Will Biden Be The Democratic Nominee For President?
1970 replied to Reagan's topic in Political Forum
He's with it enough to do what he's told, beginning day 1 when he signed the order to revoke the Keystone Pipeline project. But more recently, he's protecting the DOJ, as well as himself ... [Hidden Content] -
Interesting piece ... [Hidden Content] Texas Speaker Dade Phelan turned the tide to keep,an army of campaign staffers.

Thanks for the info, I didn't check the primary vote count. I was posing that, based on anecdotal evidence, many who did not vote in the primary showed up for the runoff, and apparently voted for Phelan. My next door neighbors were two that voted runoff only and voted for Covey, so it went both ways I guess. The Houston Chronicle posted quotes from Covey accusing many Dems of voting in the runoff. Obviously if they were able to vote in the runoff then they didn't vote in the primary, unless the voted in the Rep primary to begin with of course. . "Covey’s campaign released a lengthy statement after the results came in, calling Phelan an “Austin swamp creature and King of the Democrats.” The campaign accused Phelan of courting Democrat voters in Jefferson County to bolster his early vote numbers, but Covey did not say he would seek a recount." Anyway, it looks like it's a done deal, until November.

It's hard to say exactly what happened, other than it was Beaumont vs Orange and Jasper, basically. At least two voters were turned away while we were at the polls. One guy was in Jefferson County but not in District 21. I don't know about the other guy. Probably lots of voters that didn't vote in the primary voted in the runoff. Probably lots of Dems voted as well. It's a common thing. Lots of Reps voted in the Dem primary years ago just to vote against Hillary. Of course that sort of backfired and got Obama elected.

Looks like all charges have been dismissed. I'm not surprised.
-
Anyone here think the charges against Scheffler will be dropped? Who thinks that the charges should be dropped? The Louisville police aren't making a very good name for themselves.
-
We'll see.

He did? Thanks, I need to look at the results again; about 15 mins ago it was almost 50:50 (again). Anyway, I'm sure not going to miss the daily stack of postcards and fliers in my mailbox. Wow, I don't recall ever seeing anything like it. As far as Phelan, the runoff was his wake-up call I think. Of course this just means that he gets to run in the November election. Reportedly (per the Beaumont News, and perhaps Houston news as well), Democrats were cross-voting in the primary, in favor of Phelan. It ain't the first time. (I had to post this twice; what a drag. BTW I went and looked, and indeed, the race has been called in favor of DP.)

State Champion and Finalist from the area.

The '46 - '47 PNG teams lost 1 game in 2 seasons. The loss was to a Lake Charles LA team, and there was no way they were going to win that one, per my father in law, who played on those teams. He said that at the end of a qtr, if PNG had the ball, the refs would give Lake Charles possession. My father in law says that Coach McCollum was so angry that he called a practice for the next morning (on a Saturday). Anyway back then Regional was as far as they (PNG at least) could go; there was no state playoff, as bamatex says. -
I may be able and interested to watch this one. PNG spring game also charges $5, btw, reportedly it's really a donation of some sort, I don't really know, but it's ok.
-
I saw the same thing at PNG home games.

That's a mystery, but the reason may have been because he couldn't beat Nederland. I recall the local news articles back in the 60s and 70s, when Watson was PNG HC, read "always the bridesmaid, never the bride". Speaking of which, the next MCM should be interesting.

NON-DISTRICT OPPONENT 2024-25 THREAD/Post here
1970 replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in High School Football
I was driving on the 210 loop in Lake Charles early last August, before 2-a-days began for SETX high schools, and noticed the Lagrange HS team suited up in full pads on their field. And this was on a Sunday afternoon. -
Yep, that's what I heard last Thursday out at Babe Z.. Congrats, and best of luck to Mr. Rich, and to the Nederland Bulldogs.

Exactly right. PN Elementary, Ridgewood Elem, Woodcrest, Van Buren Elem, Old Groves Elem, all torn down now. Brand new or almost new elementary and middle schools in both Groves and PN. And when a couple of the new buildings weren't quite ready for the first day of school last fall, the sh*t hit the fan, if I recall right.
-
A non sequitur: When I left SETX in the 80s it seemed like lots of PNG folks were moving to Nederland. When I returned in the 2000s it seemed like folks were moving from Nederland to PNG. The two towns are like an amalgamated area, except for the school districts, and especially athletics.

Ha! I didn't say "school official", I said, (in quotes), "official". I wish I could say more, but anyway ... you'd be surprised, actually, who you see on the golf course some mornings.

I just now googled Splendora. It's in between Patton Village and Midline, south of Cleveland, in case anyone else besides me was wondering. It boasts a small restaurant called Puebloritaville that looks interesting. Looking at photos of the stadium there, the home side looks big enough to accommodate the PNG crowd, all they'll need to do is switch sides, for a decent payday for them.

This is what I heard yesterday, out at Babe Z. Golf Course, from a Nederland "official".

I saw this just this morning, after I had bought some shares of Chesapeake Energy. The stock price dropped some but then recovered later. Per an article in Barron's, the pause in permitting won't affect any projects that were going to come on line before 2027, and in fact could help local LNG players such as Cheniere. "Some analysts think that a plant delay could help some of the existing players in the industry. One of those is Cheniere Energy, which built the first U.S. LNG export facility and whose market share was threatened by an influx of competitors. “Current projects and operations are also not impacted, which means regulation could have the impact of slowing competitor supply growth in a period where Cheniere’s marketing arm could benefit from wider margins,” wrote Citi analyst Spiro Dounis." You know more about it than I do. It's an interesting case. Out of curiosity I read through the OSHA report dated 2022-04-19, and I think there's several folks that should be charged with negligence. But still, IMO, Baldwin was handed a gun, and he pointed it at people and pulled the trigger without first checking out the gun. Apparently it wasn't the first time. From the report: 19. On October 21, 2021, Dave Halls handed the 0.45 caliber Colt revolver, loaded with what he assumed were dummy rounds, to Alec Baldwin. Mr. Baldwin aimed the revolver toward Halyna Hutchins and Joel Souza and a projectile was fired, striking Ms. Hutchins and Mr. Souza. And ... g. Bulletin #1: Page 2, “1. Refrain from pointing a firearm at anyone… If it is absolutely necessary to do so on camera, consult the Property Master / or Armorer or other safety representative, such as the First A.D. / Stage Manager. Remember that any object at which you point a firearm could be destroyed.” (State of New Mexico Environment Department Occupational Health and Safety Bureau 525 Camino de los Marquez, Suite 3 Santa Fe NM 87505 Phone: (505) 476-8700 Fax: (505) 476-8734 Page 9 of 11) Failure to implement: Lane Luper stated that many camera shots had the firearms pointed and firing at the camera. Halyna Hutchins and Joel Souza were injured when a firearm was pointed in their direction, with Hutchins’ injury resulting in death. Rust management representative Dave Halls was present prior to and at the time the firearm discharged a live round, severely injuring two crew members. As Rust’s top-level management safety official, Mr. Halls did not consult with the Property Master or Armorer during or after the firearm was loaded, handed to the actor, and pointed toward crew members in order to determine that pointing the firearm at persons was “absolutely necessary.” h. Bulletin #1: Page 2, “11…firearms are to be loaded just before they are used in a scene.”
