It absolutely would matter if the parents lied about what the coach did, but in this case there is clear evidence of his wrongdoings. Please enlighten us on the situation around the kids so we can better understand your argument. I guarantee you those other parents would also be up in arms if their kids had to be hospitalized, just as I'm sure you would be if a coach put your kid in the hospital.

I do not know the strength & conditioning levels of hs kids these days, but whether or not they actually did that specific amount of push-ups is besides the point. The point is that kids had to be hospitalized for 10+ days because the coach made them do more reps than their bodies could physically handle.

Common sense tells me that the 15 year-olds that were hospitalized were probably not as strong and physically developed as the 16-17 year-olds doing the workout. Being a coach, you should know that not every kid has the exact same physiological makeup as the next, especially when looking at different age groups.
