Here's the thing... they had a hall of fame coach in CT.  There was petition passed around to have him replaced because he was a "racist."  Then he retired.  Many in the community had already expressed a desire that the next HC at WOS be black.  Because, of course, some people wrongly believe that it's not racist to say "yeah, we're gonna hire a black dude this time."  By the time that the applicant list was released, there were only 13 applicants for the position of Head Coach of the winningest football program in Texas.  13.
Do you want to guess how many people applied for the last opening for a perennial loser like BC?
But don't take my word for it.

This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up How many of those 13 applicants weren't black?  Three or four by my math... and the reason is that EVERYBODY knew that the folks making the decisions in West Orange were going hire a black dude, no matter what... especially in light of the petition that they passed around to get rid of the best thing that ever happened to West Orange Football.
So you really shouldn't be too surprised when the people who follow the sport are delighting in the fact that the community/admin's racist ploy to hire "a coach that looks like us" has blown up in their faces.
My opinion?  WOS should have hired the best guy for the job (regardless of his/her skin color), but it was gonna be hard to find another Hall of Fame coach... and previously playing for one or even working as an assistant under one won't do the trick, as evidenced by the win/loss records of guys like Toby.
But you only have yourselves to blame for the mess you find yourselves in now.  Who knows?  Maybe if you hadn't been so overt in your branding CT a racist and then publicizing the fact that y'all didn't care if a coach was any good, just so long as he was black, you'd have gotten some decent candidates.  The public and the admin decided that some things were more important than winning, and they got what they asked for.

I agree that was a pretty ignorant post. But to be expected from that one.

We all want what's best for the kids and we all can agree this ain't it and they deserve better.. Pretty cut and dry no matter who's at the helm...

Cardinals played a great game. Sad to see the decline of the Mustang program.   The talent is there just not the direction.

Should have never hired Hickman. He has ruined the WOS dominance.  What a joke.

Needless to say....this coaching staff and superintendent have taken one of the top programs in the state and managed to ruin it in 2 short years. Time for them both to hit the road.

There were at least 2 that did. The majority of the staff saw this coming as well. They knew their days were numbered. If CT is getting pushed out, they didn't have a chance with the new AD. And many moved on to the next one. I think we have 2 that were kept. Not stayed.. kept. Come in and clear house and hire more people with no experience must be a proven method of success across the state. Now is that what Aledo, North Shore, China Spring, College Station, PNG... they all did that too? Well then I'm just another nobody with an opinion. But maybe those programs had success last year and this year? Amazing that they could lose a HOF coach and somehow continue. Or maybe we just don't have the athletes, facilities, budget, tradition, community support. Well they decided to kick most the communities wants and needs to the curb in the name of progress too.
So what's next. Invista just announced they will shut down production next year. Laying off 200-300 employees. This new plant will overlook the stadium and and completely stink with dangerous and noxious chemicals. That's why they wanted the gigantic vip area in the press box with multiple air filtration sytems. And the plant will only need 50 FT employees. Not the 5000 needed to build it. There's no influx of new families moving to WOS. It's been the opposite for 20 years. And now the one thing that we could hang our hat on is no longer there as a positive to entice new students. No more move ins. We had to hire a former player just to get his son on the field. Btw... he had no previous experience either. And I won't take the chance of libel/slander by saying any more about that.
This is not over. There will be more changes come spring to the makeup of the board that allowed this to happen. Mark my words that there are too many that find this entire situation from start to finish unacceptable.

I didn't expect this from you. CB maybe. You know that's not what I'm talking about.
Your guy could be looking like a genius right now. All he had to do was hold the wheel basically. The ship would've taken good care of him. If he would've done what he said the night he got the job handed to him on a silver and blue platter. He'd literally be the king of the town right now. It's not that anyone has a problem with his color or religion or family values. Or anything else. It's the changes made to the program that have negatively affected the student athletes. And their chances to continue their education at a higher level.

I looked again to see how far back we were last held to 6pts or less. Pre HH Era... it was the "called early game" at Nederland 2 years ago. Or as some say the "CT Covid game". Then all the way back to Giddings in 2011... CT's 1st year as HC.
For a District game... all the way back to 2002. PNG held us to 3 pts. But the defense pitched shutout #65 and we won 3-0

Even you understood the point of the post.
Bottom line is last week I talked about the point of no return still being so far away. I don't think so anymore. Alumni jumping the fence, being escorted off the sideline. Fans screaming at coaches after this mess of an ending. H started to grab a player who was talking to his fam... another WOS tradition. Then realized it was a bad idea with all the irate fans around. So he just stood there with arms crossed like I'll wait on u. But as more and more fans started giving him the business. He high tailed it out real quick.
The same HC that could be heard directing profanities to a player on the sideline early in the game. The same coach that didn't seem to eager to go check the injured Mustang on the field. Then after he did finally jog, yes he jogged out there. He stopped to grab a player by the facemask before getting to the injured player being tended to.
Priorities? Do we have them? What are they? Not teaching the basics on the field? Not teaching life lessons off the field? Kids that have no discipline? Coaches that kids can relate to? Molders and leaders of young men? Who thought it was a good idea? Who thought it would be this bad? Who thinks it can continue?

Hiawatha Hickman showed his true character after Silsbee handed him his butt. In true bad loser fashion he sent WOS to the  field house with 24 seconds left and did not send them to shake Silsbee's hand. Then, several players, having more integrity than their loser coach, returned to the field to shake hands with Silsbee, but, here comes Hickman's Lackeys, to collect them and send them to the field house. What a jerk. I told the school board last year, that this was going to happen. Hickman needs to go and Rickie Harris needs to go with him

They went back out to shake hands because our alumni went down there and made it happen. We show respect when we win and when we lose. The Mustang Way.
