  1. Troy just dunked one and hung on for the tech. Who can blame him. The first of many?
  2. 19-9 end of 1 Lumberton had a good opening 5-0 thwn the tigers took control
  3. Sounds like a great experience for the Tigers and the Twolves. Neither rain nor snow nor heat nor gloom of night shall stay this basketball kids.
  4. What about BTW’s depth? Last year they lost quite a lot when any starter sat. Because of that the loss to Silsbee was almost inevitable.
  5. Don’t ask about the dunk count. They’ve got a bunch we’ve got none.
  6. Jeez. These 6A teams. My grandson is a freshman at Brazoswood HS in Lake Jackson. I was at his 9th grade game this morning. I think that BWood’s freshman A team is taller than our varsity. They’re not very good but still. And of course the Tigers are over matched here but tenor drastically so. It’s reasonable.
  7. That sounds like a good assessment. But the coaches think they have a shot ranking them at No. 6. And they sure looked good last night. As a side note, one of those 4A teams United played was Washington and the Timberwolves lost that one. And they lost it at home. Hmmm. As a Tiger fan it gives one pause.
  8. It's an interesting situation. What if they didn't look ahead? Based exclusively on 2022-2023 performance to date, with no looking ahead, Silsbee doesn't belong in the top 25. On this basis, not looking ahead, people might be wondering if perhaps the coach should have designed a softer preseason schedule. By the time Silsbee starts winning consistently it will be in January and we'll be in district. Nobody in district 19 except Silsbee is in the top 25. That isn't going to impress pollsters who aren't looking ahead. Silsbee would likely not end the season in the top 20. I kind of like this scenario actually. Nobody is much gunning for a team that isn't even ranked. The Tigers would be the sleeper of all time. But it's impossible. Almost everybody from a semifinal team is coming back. The coaches are smart, they know the realities of small town sports. So they are looking ahead. They can't help but look ahead. And if we were voting we'd be looking ahead too.
  9. One last comment on this from me. Silsbee would have won the game if they'd played it at a high school stadium. High school goal posts are 23'-4" wide. The NFL goal posts are 18'-6" wide. I thought it would be cool to play at NRG but it really wasn't. It's too big for 4A football from small town schools. The traffic was a nightmare and it cost the Tigers the game. Let's don't do that again if we can avoid it.
  10. You could see this coming almost from August. These two would meet in the quarterfinals and the one that scored last would win. It was a classic. It’s not too much of a stretch I think to assert that any team that Cuervo beats we could and would beat. And any team beats Cuervo could and would beat us. Based on what I saw today we’re that close. It’s almost as if the Cuervo kids celebrated a victory over their identical twin.
  11. Cuervo is battle tested. Two overtime wins 4 post season games. That’s bound to stand them well in the next game and maybe the next. Wimberly is an offensive machine of late. But I don’t think they have the power to handle the Gobblers.
  12. This just might be the greatest high school game ever played. No losers.
