lol I can already tell this thread may equal the WOS-HJ thread in length!!!

I will say this, other than when was it, 2000, it seems LM has had our number in the playoffs.

Well we got beat. but not by 30 plus like you said.  Im sorry but I will disagree with you about East Texas Teams. LCM and Huffman both played with them. If our offense would have stepped up and caught balls Carthage would have lost. Jasper and Buna both beat east Texas teams. Maybe next year we can show you setx isn't  as bad as you have us out to be.

According to the folks on the Texas Downlow board, we are in for a big surprise... What worries me is that we have, essentially, had 2 bye weeks in a row. WE MUST find a way to elevate back to the same play and intensity we had against HJ. If we don't we WILL be in trouble.

Are you going to the game? It's going to be cold and Rainey I will be there. I'm hoping the coaching staff has them ready. But like you said last week no matter what the play call is you have to make that one work. there should be no excuse for not making positive yards. Our jv won district and I believe some of these kids could or should play in this game. it's time to get over the hump one and done is not good enough. what a better way to prove yourself to beat a team that everyone thinks that there going to beat you.

I have had the chance to see WOS in 5 games this year and in each one they have been penalized quite a bit, with seemingly most of them on offense.  Usually their offense can overcome these drive stoppers.  In the HJ game they were flagged 13 times for over 100 yards and twice last Friday they had the ball deep in HJ territory and both drives were pushed back from penalties and they were forced to punt.  I'm concerned that down the line in the playoffs they will meet up with a formidable opponent and need to get points every chance they get.  We all know that some games the scoring chances are limited and they need to be taken advantage of.  Is it just me being concerned or does anyone else feel that way too?

Based on the explanation given (where the ref who made the call didn't even know who was punting based on that explanation), I'm not surprised it wasn't touched. Based on past performance, they had no business calling a game of this magnitude.

I'll be the first to admit that at the beginning of the season, I saw that Tatum absolutely annihilated Newton and I thought, 'crap, the Hawks can go ahead and chalk this one up to a loss.' Then they don't lose up until the Tatum game, so I made the trip out there. I saw the opening kick off and just knew the Hawks were going to be in for a long night. Next thing I know, HJ is tied up with this "powerhouse" of a team, and that's when I really started to buy into these guys. At the same time, I saw that Newton was beating WO-S. That's when I knew HJ would have a shot. So, I blew the dust off of my SETXsports account and decided to see what everyone else was saying about the Tatum game. That week, an HJ vs. WO-S thread popped up. I think it's been highly anticipated, and I will admit that I drank the hypothetical 'kool-aid' at first and bought into the HJ is better than WO-S argument. Now, I don't think either team is going to get blown out. I've said it before - it WILL NOT surprise me to see either team win this game. I think if you truly believe that HJ will get "blown out," then you haven't seen the heart that these HJ kids have. They won't go down without a fight. I won't make a prediction because I honestly have no idea how this will play out. I've never seen Dallas really get pressured in the pocket, so I don't know how he'll respond to that. I've seen the HJ secondary play well, but not against someone as good as DT (although Tatum had some really good receivers). I know HJ is very good against the run, but I know they may be a man short who could be playing the pass. I know for a fact Dubois will have some stuff West-Orange has never seen before, and I hope it works well. As far as crow eating, I don't know that too many people on either side will have to swallow too much. I know of the few extremists on both sides that would if it is a close game. If HJ gets totally whipped, I'll certainly get my fair share! I just think a lot of people are underestimating HJ this year. I hope everyone plays to the best of their ability, and that there are no injuries during the game. For some of these kids, there is no college football and this is all they have. These Friday nights are the biggest stages they will ever see, and I hope none of it is taken away due to injury. Regardless of the outcome, HJ and WO-S are poised for deep playoff runs, and I think this game helps each of them prepare a little more. Good luck to West Orange. I hope it's one helluva game!

I don't know how good Carthage is this year. They have only won two games from what i can tell. Im sure there  district is tougher then ours. If we do play Carthage we will beat them for WOS!

I think WOS has something to prove here. Re-focused, taking no games for granted and finding no moral victories in defeat. Moral victories are a recipe for disaster, as we've seen. I believe we are still one of the top teams in the state. It's getting to be that time of year where they need to go out and prove it.

The REAL truth? 12-15 for 185 yds and 3 TD's in the first half tonight. 180 yds and a TD against RF despite running for his life all night and had essentially all of our offense! That's the only truth I know!

My objective opinion is that Will is an exceptional athlete. He did an outstanding job against PNG. A team who did not have the luxury of preparing for him. What I'm looking at is the ultimate goal. A state championship. We have had athletes in the past who try to do to much. Force passes when they shouldn't wait to long on passes they should throw and just generally, make bad decisions in paramount games as evidenced by 17 turnovers in 3 regional semi-final games. Dallas has taken his lumps, no doubt, but I think he will gain confidence and become a good decision maker and a good field general. I believe he can become a person who can manage the game. Most state champions today have QB's who do well at managing the game. They don't make mistakes and they don't turn the ball over. The Carthage QB last year was not the best athlete on the field, but he did a great job of managing the game and getting the ball to the people who can make plays. The same with the Navasota QB the year before. They played smart and distributed the ball. Peyton Manning is not the best athlete on the field and neither is Tom Brady, but they have the hardware to prove they are the best choice at QB.

None of the QB's of the last few yrs have gone into the latter part of the season with people still chattering about why they are at the position or giving others a shot. Apparently, Jack has earned a shot and any REAL Mustang fan should support that decision. I believe, when all is said and done, he'll be one of the best we've had. Some may like that, some may not, but it's my opinion. Best athlete on the field? Nope. Best choice for QB? I believe so and I believe, given time, he will prove it. So, that's my opinion, take it for what it's worth.

Thompson deserves respect. Period. And you have no clue about anything except for your hateful posts. Like I said, if you think you can do better then apply for the job. Obviously you know more about football then one of the winningest coaches in the history of Texas hs football. you are one of those people that are just going to be angry for the sake of being angry. Live a little and take that negative trash somewhere else!!

It's not to weed anyone out. It's to see who's paid the price and who hasn't. And they ALL know it's coming. It doesn't take a ton of effort to run a sub 10 min mile, but you can't sit around all year eating Snicker bars and sucking on Dr Pepper.

Here's my 2 cents, not that anyone cares! Hats off to a Newton team that played a great game Friday night and came away with a Win. Good luck the rest of the season to the Eagles.

Bedelmon, get a life! It's sad that the majority of your post are about WOS. I'm no genius, but I'd go out on a limb and say I doubt HJ or WOS are game planning for each other right now. It appears that you base the entire success of your Hawks on the October 31st game. News flash, win or lose that game will not determine a State Champion which you've already "claimed" for your beloved Hawks. Yes it may and most likely will have a district championship at stake, but you're all over the place with your comments. It appears you get a rise out of stirring the pot and in my opinion many of your comments just make you look ignorant, which I would assume isn't the case.

Kicker, does this surprise you? Plenty of people around this program with agendas. Amazingly, these terrible coaches have built the most successful program in texas history. Go figure.

Is it perfect? No. Show me a program that is.

Wow what passion everybody has for their teams it's amazing. I personally would like to discuss FACTS that are present. Culture on the field and before these young men step out on Friday nights, means a great deal as to the performance they will display on the field. The culture at WOS is second to none to any other HS football team in the area. I'm not saying that other teams do not have culture, however, tradition at WOS is strong, deep, and is practiced as early as when these young Stangs are in their pee wee leagues. At WOS its' a culture of community, and commitment that the parents, and coaches, instill verbally that VALUE is not only in the money that a person has , but in the effort that they bring to any project that they are involved in. Winning is tradition at WOS. With that said, WOS stands tall always have always will. The scores of games past and present speak for themselves, would have should have does not count, what truly matters is how motivated these young men are, and how prepared they will be to go out on Friday nights and complete their task.  Go Mustangs and coaches Best Luck to you!
