  1. Whether you like it or not, McDonald is the best hire here. The players and community support him 100%. The man is about as loyal as it gets when it comes to this job. Lumberton born and raised and came back to coach the game that he loves. Bringing in an outsider is not always the best move, because honestly to most outsiders, Lumberton is a stepping stone job. Reyes benefited greatly from that stable of kids he had. With all the talent graduating, this job is gonna be tough. McDonald isn't some guy who is gonna treat this as a notch on the ladder, and leave. That place is his home.

  2. I can’t see Silsbee being District Champs with what HF has coming back vs what Silsbee is losing. I’m not sure of Jaspers returnees. WOS won’t be a threat. I can see HF running the district and Silsbee/Jasper vying for second place. I would expect Silsbee to have 6-8 wins depending on who is scheduled in non-district action with a playoff berth and a 2nd round exit. What do y’all think?

  3. There is speed in OF to stretch the field and create space, i'm just most worried about the OLine. IF they can get a solid ground game going, I can foresee a good dose of quick game/RPO style offense to help the OLine. I don't foresee a whole lot of 3 step drop back and let er' rip. I think some people have a misconception of the spread just being a "slinging it deep". OF could make some money on short/Intermediate routes. You would be surprised how many simple bubble/slant/hitch routes turn into TDs because of one missed tackle. Lumberton for example lives off the short/intermediate passing game and getting the ball into the hands of their studs in space. The more I think about it, the more excited I get to see what the orange and white can do in the spread.

0 double digit win seasons, 0 3rd round trips, lots of losing/.500 seasons but yes success and keep that slot t going… lol

A double digit season would be a season with 2-3 losses max and a deep playoff run. That is not feasible in most SETX schools, much less Orangefield.

OF Historical Record by Offense and Coach

  6. Anyone who thinks Orangefield has the personnel to run the spread, and be successful is sadly mistaken. OF historically has been bad at running anything other than the Slot T.  The Slot T helps when you don't have good lineman to protect a QB who is trying to read a defense to make a good throw. There are not many lineman bodies walking the halls of Orangefield so the Slot T is the way to go if you wanna continue to be successful in OF. You can't change my mind because OF saw instant success making the switch from the Pro I to the Slot T and they have been way more successful ever since then.

I'll ask you a simple question.  And, since all we do is give opinions, this is all the answer will be.   If Nederland had PNG's coaching staff you think Nederland would look as bad as they have been?

How about this:  You don't think Buchanan at Aledo or Surratt at Carthage had any affect on the school winning and community support?  Trust me -- if PNG was going 0-10 there would not be the excited that you see now and seen in the past under the right coach.  PS, what has happened to Nederland?  Could it be because of the wrong coach?!  I think so!    Again, my opinion!

I think if you swap staffs, Nederland may have a slightly better season, who knows? But they dang sure aren’t gonna win state in one year or even come close to it. Why? Because coaching is a small part of a way bigger picture. A picture full of moving parts.

Let PNG look as bad as Nederland look and see what that culture looks likes. Good coaching brings about good culture.  If Nederland had Joseph and PNG had Nederland’s coach we’d be talking about how bad the PNG culture is.

I disagree with this. You wanna pin it all on coaching but PN-G has been successful for a long time, not just under Joseph. Multiple state championships and great seasons to prove this. Always competitive and in every game just about. Again, the two schools do not compare when it comes to the culture. There have been some amazing coaches come through Nederland and they still have 0 state championships. It is not just the coaching that is the culprit. PN-G is on a whole different planet when it comes to support from the community. Teams don't identify themselves by their coaches. They define themselves based on their identity. Ask any state champion how they got there. I guarantee you, coaching is a small part of an identity this is NOT rooted in a coach. Great teams are lead by great young men that bought into a program with the support of their community. WO-S lost that community support based on a hire they didn't like. Now look at them. They are missing their identity because the community turned on the coach, school, and the players' performance on the field followed. Tell me I am wrong. The game is bigger than just a good coach.
