agreed.  that being said, the potheads I've known in the past all drove high, and we see very few news articles about people who are high on pot crashing into and killing people, while we see articles daily about drunk drivers doing so.  but I'm certainly in favor of the same penalties for smoking and driving as there are for drinking and driving.  I'm not sure what kind of test they could implement for checking how high someone is, but the smell of burnt weed inside the car could be an automatic DUI.

Long over due.  Stop wasting time and resources on small amounts of Mary Jane.  Harris County DA Kim Ogg should have made this announcement on April 20 (420).

I will say Id rather take those willing to work hard from other countries and throw out all those that are born citizens who refuse to work and be a negative impact on our economy. Those are the people who need to starve so they can wake up.

Since our country is in record debt, and the left wants illegals to get Govt assistance, then every time we add an illegal on Govt assistance, we take an American off Govt assistance.  That way the debt is not increased, and since most on Govt assistance are on the left, I doubt they'll mind losing their Govt benefits.  Does that sound about right?

yep....the teachers have no chance of teaching these kids....due to parents, students, administration, and judges.....and that leads to good teachers leaving the profession....especially the special education sector.

I understand completely, as I also work closely with special education.  It's not only the parents that abuse it but the kids have learned how to abuse it as well.  It's the "give me something for nothing" mentality that I can't stand.

its funny you mention special education cause I work closely with special education.  You would be amazed at how many parents abuse this.  Its actually quite sad.

im against most government assistance period.  only extreme cases do I believe govt assistance should take place.

And that's the part that many don't get in this country.

Sane people wouldn't vote for Obama/Clinton.  Sane people wouldn't won't terrorist in our country. Sane people wouldn't want to murder babies.  Sane people wouldn't want people being slaves to the government.  Sane people wouldn't want illegal immigrants flooding into our country.  Sane people would know the difference between protest and rioting.  Sane people don't need play doh.  I could go on and on.
You have to have sanity before you can lose it.

 I said this in the initial topic yesterday.  Good/Great athletes can get away with alot and have lesser consequences than others from H.S. all the way to PROs.  and usually when their playing days are done for those athletes who had a checkered past they end up in prison, dead, or broke.  IF society(parents, family, coaches, etc) would have just done their part in  teaching/correcting/disciplining  the individual when they were young.....society has become about only caring about winning a game/championship/scholarship/money instead of doing the right thing and shifting or ricocheting the blame.  There are plenty of examples out there take your pick.   
All individuals(lcm and silsbee) in this situation should have consequences.  I dont necessarily agree with individuals whom defended themselves should get punished.

I would encourage the "adults" of Silsbee to try and ensure the whole point of the punishment is not missed.  Devon is young and has 2 more years of high school ball.  He is a good kid and is loved by many.  Human nature, and especially for kids, is that when you get put on a pedestal for so long, you begin to think you can do what you want. 
This thing has gone viral thanks to a guy from Orange who thought it a good idea to post the video clip all over social media.  Now I've seen it on Bleacher Report, etc.  Regardless, I believe this will be largely forgotten by the public in general 2 years from now when he graduates.  Assuming he learns and behaves the way he knows how to on the court.  When you are as supremely talented as he is, you don't need to do a dang thing but play to shine.  He has that advantage over 99 percent of the kids he will play at the high school level. 
Conversely, if this opportunity is taken to make him a martyr, the great benefit he can actually RECEIVE from this whole ordeal will be robbed from him.  He won't be as likely to learn anything from this and will be prone to think he is being mistreated.  That would be a HUGE disservice to Devon in my opinion.  Because if he doesn't take this experience and grow from it, and makes any similar mistakes in the future, he could be branded beyond repair and just about as bright a future as you will see around here in basketball will be wasted.  
So I beg the adults around him to help him understand what is to be GAINED from this and keep the focus where it should be.  He's a smart kid with a huge heart who has always been very coachable.  That inherently means he's also teachable.  Anyone with a dialogue with him should make sure that's exactly what happens with this.  

The kid messed up along with the others involved but the barbaric nature of his blow is what has people so stirred up. Accept the punishment and in my eyes your slate is clean. I was disgusted with what Michael Vick had done with the dog fighting, but the man stepped up took his lumps and to this day I remain a fan not only of the athlete but of the man he became. 
 

The UIL does not set the punishment anyway.  I don't care who you are, how good you are, but you pull some crap like that in a game, you should be done.  I have been a head coach before and if he was on my team and did that, he would have to move to play ball again.  There is no room for that in sports.  Just play the game,and let the scoreboard do the talking.

spotter in the booth for Tiger football when he and Coach Ted Tate would broadcast.
Funny story: He called me Jeff for almost 40 yrs (my name is not Jeff) thank goodness his daughter Betty Ann would sign my paycheck, or I never would have been able to cash it.

For everyone on here that is upset with this punishment put the shoe on the other foot! if that was your child then the punishment wouldn't be harsh enough. Im sure Devon is very apologetic for his actions and I respect him for giving his public apology but at some point kids have to realize that athletics are not mandatory but simply a reward for being a good student and a person of god character.  Hopefully he understands the magnitude and severity of his actions. Its better to understand that every action has a consequence now.
