Pump the brakes just a bit, BC played their worst game of the season against a good team that went 3-4 rounds deep in the playoffs last year. The strides they've made already are much greater than expected. The schedule is certainly not in the Cards favor but they will be competitive and have the potential for some more wins this year. Most folks would have bet against BC being .500 at this point before the season started so who knows where they end up.

2 of the best guys in the coaching profession, both on and off the field, on each sideline tonite. Both guys, Landry and Smalley are top notch and will continue to do great things for all their students.

Congrats to Coach Landry, his staff and the team on a great win! Well prepared and well conditioned team gets a well deserved “W”.

I have been following this thread for quite some time and finally decided to chime in so here goes...
As a personal friend of Coach Landry I am excited to see how he does on the football field. My son not only played for him but he also coached with him so I feel like I can give a somewhat educated opinion on what he brings to the table. I will be truly shocked if the BC football team is not much more prepared and in better shape compared to last years squad. If Landry runs the football program like he does the baseball program then it will get better because he does a great job of preparing his players for just about any situation. How many wins that translates to who knows, but they will be more competitive and disciplined without a doubt. I have had a couple of friends from other schools who have kids playing on teams that BC has already scrimmaged and they all commented that you could tell a difference from last year. Just like with the baseball teams Landry will focus on what they do best and adapt to that instead of trying to be something they are not built to be. I wish the entire program nothing but success and hope they have a good season.

Personally I will enjoy (BC football having some sort of success) to no end knowing that some on this thread who are ridiculously vocal about the perceived discrepancies between football and baseball at BC have to not only root for the baseball coach to have success but actually have to give him credit at some point. Only time will tell.

Great post. I hope he makes a difference and they surprise some teams this season. Just not versus us.
Good luck to you son too. The profession needs young men like him.

Both guys pitched against Vidor this season. Oceguera (Lamar commit) won the first time they played in district. Collins (U of H commit) pitched the second time in district and lost.

Just because a guy has “college commit” associated with their name doesn’t guarantee success every time out. We all know and understand that. It’s just baseball and sometimes things happen. That’s why we love the sport.

PLEASE!! Stop with the umpire talk, it’s a bad look. We got shut out twice, tip your hat to Huffman for coming to BC and getting the job done. It’s a proven fact if you can’t score you can’t win and that’s what happened. Congrats to Huffman, BC will regroup and be back at it next season.

Hands down OF is the deepest and best team in the district regardless of the standings. BC is probably 3rd overall but they will make it interesting with how they handle their staff for the rest of district play. If BC has any luck on their side and some of the other very good teams like Silsbee and OF either beat up on one another or have an off night BC may sneak up and surprise some folks. For the time being OF can be happy they more than likely don't see BC's #1 arm during district because that has the potential to be a coin flip if that happens. Even if OF see's BC's #1 they still have the edge because offensively they are just better. BC would certainly have a "puncher's chance" because good pitching has that effect.  BC has been down the last couple of years, especially offensively, so they are relying heavily on good pitching performances, scratching out a few hits, and solid defense until they can get some help from the younger classes coming up in the next couple of years. Until that time they will be vulnerable but certainly not out of the running.  This district is always so much fun to watch and will continue to be for quite some time. Great programs from top to bottom, period.

There are several folks who frequent this board that truly know the game of baseball and are great to have a discussion with and then there are folks who make comments like this one and few others in this thread.

Here are few things to think about.......
    1. There is no denying the rule in question that LCM called out BC on, it's in black and white, no dispute. What can be added to the conversation is that this practice of bringing up JV guys to the varsity game after they played their JV game is more common than most realize. It's happened for years. These guys occasionally get in the varsity game as pinch runners because if they were good enough to be an impact player they would be in the varsity lineup from the start. Next time you go to a varsity game take a look at the guys when they warm up, you can spot the ones who just got done playing. I'm not saying it happens every day but it happens more than most people know.
    2. Saying that a "coach got them" is a bad look. Regardless of whatever motive took place LCM gained nothing with the move, no district championship and a first round playoff exit. Bridge City forfeited the games in question and everybody moved on. At least most folks did.
    3. The statement concerning "mentality" and "that's how they are coached at BC" shows just exactly how out of touch some people are. The staff at BC is one of the top in the area and the program has arguably been one of the best in the area for quite some time. You don't build a program like that, send dozens of players to the collegiate level (and now pro - Jake Lemoine) by teaching guys to blame someone else, that's just a really weak statement, by someone with little to no knowledge of the BC program, that holds no truth whatsoever.

Umps didn't get them against Robinson, Chad Hollingsworth did. He was the Friday night guy for Univ of Texas. He was a good one.

The activities done during school time are subject to the hour per week rule.  Also the practice/scrimmage at 5pm was run by parents. No coaches were present, just like fall ball. Official practice started Friday just like everyone else.

Absolutely nobody wins in this situation, that’s the only thing I know to be true. The offending program will receive a just punishment of some sort according to rules which will in turn affect coaches and players in some way.  The program who anonymously reported the infraction will eventually be found out and they will suffer as well in the court of public opinion and with their relationships with other schools. If the report was done with some sort of malicious intent to gain advantage that school has done nothing but place a giant bullseye on their own back for the future.
In keeping with the “unwritten rules of baseball” that I personally hold so dear where the game polices itself, I wouldn’t be surprised if BC gets the chance that they score a few “extra runs” on the reporting program in the future either. If it was my team I would blow out a rotator cuff waving in runs from third every chance I got. Like the great line from the movie “Remember the Titans”......
    “Herman, leave no doubt!”

    A couple of honest observations.....

There isn’t any team in the area that is 100% completely clean. I’d be willing to bet a spare 100 bucks that if you put a clock on most any sport that they actually practice longer in a week than what UIL allows. That’s breaking rules but nobody really worries about it. Just like what’s going with BC, nobody worried about that until it meant they (the reporters) gained an advantage.
I am all for calling someone to task if they were “overusing” a kid by playing too many games. For example, pitching too many innings and jeopardizing their health. Calling up a kid from JV to run bases on occasion doesn’t do that in my mind despite what others may think. Before anyone piles on I understand there are rules and they are to be followed. I also understand that folks who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.
Lastly, for those who report anonymously.......
“what is done in the dark will always come to light”.

Eventually it will all come out and we will  find out if those who reported did so maliciously or in the true spirit of the rule.
    Respectfully,
    Rake1
