  9. Whoa!! Is this true? Can someone corroborate this statement? Well, yes and no. It wasn't the whole game and was mostly just the student section (that I can speak of) that I heard. I believe it happened in the middle of the fourth right after Jake Travis put us up 42-21. But yes, a chant did start up in the Kelly student section. "F you Vidor!" clap clap clapclapclap. "F you Vidor!" clap clap clapclapclap. Their intended message was loud and clear.
  10. I got you, KB, altough that can pretty much be said for any quarterback who is given time to throw. What I didn't understand was the people already making excuses because of the age of the players, etc... Those are some big guys you have. I don't think they have any reason to hang their heads. They played well on the line the first half. We just wore them down in the second, but that is what we do against any team we play that hopefully we beat ... ground and pound and keep their offense off the field. Kelly has no reason to hang their heads. I was real impressed with you guys. Good luck the rest of your season.
  11. Man, I hate to hear this. When I heard rumors that he might not play at all this year early this summer, I didn't know how Ned would look. But when I heard he was coming back (and he was the best QB in 20-4A last year guys, admit it) I picked Nederland to win district on another thread. Man that sucks. Take care of yourself, kid. I know it's tough watching your team from the sidelines, but right now you need to worry about you. God speed and prayers from us over here in the swamp.
  12. Maybe now. But that is why you play pre-district. And playing a passing team like Kelly will get them better prepared for teams like Nederland. Sorry, bassman, but that is what the predistrict and scrimmages are about. And for those saying Vidor had trouble with the pass, I didn't see one touchdown through the air except for the one botched pass in the first quarter. After we started blitzing, Eddins threw incomplete a lot more than completions ... especially when they were in a pass situation. And the penalties called on two of the pass plays should not have been called as the ball was ten feet over the receiver's head and therefore uncatchable. The ball does still have to be able to be caught right? One of them was sailing out of bounds even. Maybe someone changed the rules when I wasn't looking... The only thing I can say to that for the Vidor players to improve is this: When a QB is throwing right into your hands, CATCH THE BALL! Don't just knock it down! ;D But hey, first real game jitters. Two more games to work the bugs out. And for those of you making excuses, Kelly has some big ol' boys on that line. Don't start discrediting them. They are going to tear some of their regular opponents a new you-know-what once the games start counting. Actually, they were starting to heat up in the fourth. Forced the Bulldogs to go three and out on their first fourth quarter possession and on their second possession (also their final), Rico and Runnells ran down Eddins in the backfield for a 20-yard loss. If we can force them to have to throw, then everyone will be "singing our defenses' praises" quite possibly. (Of course I'm being facicious with all you haters out there. ) One game does not a season make.
  13. I should have said that a turnaround that drastic isn't the norm. Thanks for pointing that out. I do see you guys making a turnaround though. I met your coach and he seems like a great guy. But I don't think I'd hold my breath for a playoff record under a brand new coach's system from last year's. Best of luck though ... except when you play us or Central.
  14. I thought that earlier this summer as well, when the rumor was that Bellows was not going to play and focus only on baseball. But with the best QB in 20-4A coming back? No way they are left out. Plus I believe Lovelace (sp?) will be bruising it up like their running back (his name escapes me at the moment -- was it Grogan?) did last year. Expect the same look from the Bulldogs this year. And, while PN-G may look better under their new coach, no one goes from zero to hero in one year. I see PN-G getting 4 wins or so in route to building up a strong program again though. (And before you Indian faithful say we have pulled a zero to hero this year, compare our records last year. Vidor has built up to this year off last year's program.)
  15. While I hope Vidor does it, I see Nederland in the top spot this year. I'm glad we are coming in strong this year, but Nederland I have to say brings a winning program to the table year in and year out not. That is what Vidor needs to strive for, and not just a winning program every once in a blue moon. I didn't agree with the Dave Campbell ranking. Even told BmtSoulja1 so in a phone conversation. I think we are actually a good second or third place contender this year ... which will be great. Teams like Nederland seem to breed success every year and I think will take the district crown this year. I see it like this: 1. Nederland 2. Vidor 3. Central 4. Lumberton And before some other Vidor fans start calling me a hater, just look at our program logically. Although I do hope that they prove me wrong and Dave Campbell right. But I'll have to play the Doubting Thomas card until I actually see them do it. I just want to see them make playoffs.
  16. :D Must be trying to grab some advertising dollars in Silsbee.
  17. Funny ... that is basically what we kept hearing from Lumberton fans about the Raiders last year. ;D
  18. :D Oh my God, that is great! Karma to you for funniest post I've seen in awhile. But if excuses start flying around in district, just remember, you said it ... I didn't! ;D
  19. With LC-M putting together a good program, the Vidor vs. LC-M matchup for Orange County bragging rights in 20-4A could also get interesting.
  20. It will be interesting to see how LC-M looks with Crouch at the helm. Hopefully bad against us of course, ;D but I hope that they do have a good showing this year. The kids deserve a decent program over there in North Orange. Personally, I miss the days of us playing WO-S and Bridge City in 4A competition every year as well. I hope that all Orange County teams make people sit up and take notice this year.
  21. Hey Aggie, what type of offense is LC-M running? Spread, with a little I thrown in sometimes. Thanks.
  22. After the Vidor vs. WO-S scrimmage thread, I'd have to say that the craziest rivalry is: Vidor fans vs. the Coops ;D ;D (It's just a joke guys. Don't block me! )
