  1. Grumbling about work hours from guys who have never worked at a State Championship level before. Everyone always wants the glory until it's time to put in the work.
  2. This is the problem, Poole at BH has a massive ego and typically gets what he wants when he wants it. Kids don't want to cut their hair, well that is not an issue because he can expel them with impunity because he has the absolute 100% support of the community, especially the old guard "we can, we will we're Barbers Hill" folks. Even with the media crawling all over the district on the issue, he continues to operate the way he always has because of that support. I actually like that aspect of this community. Poole very rarely misses when he swings, so that breeds the confidence to make controversial moves whenever they may arise. It may even play into the willingness to force out a damn good football coach simply because his son isn't playing as much as Poole would like. He's done this same thing at least 3 times before and each time it has worked out beautifully because the candidate he brought in after the previous was disposed of was considered a big enough fish make the community forget about the last guy. This actually may be the first time he has run up against a chance that it won't end up that way. Trust and believe, if he were to land a coach with the last name 'Dodge' this offseason, none of us would ever talk about this situation again. The only conversation would be that BH somehow hired Todd/Reily Dodge, and they were on a Rocketship to the moon. It will be interesting to see how this one plays out because if it ends with a relatively unknown coach who doesn't produce the football success those in town expect, it could go sideways for Poole. I guess we will all be sitting around with our popcorn to see if he can pull another rabbit out of his hat.
  3. Unfortunately, this is the situation that has been created by the admin at BH. No one wants to uproot their family, move them to BH, just to be removed in a few years for not doing what they are told. Especially with the move to 6A pending, this job is at its absolute least degree of desirability at this very moment. Abseck would've stayed and continued to build for years to come, but alas, that ship has sailed. They were in the same boat many years back when they ran Don Price off but then began the inflated salary technique to lure in big time candidates. Gauge, Westerberg and Abseck later, they find themselves in the same boat with very few chips left to play to lure in a big fish. I have no doubt they'll get a great coach, but the days of hand picking their guy are probably over.
  4. Joseph Vandergrift Snelson Is the fourth guy Surratt?
  5. Joseph Vandergrift Snelson Is the fourth guy Surratt?
  6. This is probably the right answer. I wonder if that would be an interview question?
  7. Considering they've already offered the job to two others, I'd assume they're not looking for a consulting companies help. My money is on a coach from South of the area who is real familiar with Gators.
  8. Wing T on deck for BH!!! May be the only thing those folks would run Poole out of town for.
  9. This is WILD by the way. Were they shopping the job behind Abseck's back?
  10. Nevermind, I found him. The first roster I found had him left off.
  11. I trust your sources because I know you do not do rumors, but I am not seeing a Poole on the BH roster from last season.
  12. I gotta say, I am shocked by this. You gotta think they've already got their guy in mind if they're squeezing Abseck to leave. I remember when Abseck was hired, they made a run at Todd Dodge. Curious if that is in the cards. Another name to consider, Jeff Joseph.
  13. There is no better place to hold the TXHSFB championship weekend than ATT. Numbers will fluctuate depending on the teams involved in the games. I have attended every year, all weekend, since 2011 and have made it a holiday tradition for my family. It is truly the highlight of our year. Does it cost a bunch? Yes. Do I have all year to prepare for that cost? Yes. Is it worth every penny spent? Yes. You'll have the same issues no matter where the games are held if teams that do not travel well, or schools who are fairly new end up in the championships.
  14. This may be the game of the weekend! Can't wait!
  15. I honestly expected that he would've announced his retirement by now.
  16. It's just weak. I'm not sure how it played in HJ, but Liberty's numbers were way way down in the lower classifications. Makes sense when admin signals they do not think they can compete.
  17. Not that I am aware of, but I am sure there are athletes in Livingston who just need to be set up to succeed.
  18. The turnaround in Huffman, in this same district, should signal hope into the folks in Livingston. Hire the right guy, and this thing can turn around on a dime. It was only a few years ago that Livingston was very competitive and, I believe, had a playoff berth. They have some good young groups in the pipeline if a program is built and ready to roll. There is a coach who lives just West of the TX/LA border, who is currently coaching just West of the TX/LA border, who would be a great hire to begin building Livingston back up. I'm very interested in seeing who ends up with this gig.
  19. Wow!! Shocker of the year so far. Hold on there Hornets!
  20. Huffman’s hanging tough. Need a stop and score after half.
  21. Ok that explains it then.
  22. Huffman over Chapel Hill.
  23. I am not sure about that, but I keep hearing he will be back for sure if they make it to the second round. Almost makes it sound like the issue isn't an injury, but maybe grades. Not sure about that so take it with a grain of salt, but the lack on injury details and the assurance of his return at a specific time makes me lean toward that hypothesis.
  24. Most in this discussion are missing the point, the TXHSFB State Championships have become a major event. It is now a weekend long celebration of the entire season and can never again move to venues that cannot support it to be held in the same manor it is held now. That means, whatever stadium holds it must have at least 4 locker rooms, ample seating to absorb fans watching the game playing as well as the fans filing in for the next game scheduled and must have adequate parking and hotels nearby to hold fans and teams. From what I understand, the only other venue in the state that can manage that is the Alamodome, which is an aging and antiquated place. It ain't moving!!
  25. My sons and I have been doing a football podcast for the past couple of seasons where discuss and recap football from all levels, with a heavy lean toward TXHSFB. It's a great way for us to spend time together centered around something all of us love and get excited about, while also helping them learn a useful skill for life as they grow into young men. This week, we have scored a couple of really big interviews, and I wanted to share the link with you all just in case anyone was interested in giving it a listen. The interviews and scheduled releases are listed below. Huffman Falcons HFC and AD Joey Buchta - 11/13 Huffman Falcons Jr. QB Nolan Cook - 11/14 Episodes will be live on Spotify and Apple Podcasts sometime during the evenings on the two dates. If you are a coach or player and would be interested in appearing on the podcast, please send me a PM here on the site and we can set it up. Please like and subscribe to the show to get alerts when the conversations are available for you to listen. Happy Football!! Look us up in the Spotify or Apple Podcasts apps if you are interested in listening, I am not able to make links post on the site!!
