1. Elam and Holmes were a dynamic guard tandem last year.  Hopefully someone is stepping up to take Holmes spot on the court.  I only saw two games last season, three actually, but the first didn't count cause the best players were in the football playoffs.  I saw the game against Kashmere at Kashmere.  Lots of memories, kashmere gardens, and trinity gardens are like second home towns.  I saw the playoff game against Kashmere in Baytown.  I didn't know there were fights in the stands until the next day.  Elam is quick as a snake, Holmes was too. And, I saw the game against Yates in Huntsville.  I've already said enough about that game. I enjoy watch Chris Elam play. With his senior leadership the Tigers should be a force in both football and basketball.
2. This was just La Grange's year.  They smoked that team from Texarkana in the championship game, and won state.
3. Silsbee was in control when I left, in the 5th inning I think.  Diboll's baseball team may be a team of destiny this year.  From what I've heard and even seen a bit, they have an uncanny way of fighting back and overcoming the odds.  That's the sign of a mentally tough team.  Silsbee's good, very good.  If they can take two straight from Diboll-well, I don't know.  Silsbee defintely got their work cut out for them.
4. According to the map that is the softball field I just mentioned.  The baseball field is not far away at the corner of cullen and elgin.
5. I'm usually no where near this msg board this time of year.  I may go to this game though.  The only baseball field on U of H campus I know of is adjacent to Scott street, not too far from Popeye's chicken, lol.  If that's not it then I'm lost.  I'll find it though.
6.
Also Damien Bush of Silsbee have 32pts 10steals 11assists and 7rebs when Silsbee beat Lincoln back in 94 at the Beehive.
I saw Damian Bush and Silsbee play Lincoln is 95.  If Silsbee could of gotten by PA that year that would of won state.  Silsbee had these two stocky 6'5" post players.  I wonder what happened to them?  Lincoln had Steve Jackson in is jr year, just before he transferred to Oak Hill.
7. Wheatley won that game, but it wasn't a blow out.  They won state that year.
8. Back in '73 I saw this guard for Houston Sterling, named Kenny (I forgot his last name) go up against Wheatley in the playoffs.  The game was at Hofeinz Pavilion.  Legendary Wheatley Coach Jackie Carr considered that '73 Wheatley team his best ever.  They were like 43-1 that year.  Nobody gave Sterling a chance.  Everyone at the game was there to see this great Wheatley team. Kenny had some mad handles.  He consistently broke the famous Wheatley press.  Dude was dribbling behind his back, between his legs, etc..  Then he would come down, shoot a 15 footer with all kinds of hands in his face.  He would double clutch the shot and kiss it off the glass.  He did this several times. He scored almost 40 pts.  Wheatley could not stop him.  When he wasn't scoring Kenny kept setting up his big man for easy lay ups under the rim.  His big man was this big 6'5" Italian guy named Lee Canalito.  Canalito is somewhat famous.  He's a big time trainer in Houston.  If you don't believe me, look him up.  I think Canalito had something like 20 pts and 15 rebounds in that game.  Canalito went on the act in some Sly Stallone movies.  He was also an undefeated heavyweight boxer, 21-0. Kenny the guard got a basketball scholarship to Sam Houston State.  Sadly he was shot and killed while allegedly breaking into someone's home in Huntsville, Tx.  They had a big write up about it in the Houston papers.  Just the same, that was the greatest single game performance I've ever seen in high school basketball.
9. So, is Justin Harper from Kountze related to Willaim Harper who played for Silsbee a few years ago?
10. That happened here in Texas a few years ago, at the 5A title game.  Kid playing for a San Antonio team hit a long buzzer beater.  One can only imagine how good 'life' was for him the rest of that school year.
11. Up until maybe 15-20 years ago aau and summer league teams weren't allowed by the UIL.  The argument was heard that now allowing aau stuff was hurting the overall basketball talent coming out of Texas.  The rules were changed, aau, summer leagues were allowed. The end result is the recruiting and free agency stuff we have now.

There's another Holmes, Sidney III, who is a So. Jordan's younger brother I'm sure.  Does he play football and basketball?  I get those two mixed up.  they look a lot alike.
Sidney plays all three sports, football, basketball and baseball.
The poetry of it all.  Sidney SR took his kids to all the games back in the day.

14. Kappas, Sigmas, Omegas, Alphas..perhaps there are others I am not aware of.  No disrespect if there are.
15. kappa alpha psi  or something like that.
16. Those warm-up  games they played in Fort Worth didn't mean anything.  I thought Kennedale would do something, but they got blown out by Wylie.  If I remember correctly D Mad. lost a game then too.
17.

Silsbee should of beat Yates and could of beat them if homes are elam was on.. Next year will use 409 reffs...
Man, don't start that crap.  We lost - it got away from us in the last half of the 4th quarter.  We had our chance and that's all you get in the playoffs.  The referee reference?  Where are you going with that? ::) 8)
I've said this before.  It could of been different if Silsbee had an outside game, and accuracy at the free line.  I said that earlier in the season, and it was evident during the game, especially in the 4th quarter.  Yates didn't want to run with Silsbee so they slowed down and packed it in.  Smart move.  They dared Silsbee to beat them from the outside and they couldn't.
18. I see other people saw the same things I saw.  They need to learn how to shoot.  Running, pressing that's fine and good.  But they need to teach those young people how to shoot a jump shot, and how to shoot free throws.  A  short to medium height team that has 4 or 5 players that can dribble, run, and also stop and pop a jump shot can beat a team like Yates.  If all you do is drive in you're playing into their hand. Little dribblers should hire a fundamentals coach.  This coach should be able to teach the kiddos the fine art of shooting a finger touch jump shot.  I also think Silsbee would get better experience by entering some of those Houston tournaments.  That would be better exposure than that tournament in Sherman, Tx.
19. I saw three Silsbee Tiger games this season: the 1st Kashmere game @ Kashmere.  I saw the 2nd Kashmere game in Baytown, and I saw the game against Yates last night.  I saw Yates play twice, against HJ and then against Silsbee.  I mentioned all that because I seldom go to games.  Before this the last Silsbee game I went to was at Mt Belvieu against Cleveland I believe.  I mostly keep up with the Tigers via this forum. The Tigers were very quick, a pressing, running,  scrapping team.  I hope they can replace those guards who are leaving.  I wish I could of watched Holmes and Elam play football.  Yates?  Maybe I'll put more effort into watching them play next season.  After all I live in Houston.  Johnson gymnasium is very nice.  They always play the region III finals there, but I never go because the games are on Saturdays, and that's a no no for practicing seventh day adventists.  That's a whole different topic there, but it factors in for me.  I think I said it before, but if not great basketball season Silsbee Tigers.
20. Well I got to see this season's Silsbee Tigers at full strength.  They are/were very impressive at what they do and that is running.  Good back courts, quick as snakes, and I mean that in a good way.  What they are not good at, and what killed them was shooting free throws, and shooting jump shots in general.  Not only is there outside game missing, they missed too many close in shots and lay ups. Silsbee would of had to play the perfect game to beat Yates tonight.  Yates had the better team.  I see no reason to hate on JY.  I hope they go all the way. p.s. Yates' band and cheer group was very entertaining as well.
21. Good man, well liked.  Like a God?  Your concept of God is limited. Changing the topic.  How did you and 'Dick Vitale' get from Houston to SeTXsports?  Mostly locals know and care about golden triangle teams, and talent scouts.
22. Dang, how many McKelvey's they got in Trinity Gardens?  There's been a McKelvey on Kashmere's basketball team every year for the past 40 years, or so it seems.
23. I've only been to three games this year.  I saw Silsbee vs. Kashmere @ Kashmere earlier in the season.  I saw Yates @ HJ Thursday night. And I saw the Silsbee vs Kashmere playoff game last night.  I normally don't attend games on Friday nights, but I wanted to see what the real Silsbee team looked like.  Elam and Holmes are the real deal, the whole team actually. #1 for Kashmere has a nice jump shot, a nice 3 pt shot.  I like watching team that can run and shoot.  # 23 is a good player as well.  Those two were the ones that did the Tigers in during that 1st game. Yates? They're as athletic as I've ever seen.  They remind me of those old Wheatley teams.  Silsbee has the advantage in the back court.  If they are going to win they will have to press, trap and run, but they know that.  If they get tired, and Yates starts breakin that trap lookout!  It could get ugly.  If the Lord and Proverbs 27:1 say the same I'm putting in to get off work at 4:00pm Tuesday, so I can get to that game.  My supervisor is a Yates alum.  Should be interesting.
