Top 5 Highschool Football Coaches from S. E. Texas

This is SO easy: 1. Brandon Faircloth 2. Doug Ethridge 3. Danny Malone/Matt Burnett (tie) 4. Bum Phillips 5. Dan Hooks/Curtis Barbay (tie) Sorry about the ties; we've just had a lot of great coaches here.
Pretty sure she was joking! Being a Homer. Ethridge should be in the top 5. Hooks and Barbay have to be up top as does WRSmith. No disrespect to BF but he jumps Etheridge and Phillips in 1 year??? ::)
-
i think there are about 10k paying fans that would rather watch LU vs. Mcneese, Slam or SFA than an Idaho, utah st.,sjsu game Bowl game?..so we'd miss out on the Cucumber Bowl against Akron..big whoop
big whoop! Big money. The whole draw of playing FBS is the money gained by playing in A. a Bowl game and B. against the big money schools. Most of the big FBS schools, UT, LSU, A&M, etc. Would much rather schedule an FBS lamb for the slaughter than an FCS lamb! -
Minor with 17...Who saw that comming? I see him as a very good perimiter defender that can shut down oppossing scoring threats, but not much of an offensive threat. This is a big plus if he can be another scoring threat off the bench.
I've been to most WB home games at Da Butch this year and a few times have had to go back to the car for "stuff". I never had any trouble coming back. I told them before I left the gate I was coming right back and a few minutes later came back with the same person at the gate. I'm sure if it's another person they may demand proof you already paid but it all boils down to how you talk to people.
No...This was not an isolated case from this past weekend. Many people I talked to had issues at the gate. Still worth not having to take the trip to H-Town, plus it could change from week to week depending on who is there.
Some of it is that high school football just isn't the end all to folks the way it was when I was growing up. When I was a kid at 5pm the stores were closing because everyone wanted to get to the game. I do not think it is that way anymore across the board.....it is in some towns but not as widespread as back in the day.
Great point. With cable and the internet and all the other entertainment options out there today, I can see why the decline in attendence in many towns.

Lamar and road games have not been a very good combonation the past several years. From what I have seen we should win, but I will hold back on making any predictions on this group until they win a few on the road

Todd Dodge to Abilene High??
badndn replied to Mr. Buddy Garrity's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Doubt Dodge would go HS at this point. Pretty sure that Todd will continue to be paid well by UNT until he gets another position since he was in a contract. Usually thats how it works, the contract is void when he becomes employed again. This is one reason a lot of coaches sit out a few years after loosing a job. Best Abilene could do is $100K - $110K per and that would mean a significant pay cut. If he takes any job over the next few years it will be at a major college program that can pay him enough to subsidize the UNT contract. -
Gohlke is now training my son and hes still aggressive, love it!
Different Gohlke. Chris is the trainer. He played Safety on the 99 team that went to the title game. And played it aggressively! His younger brother Derek was the RB on that team that beat Willis.
You know, why can't the Butch schedule a double header on a Saturday? Maybe more people could attend and daytime football is sure different.
Very, Very difficult to do in a HS stadium. They can do it in the domes or at Rice because they seat 50+ thousand so there is extra seating available while one team waits for the other to finish it's game. Can't do that in a 15K seat stadium. Best you could do is like this Saturday with a 1 PM and 7 PM games. Not really a double header. Actually the chance to watch great SETX HS FB on back to back nights without a long drive is great!

I know they have a 6'6" WR. Put up alot of points, but that district was top heavy. Humble is obviously very good and KP just beat Brenham, but beyond the top 3 the rest were very week.

Going to get a paper so I can read the rest of the article but IMO this is the key to a success team this season as they (newcomers) can all shoot the rock.
Let's hope they can do it in a real game against a good opponent. Our prior years top recruits couldn't shoot the rock in real game situations.
The problem we have had in the past with some of our top recruited guards was that they were 6' or shorter and had trouble getting good looks. This will not be the case with Davis and Adams, which should open up the floor more for the slashers like Harris, Nelson, James and Lamb. -
Final men's hoop scrimmage notes
badndn replied to HoopInsider_Cooper's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I'd expect Davis and Adams to spell one another, which will give us a deep threat at all times. And both are big guards, one being tall and rangey at 6'6" and the other being stout at 6'3" and 200+. No more little guys that have trouble getting good looks and shots off. PG James / Harris / Miles / James 2G Miles / Lamb / Adams / Adams 3G Davis / Adams / Davis / Davis PF Nelson / Harper / Brazier / Nelson C Custer / Brazier / Harris / Custer I think Roc will have a lot of different combonations starting depending on the matchups. Which will be a great benefit to have. -
There was just a lot of confusion when we were there before. They had trouble with the clock and trouble with the play clock. It was like they had somebody running the scoreboard who knew nothing about football and didn't understand the signals from the refs.
Play clock and game clock are run by a member of the local Officiating Chapter (paid), not someone from the stadium or the home team.

OF No Doubt. Nederland a close second with all the issues they had this year, to get back in!

Whats even funnier than that bh89-2 is that when I go anywhere in Mont Belvieu and ask about the Eagles they all claim to be Bronco fans!!! ;D
-
You do realize that when it rains a passing offense has an advantage right. Because the footing is what gets slippery, especially on a artificial turf, and the WR knows where he is going. The DB doesn't! Also PNG averaged 36.8 ppg not 33. Go check the scores. Our defense would have had stats closer to BH as well had when been playing North Forest, CE King, Lee, etc.. Again I say go back and look at what you did against quality opponents pre-district and against Dayton!

They are to worried about paying the UIL.... ;) I'll give WOS one thing for sure, they always "beleive"....just never do anything with it. ;) Guess they can always go clean their 1980's State sign near the stadium. ;D ;D
WOW, once again a BH fan calling the kettle black! When was the last time BH made it to a State Title game? or hell, even made a deep playoff run? But boy do they believe they are a perennial state title contender.

Lumberton vs BH= Lumberton 33 BH 13 (BH -20) Lumberton vs PNG= PNG 42 Lumberton 14 (PNG +28) Crosby vs BH= BH 35 Crosby 21 (BH +14) Crosby vs PNG= PNG 38 Crosby 7 (PNG +31) Two can play at that game. We played a healthy Nederland in one of the biggest rivalries in the state and lost in a game that came down to the last play! You hung on to beat a battered Nederland team that was without Forney and Sonnier. Very, very different team! PNG average loss this season was (-4) BH average loss this season was (-34) ouch...gotta hand it to you, when you go down you really go down! PNG average win was (+19) BH Average win was (+18)

Way to eat that Crow like a man. I expect Central to dismantle GP after what happened this past friday night. We are rooting for the Jags and the rest of 20-4A. Time for this district to once again show 19-4A who is boss. Funny how they ride the coat tails of that Purple team over there!
