Someone mentioned Forney containing Balls bigs!!! ::) He will be in foul trouble early.
You don't have a clue about what you are talking about! Forney has not fouled out of a game ALL season, and Kelvin Smith has only fouled out once (against Huntsville). Even if ONE of them does foul out, you forgot about our Freshman, Weisbrod, who can fill in for either one of them!!!
First off I never said anything about fouling out! What I said was foul trouble early which is worse than fouling out late!!! Point being that Forney would have trouble with the speed of Balls bigs. Turns out I was correct...Sort Of. Forney was injured and I was not aware of this when I posted that. Ended up that Smith got into foul trouble early and Ball went off in the second half. Coincedence? I think not. Great run Dogs.

No clear cut #1 in 20 4A. Livingston will be stout, but that offense will struggle deeper in the playoffs. Central might be a year away from another run to regionals. PNG returns alot, but Doty & Schexneider will be hard to replace. Nederland was young this year, very young and will probably be a year away from big things. Thats my playoff group, but no particular order. Ozen returns the best player, but they have no line and LCM looses Misters everything, Gonzo and Sonnier.
Ozen returns 3 on the line so what r u talking about ?
I will repeat Ozen returns the best player, but they have no line. Returning a bad OLine is not necessarily a good thing! ;) That's what I have been trying to impress upon us PNG fans that keep pointing out that we return several DB's. May not be a good thing!
i will say ozen still needs work but to say they have a bad o line after they put 42pts on yall's defensive is a wow statement, and yes green is a great player but no one does it by their self.
Putting up 42 on PNG's defense this past year was nothing to write home about!!! And I was there, Green spent all night on the run, making plays outside of the pocket because that Line was B A D bad. Spin it any way you want to, I think you will find that the rest of 20-4A will agree with me.

Top 5 Southeast Texas Senior Football Prospects
Not so much as a qb but as an overall football prospect, I could def. see Merka in the top 5. He'll have a good college career IMO.
I can agree with that. His size speed combo should afford him a chance to play somewhere on the field. As I have said before he could be like the Phillips kid from Waller several years back that played QB in HS, but switched to LB at TCU and had a very good career. -
Lamar vs. Sam Houston Predictions?

Similar issues with SFA, but the home crowd may be enough to get them by. I say LU in a squeeker and it all depends on who is going to the line late in the game!!! -

One thing I find interesting and a question that came to mind after I saw the TV story, "Where was THE Dad in all this?" I heard testimony or remarks from the Mom but........You say it doesn't matter and has no relevance? I say you bet your arse it does.
Says in the story that the Dad was none existent.

Silsbee's Johnson tranfers to Lamar

Anyone who thinks that JJ transfered because he was "above the program" is mistaken. The kid got homesick. It happens. He was just lucky enough to be able to come home and get a shot and it appears that he is trying to proove himself by example. -

I can think of several BEAUMONT AREA QB's that I saw last year that were better than Merka and I don't think I am alone with that assesment. -

I predict a route by SFA. SFA allways plays the best defense in the conference. They will shut us down and we will struggle with their bigs Scott and Glenn. We have gotten much better at defending the three especially with Minor getting alot of PT. Problem is SFA shoots the least amount of threes in the conference by far. They score inside and do it well which has been a problem for us in the past. Could be the same problem we have when we face SHSU also with Clavelle. However I can see us defeating TS due to our improved perimiter defense, which could make for a do or die re-match with MSU in LC!

LU vs. SE. La. Updates/LAMAR WINS 57-52

The big question is why did it take 20 games to settle on a starting lineup? Shouldn't that have been accomplished in the 10+ pre SLC games? -
Also, the college rule about throwing elbows to clear space is an automatic technical fall if done above the shoulders I think. Then refs can go to the monitor to see if it was intentional and can even eject the player.
New rule this year. Trying to get the swinging elbows out of the rebound. -

PNG will be strong again next year. Alot of good weapons returning from a 3 round deep playoff team=experience! Don't see Ozen in the playoffs, LCM will fall off like Lumberton, and Vidor. WHo knows because there's always the teams that sneak up on people.
Miller replacing Doty will make for a different passing attack, but the running game will take away some of the sting. My biggest concern is the big elephant in the room around these parts, the Defense?? A lot of returners in the secondary and at LB, but that group did not play well last year. Will the year of experience help or is it just what it is? The group up front and DJ are gone that could put more pressure on the secondary?? I think Peveto will make plays at LB and Romero looked better late in the year, but they gave up alot of points those last two games!
Not only do we have the secondary, most of it, returning and some linebackers, we also have Davis who played on the D line and rotated in with THompson and Easley. Players coming up from JV on the D line are good size but very quick, fast and aggressive. Some of these boys will grow alot over the next year. I think our D will be very good next year.
I hear what your saying, but returning a defense that wasn't very good last year is not something that makes you warm and fuzzy. They still have a lot to proove. Hopefully the year of experience makes them better, but pinning your season on hope is rough. -
I love your breakdown here. I need to set with you at a game! We'll get along fine! ;D ;D
Anytime my friend, Anytime. I thought about trying to find you at the Central/Humble game, but it got so cold, I didn't want to move much! If Washington loosens the rains on Mitchell and lets him run some more, Central could have a big run. FWood looses Metzhold, Dawson will take a step back, Angleton will drop back, Humble looks tuff. Big school region 3 could be up for the taking this year? Unfortunately I don't see Washington changing his stripes. As for DII...As much as it pains me to say it, It's all LaMarque! Even Brenham won't get past the Coogs. I think we will see an Aledo/Lamarque rematch. Probably withe the same outcome. -
1. Central(2) 2. Livingston(1) 3. PNG 4. LCM 5. Vidor 6. Ozen 7. Nederland 8. Lumberton huge battle between 3-7, but this district is wide open. anybody can win on any given night. all teams lost a lot of players with the exception of livingston. lcm returns a lot of offense, vidor returns a lot of defense. that's my opinion.
Who? LCM looses 90% of it's offense with Gonzo and Sonnier! I think the top three are correct, but Nederland will be #4 in that mix. Not necessarily 4th, but top 4. Ozen has talent, but they always do!!! Vidor is back to being Vidor as is Lumberton (notice how quiet it has been the past few years from up north! ::) ). And as I stated before the Bears are loosing it's 1-2 punch! If I had to rank 'em today. 1. Livingston (Can win the district, but will struggle to win in the playoffs due to the system) 2. Central (Mitchell takes the next step) 3. PNG (New signal caller, but great weapons at his disposal and this coming Senior group won a lot coming up through the ranks) 4. Nederland (Young QB got his feet wet last year and they had a lot of Soph's step up last year...Good 2013 class means a year away from a DC) 5. Ozen (Talent alone gets 'em close) 6. LCM (Crouch gets 'em close) 7. Vidor (Mathews gets 'em close...to the bottom) 8. Lumberton (Got some good youth programs, but a few years away) I don't see a standout in this district that will compete for a State Title. -
