  1. You see it in college where the punters have big legs. Plus punts are harder to field. I assume they prefer kicking off in high school because most guys kick it further off the tee.
  2. The UIL follows NCAA rules. You can punt a free kick if you choose to.
  3. I agree with this sentiment too. I’m from Texas, but live in Florida now. For all the accolades Florida high school football gets, it’s a joke. DISD reminds me of the Miami area. The city of Miami is basically open enrollment. All the talent in that city currently goes to Miami Central, because they have a popular coach. Northwestern, Columbus, and the rest of them are so-so. They get the left-overs. Thats what DISD has become. Follow the popular coaches, and no one says a word. Hard to believe SOC can have nearly 20 D1 kids, and the rest of the teams can’t chew bumble gum and walk at the same time. Hard to believe they have little to no talent. Every where Samples goes, to his credit, he wins. He accumulates lots of talent, and wins. Then he leaves, and those programs are non-existent again. Look at Dallas Lincoln, and Dallas Skyline. Compare them before his arrival, during his tenure, and after he leaves. Is it a coincidence? Look at what’s going on at Duncanville. Same blueprint, and no one says a word. I’m not saying he’s NOT a good coach. He is, but he also plays at a talent advantage, no other coach plays with. That’s why I’m hoping North Shore beats their A$& again today.
  4. I agree for the most part. Defensively, IMO, they are pretty well coached. They should beat everyone off talent alone. No other 5A school has 10+ D1 kids. SOC probably has 16+ D1 kids on the roster, maybe more. PNG don’t have a D1 kid, and probably don’t have a D1-AA kid on the roster. SOC should be in the thick of it every year with the talent advantage they have.
  5. First off, hats off to SOC. Players and staff. What to keep fighting, and show some heart and determination. Their got their butts physically whipped in the 1st half, and turned the tables. Great season to PNG. IMO, that was a winnable game, and they will ask themselves a million “what-ifs”. 3rd and 18 towards the end of the 1st half, that led to the touchdown, changed the whole complexion of the game. That play, and the ensuing TD pass, gave SOC the momentum they needed. The moment got too big for PNG, they made uncharacteristic mistakes, and SOC played like the veteran team they are. All that being said, can’t believe SOC won back-to-back. They underwhelm me when I watch them. And I’ll get grief over this, but I think it’s lack of coaching….. mainly on the offensive side of the ball. Defensively, they are sound. Unbelievably fast and athletic. Having 7 D1 kids helps. Makes you wonder, when they don’t have as much talent, will they look as good? Offensively, they lack creativity…. Majorly. It’s basically just, “we are gonna out athlete everyone”. Big, slow, sloppy offensive line. Suspect QB, that has freak 6’4” athletes to throw it up too. PNG just didn’t have the horses to win it, but they competed great. If they had some athletes in the secondary that coulda matched up with SOC, they woulda won the game. Great win for SOC, and those kids though.
  6. I agree. They are taking it to them on both sides of the ball. Surprised they are holing up defensively with only a 3 man front.
  7. Make SOC sustain drives all night. Don’t give up big plays, and they can win this thing.
  8. Great game. What heart and character by China Spring’s. Hate it for Boerne. They had a good team. Let’s hope the night cap will be as exciting.
  9. Agreed. Kid had more burst and wiggle than the older 2 kids. Wanna say all 3 that played are coming back. One or 2 of those kids will love to linebacker, or WR to fill that void. I told my brother that the Freshman reminded me of a young Tony Tompkins. One of my favorite, and most under appreciated PA’s backs of all time.
  10. Wanna say I heard 7 on defense and 5 on offense. Very young in the front 7.
  11. I don’t know if Region 3 isn’t as strong as we thought, or what?! But you would think that Cuero, Silsbee and a few others would be able to out athlete and have much more speed than Wimberley. I feel Wimberley is fairly well coached, but seem to lack athletes. That said, I’m not sure anyone will beat Carthage next year either. They have said for years that the current freshman, and sophomore classes are great.
  12. And Carthage is without their best offensive player the last 2 weeks
  13. I agree. Out of region 3 or 4 anyways. Glen Rose was the 2nd best team in 4A-D2. Silsbee, mainly Miller, would have scored, but couldn’t have kept Carthage out of the endzone.
  14. What a game. About as 2 evenly matched teams you can have. Two very well coached teams. Very few penalties. Classy programs and good kids.
  15. That #77 for Brock has a helluva motor. Good size kid too. Very good defensive linemen. Coming out of this timeout, would be a great time for their 1st pass.
  16. I’ve said the same thing. But they do what they do, as good as anyone in the state. It’s fun to watch this offense. I thought Brock had the upper hand, and it looks like Franklin has figured something out.
  17. Gunter much stronger and more physical than Poth. Surprising Poth beat Gilmer Harmony as bad as they did, and Harmony handled Newton easily. Not a good look for Region 3.
  18. #5 for Albany can really run. He’s a heckuva athlete. Big kid too. He could play for just about any program in Texas. #4 is a brute too. Mart needs to stop being cute, and just run #2 between the tackles. Then occasionally get #4 the ball in space. You can tell they have never had to sustain drives. They probably just big play the hell out of everybody.
  19. I believe Duncanville is more talented, but they have been since the 1st time they’ve played… if you look at it from college bound kids anyways. I believe the North Shore kids are a little more disciplined, and a better coached team though.
  20. Will be tough to move the ball through the air with that talented secondary too. I can see SOC playing “0” coverage and loading the box to stop the run. PNG will throw the kitchen sink at SOC. That’s how Katy was beaten. Vandegrift scored on 2 trick plays. Like someone said earlier, how can PNG matchup with the size of SOC? LETS GO INDIANS!!
  21. I believe North Shore will win. Been there, done that…. Several times, and I believe they are the more balanced team. Hard to cheer for the Dallas area, IMG wannabe teams.
  22. Most talented part of the country IMO. Throw in SOC and Cedar Hill which are very close. Couple that with loose restrictions on where kids go to school, or even worse, people turning a blind eye to where kids go to school, and you have loaded rosters.
  23. Katy played pretty undisciplined (or 1 kid did at least). Same kid had 2 roughing the passer called on him. 1 at the end of the 1st half that led to a TD instead of a field goal, and the other on the last drive of the game to set up the GW field goal. Woulda been 3rd and 14 or so, instead it gave them a 1st down. I don’t see Vandegrift beating neither Desoto or Guyer (looks like it’ll be desoto)
  24. SOC will have an elite defense, and a subpar offense. If PNG can eliminate the big play, they can win. They won’t score much against SOC. SOC will be very fast and physical. IMO, they are very sound on defense. Couple that with great players and lots of speed, and they will be tough. On offense, SOC is it very good. Huge up front. College sized kids, but over weight, and lazy. Their QB is not very good either, but at any point, with their speed, they can make a house call.
  25. Will they be there to keep naysayers at bay, to make real time adjustments, or just support in general?
