Manvel vs. La Marque Updates/LaMarque Wins/Comments
badndn replied to WOSgrad's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads

Yes back in 96 or 97 La Marque won state in d2 and Texas City won it in D1. I believe it was 23-4a back then though.
1997,La Marque won it's third consecutive State Title. 1995 was the last unified title in Class 4A ,1996 and 1997 were in Class 4A Div. II. Texas City was the champion in Div I in 1997. La Marque went to the title again in 1998, making it 6 consecutive years. The only time that was done by any team in any division in the State of Texas was in the early 1920's, which was Waco. Unfortunately that powerhouse of a team from Stephenville kept La Marque from winning it in 3 of those 6 years.
Great, Great run. Is there another one in the Coogs future? By the way who broke that streak in 1999? ;D -
Friendswood vs. Lake Travis Semi Final Predictions?
badndn replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Friendswood looks like a team on a mission this year and Lake Travis has not been the juggernaut (undefeated) power this year but have had a few injuries slow them down. Going to be a good one- Friendswood-42 Lake Travis-35 Go win state Mustangs!!
Who did FWood lose to? Who did LT lose to? By the way not slamming FW. You asked for a prediction! So how is picking the 3 time defending State Champion, whose only losses this year were to the other defending Champion and A now 13-1 Cedar Park team (vindicated), a slam to FW. Champion is still champion until prooven otherwise. Look folks, if you had your choice of opponent this week, Callalen or LT, with a tilte game appearance on the line, who are you picking. LM got a better draw. -

Question about Nederland and Larry Neumann
badndn replied to nedfan88's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Anybody wanting to fire Larry Neuman is crazy. Hes the best coach in the area. If he had players like PNG and Central he,d win district every year.
That's funny right there! Three seasons ago we had a coach that said he didn't have the talent to compete with Nederland, now we got a new coach and someone from Nederland is saying this about our talent. Prooves what good coaching does for ya. One of these seasons Neuman will have a healthy team and he will no doubt be DC again. The man can coach. -
Lamar vs. Rice Predictions? RICE WINS!

Yea after the UT game and the first half of this game, I thought LU had figured out how to play some defense. I actually thought, WOW, this could be the start of something great...Then we came out the second half and needed the Hymlic!!! -
Nederland needs a [glow=red,2,300]DISTRICT TITLE [/glow] in the last 18 years not a state title
Isn't it true that Nederland would be the 20-4A district champions this year, if they had stopped Central from scoring in the final minutes??
False..They'd be Co-District Champs with PNG and Central, but could claim DC because of wins over both teams. PNG ran a spread offense the past two years without a Cam Newton type at QB. Ran it very, very well to be exact. You need a Cam Newton Tpe to run the Spread Option! Besides Nederland had the closest thing to a Cam Newton Type this year. 6'5" 245 lb QB. Just couldn't run. ;D
He ran just good enough, don't you think? OK nit-picker, don't you think PNG would have maybe even won state with a Cam Newton type QB.....just a thought. That's being very successful.
No. I dopnt. Our offense scored. Having a Cam Newton Type would not have made a difference. Having an Auburn Defense Would!!! We lost because of our Defense or lack their of. Our offense could score on anyone. Point being made is that Nederlands problem the past few years has not been its Spread Offense. It's been the fact that the OLine was not very good. If the OLine is not good it doesn't matter what offense you run! -
As usual, you guys know nothing. A few months ago the biggest argument against LU, UNT, and any other regional school joining the WAC was travel. Well guess what? The center is now in Texas. With Utah st nearly out the door, Idaho and SJSU are now the odd balls much as Tech was for years.
Yeah we are all clueless...You are so much more in tune with reality than anyone else! ::) A few moths ago the WAC would have been entising to a UNT, ULL because they had Boise St., Hawaii and Nevada...But the travel WAS the biggest issue. Now without programs that have gotten national attention the past 5 years, what is the draw for UNT and ULL?? Better off expanding the Sunbelt.
-
TexazBall, you got Mitchell as Newcomer and 1st team. Can't have both.
-
BISD has open enrollment within the district if I am not mistaken. It has to do with the two "Magnet" schools correct? If a player transfers to LCM and is found not to have paid the $1700 annual fee and still lives outside the LCM district, then I would call for LCM's head! Serious multiple year penalties in whatever sport it is. This has to be governed tightly.
I am sure you guys can produce a list that is better than our district coaches that cut film and scout for a living.I am not saying they are perfect.I am sure they are better than the agenda oriented list you will produce!
Wrong...Head Coaches voted. Head Coaches don't cut film and scout...They have Middle School coaches and lower level coaches doing these things for them and they get a report. This has allways been a big problem at the college level with the coaches polls. Most coaches admitted that the SID actually votes for them because they pay more attention to the football landscape.
Central=11 P.N.G=6 Livingston=4 Nederland=3 L.C.M=3 Ozen=2 Vidor=1 ...I guess you do like it Soulja .. :D
Typically the DC gets the most on the team. and so on. Nederland only having 2 on the list would validate Sonnier and Neumans spots. Lots of youth on that team. So essentially Nederland has 3 with Neuman. Green was the hardest not to put on the team. In the end that came down to wins and losses since there were some very good QBs this year. Newcomer of the year is usually a Sophomore. Hard to argue that Mitchell being a Sophomore and leading his team to a DC is not Newcomer of the year.
With Utah st nearly out the WAC door, that leaves San Jose st Idaho New Mexico st UTSA Texas st La Tech Denver If the Wac could unload Idaho and San Jose, Could the remaining 5 be enough to lure Lamar, UNT, ULL, and Ark st. Before anyone scream UNT would never. UNT is not going CUSA. CUSA will take Big 12 left overs after the Big 12 collapse.
Sunbelt is better than what you have here. No way those three would leave Sunbelt for this.

This was the case a few years back. PNG vs Brenham and Nederland vs LaMarque back to back at Reliant to open the season, then the following season also at Reliant PNG vs LaMarque and Nederland vs Brenham. We loved it!

If you can't engage in any extraciricular activities (UIL) then there will be no recruiting. Kinda useless if you think about it. What kid wants to go to another school (maybe better academically) and pay for it, but not be involved in any UIL events?? don't think just sports here folks.

Don't get offended, it's an opinion!!! More PNG Offense, Less PNG Defense! Defense was tuff for me, becuase from what I saw at PNG games, no defense was very good (we scored alot on everyone). Also went with 2 RB and 3 WR on offense for 13 and 4 DLine, 4 LB for 12 all due to different schemes. With Keyser comming in as a 6'9" Freshman and Roc only needing one additional recruit next year, I am hoping he is able to get one of the top JUCO big men. This current group would be very good with a T. Fairley or N. Beard type big man.
I see us running the ball more next year with Miller. He is bigger than Doty and has a strong arm I am just not sure about his accuracy and instincts.
Miller is more of a running threat than Doty. Very smart kid (#1 in his class last I heard). He does not have the arm that Doty had, but few do, he can sling it though. I suspect we will see more designed QB Draws and some Spread Option, but PNG will still throw the ball regularly.
The one thing that i am excited to see is how little jimmy Salter will mature as a QB. Being only a Sophomore, he was forced into a situation that noone would ever want to be in. Yet, he showed tremendous poise and maturity for his age. The experience and adversity that he went through this season is priceless when it comes to experience. We know he will grow physicaly, but also know that he will grow mentally. The next few seasons will be fun to watch. He is going to be a good one, mark my words. ;)
I have heard about Salter for a couple of seasons now, but what I hear is that WOS is set bigtime at QB the next 4 years. Freshman kid next year may even push him some in 2012. Nice problem to have! ;) -
Manvel puts some of its 3rd and 4th string players in with the score 56-21 midway through the 4th, resulting in a safety, PNG having good field position from the ensuing kick, and converting that to a quick TD. That swung the momentum enough to make the game appear close.
Call up fatmaverick and see if you can get your hands on the video, then you will find out that PNG did not score on the next possesion after the Safety. We threw a pick!!! We scored later after we forced a fumble. Let's move on PNG fans...We had a great season...Our boys aren't perfect...They make mistakes just like the kids from Manvel did...They are 16, 17 & 18 years old...The only thing that bothers me is when I see a kid comit a stupid PF and stay on the field. Any coach worth a poop will take the kid out immediately to get his point across. At least for a few plays. Faircloth did this with Thompson Saturday night and he has done it with both DJ and Doty this season. Manvels coach did it a few times as well with some players. Now Willis' coach seemed to be egging it on!
