It's tough not to get a little defensive about these things because there's so much work that goes into it. DCTF does a great job, they have a luxury FNF doesn't in that they have 2 full time staffers plus interns, writers etc. We have zero full timers on the writing side, but that's not an excuse, regardless I should have caught the Livingston deal sooner, it makes me sick when I miss stuff like that because I feel like I hurt a group of kids.
The positive is despite zero full time staff we've managed to last seven years with the magazine, which is saying something. We will be more accurate than DCTF in some areas, less accurate in others and we'll both be wrong in a lot. Hopefully, even if we are totally wrong you'll find a few articles or information that's useful in the magazine.

Couple of things
1) We don't operate exclusively out of the DFW area, we have writers from all over the state. Except for one part of the state literally (you guessed it SE Texas). El Paso, Laredo, Amarillo, RGV, we have em but SE TX is literally the only spot.
2) The writer who did the SE TX 5A predictions was from Houston, I thought he did a decent job all things considered.
3) Livingston is a screw up, the writer missed it I tried correcting it but it was too late for edits. Stuff happens with over 1000 schools, esp with Livingston moving after realignment. But I'll own that one, Livingston people please feel free to be pissed.
4) We've tried for several years to get some reliable in SE Texas to write for us but for whatever reasons they either don't want to; or say they will, realize its more work than they thought and back out, or have other commitments or they move to DFW.
5) If you know someone who would like to write for us by all means e-mail me. Would love to have a reliable person in SE TX.

Paris improved the schedule quite a bit from last year....and remember last year they gave Madison all they wanted in the regional semis...this Lincoln team isn't as good as Madison and Paris is probably a little better
-
Lincoln and Paris played once in Dallas and Lincoln won by 10...the game being in Commerce will mean its basically a home game for Paris...it'll be closer than many think
-
I was told by tournament officials that one player from both sides was ejected...one other player was removed by Crosby but the 7on7 coaches removed him not the officials.....so give credit to Crosby for policing their kids when they did wrong.
As for the other stuff....it usually takes two to tango..I'm sure there was wrong on both sides

it was an error on my part, we had the scores correct but I simply had an error copy and pasting and some of last weeks stuff got mixed in with this week since I do each region one by one. So my apologies for the mix up, I did place the correct data in for Region II Division I.

Qualifying doesnt correlate because some SQTs are easier to qualify than others etc. Now performing at the State Tournament is a different animal, teams who do well at state generally do very well in the fall.

The DEC has met about the "allegations" and Beaumont Ozen was cleared of any and all wrong doing in this matter. As far as Ozen is concerned this is now a non-issue.

Port Neches-Groves, who went 3-1 last week at the Lufkin SQT (lost in the semi-finals to Whitehouse) will be playing in the Cy Falls SQT. PNG is in Pool B with Cy Creek, Cy Fair and Willis. Cy Fair can't advance due to having already qualified.
Crosby who went 2-1 last week at the Lufkin SQT (only loss was to Whitehouse in pool play) will be in the Tyler SQT. Crosby is in Pool B with Sulphur Springs, Longview and Tyler John Tyler's JV.
Beaumont Ozen who went 0-3 last week at the Lufkin SQT will also be at the Tyler SQT. They are in Pool A with Tyler John Tyler, Magnolia West and Whitehouse's JV. -

Does the school hosting the Playoff Game get a percentage of the ticket sales, a straight sum of money, or just concession stand profits?
They charge a rental fee and get the concessions. Gate is distributed to UIL and the two teams participating.
Host school gets parking also...I think the gate got 15% to UIL...officials cut then the teams split whats left
Who still charges for parking? Pasadena used to, but I have not been there in a while.
Pretty much every stadium in DFW charges for parking in the playoffs, I know Tyler charges, Midland and Odessa charge, Waco charges, Heroes in San Antonio charges also honestly its been a long time since I've been to a playoff game at a venue that didn't charge for parking its a good way for the host school to make a little extra revenue -

momentum has swung in Ozen's direction big time

Ozen getting completely dominated early

Guy from Louisiana on rivals said Jasper is now playing New Orleans Cohen HS in Week 4, in Jasper...
Not sure if its legit because he said Jasper dropped La Grange, LA...when I was told La Grange dropped Jasper -
Just one clarification, the district previews were all done by local writers and the state rankings reflect those previews. David Coleman who works for the Port Arthur newspaper wrote the 20-4A preview.

First year the cover had 2 San Antonio kids and a West Texas kid
Last year we had an Austin kid and a DFW kid (woulda had a Houston kid if he returned our calls; and the DFW kid was a no brainer)
This year was weird because we went with a QB theme and well frankly the top recruited QBs in the state are all in DFW.
So I'm not sure citing the cover for this year is quite fair when it comes to the magazine being a "DFW" magazine. I think we've gotten better each year so hopefully the third edition is the best, but I'm interested in some legit feedback regarding magazine content. -
What made it a DFW magazine? I know we've tried really hard to give equal coverage, so if there's something missing I'd love to pass it along..

This is confirmed with the Stephenville coaches as I'm the one who broke it lol

The Trinity/DeSoto games vs. the Oklahoma schools is part of a classic in Week 1.
Ozen playing Cedar Hill is NOT a done deal, there are rumblings there could be a change to the matchups -
Kincade is a nice place...but its not Cowboys...Bmt Enterprise got it wrong..

That article is not correct...I spoke with Bruce Hardy himself..Sept 14-15 schedule at Cowboys is this...
