  1. Do they take the top 10 national score regardless of player rating? My understanding is that you had to be highly touted to be invited to The Opening which is why Chatman beat Sheffield's score but Sheffield still got the opening invite. I don't think there was a kid rated below 4 stars that has been there the last couple of years. They do test to determine the SPARQ national chamion but most of the camp is 7 on 7, 1 on 1's and position drills. Can you post a link to the top 10 thing you said? The only kids I figured could qualify from around here were Thompson, Locke and maybe Kam Martin next year?

That's correct. Sparq ratings are awesome achievements, but getting an Opening invite has more to do with on the field performance. PJ Locke, Kam, Rodney Randle, Dillon Sterling and Corey Dauphine stood out during competition. They have a really good shot at making it to The Opening.
  2. Deunte Chatman of Summer Creek and PJ Locke of Beaumont Central are one of the few SETX players that are participating in the NIKE training camp in Houston on April 6,2014 at Kinkaid School. Some of the top high school players in Houston and Louisiana will be in attendance

SETX will have more than a few players there.
    Dillon Sterling-Cole
    Trey Spencer
    Johnny Shaw
    Deionte Thompson
    Kam Martin
    Corey Dauphine

ALL from SETX. Those are just the ones that come to mind.
  3. 4A D I and 4A DII are separated by enrollments from now on. For example, the new district that WOS is in is comprised of ALL DII schools in football. Therefore, the 4 top teams from that district will go to the playoffs in DII.

    Did I explain that correctly?
  4. So running backs and LB's? So if you out dual your man they rank you according to beating the ones at that camp? Hmmmmm.... I tried to get my son in that one but was too late and found out he had to be nominated by his coach or something like that.

Yes. Running backs and LBs as well. It's pretty much based upon competition. Check out rivals.com and read some of the evaluations under RCS Houston and it will give you an idea of what goes on at the camp.
  5. Year after year the Mustangs meet up with a team who is bigger and stronger in the trenches and they get beat in the playoffs. The lack of size on the defensive front will continue to be their down fall. Until they can match up with the big ugly's, I don't see a state championship coming back to Orange.

I can agree with that to an extent. Navasota was an incredibly talented team top to bottom. Carthage was very good as well. When you look at their enrollment compared to that of WOS, you will see why they were bigger and deeper. WOS played Division 1 teams in the playoffs last year. And the argument could be made that had we been in division 2 we would have made it to state. This year WOS will play teams with identical enrollment. That, in some instances, will level the playing field. Not predicting they will make it to state, but this year they have a better chance than they've had in a long time.
  6. Wow! I'm very proud to say I'm from the Golden Triangle. We were WELL represented in Houston today. So much talent had people buzzing about our area.

    Sage Seay
    Rodney Randle
    C.J. Levine
    Courey Dauphine (excuse the spelling)
    Dillon Sterling-Cole
    P.J. Locke
    Deionte Thompson
    Kameron Martin

We were definitely in the house. Great showing guys!
If I forgot someone, let me know.
  7. VNUPE, I was looking at a prospective list of district alignments that came out before the official UIL release this month. That list had WO-S in the same region with all the other teams I listed. Sorry for that. On paper, LaMarque is the biggest concern from our region. Even with that said, I never want to be overconfident because as the season progresses so many things can change - injuries, flunking grades, game killing turnovers, opponents becoming better than expected, etc. There is always a couple of teams that nobody expected to be strong who develop into good teams and then you have to face them come playoff time. I refute the "we're a shoe in to win state" mindset. Always respect your opponent, factor in the unexpected, and remember these are 15, 16, and 17 year old kids.

Chuck, where did I miss the "H"?

I agree with you 100%.I just pray they all stay healthy. Because theyrreally have a great shot this year.
