  1. Jack Alvarez was the OC. Jasper had some athletes on that team. Armstrong brothers, Laboris Bean, DeKendrick Vidito, and others. Won the state track meet that year too .
  2. CT’s teams were conditioned, and always, ALWAYS sound on defense. They tackled well, and lined up properly. They did for 35 years. I’m not a WOS fan, or grad, but it’s sad what they’ve purposely done to this program. As long as the current staff is there, it won’t be getting better.
  3. I agree. Ignorant people come in all colors. Those same people that wanted CT fired, also wanted a coach to match the demographic of the student/athletes. That same position was held by the superintendent. All those people got what they asked for, and I hope they keep Hickman around for several more years. The longer he keeps his job, along with the staff he hand picked, the further and further the WOS program will fall into the depths of mediocrity.
  4. Could always be a possibility with teenagers. But it seems that WOS isn’t very well coached or conditioned. This game will get ugly. Silsbee is not always more talented than WOS, but this year they are, and it’s not close. Add in the coaching factor and it’ll be Silsbee by 24 and I’m being conservative.
  5. Hickman may be on a 2 year contract since he is also the AD. But, all the other coaches on that staff will be on a 1-year renewal.
  6. When you let go of well respected tenured coaches, and replace them with your friends….. make sure your friends can make half time adjustments.. Or any adjustments for that matter.
  7. Giving up 50 to a team playing its 2nd game and that’s 2 divisions smaller. Another 4th place finish and 1st round exit.
  8. That’s pitiful.. IMO the person to blame is the superintendent. He needs to go. In order for him to go, the school board should be voted out. The Sup, from everything I’ve ever been told, had his mind made up on Hickman and never considered anyone else. There was never a job search. It started with the PC crap about the “chain gang” moniker. Then hire a head coach with no experience, and run off all the coaches loyal to CT and the “old” ways. Erase all identity of what WOS was and change the culture.
  9. The states longest winning streak ends this week. Jasper by 10
  10. WOS should win, and they are an improved team from last year. Newton is young and inexperienced, but they will always play hard, and won’t be intimidated. I’ll take Newton in an upset. I expect the coaching at WOS to cost them a few more games this year.
  11. Take away Turner and WOS wins 3 games. Such a poor offensive scheme, and poorly coached team. Every extra point chart and coaching philosophy in the world tells you to kick the extra point up 3. You NEVER go for 2 in that situation. They still have the jimmy’s and Joe’s though. Sad for such a proud and great program to settle for that.
  12. I agree. Demographics, mainly, has to deal with overall athleticism. Enrollment does help with depth. CE King didn’t get the memo though.
  13. I’ll take by PNG by 17+ I don’t believe in WOS ability to throw the ball and PNG will play downhill against the run. PNG will bully them like last year.
  14. I remember when Ozen first opened, they had some incredible talent. Being an offensive guy himself, Louis always had a very good offense. Big linemen and some outstanding receivers.
  15. I agree 100%. WB and United will be more harshly judged based on their non-district schedule, and head to head matchup rather than the North Shore, Summer Creek, Atascocita, and King games.
  16. WOS will win a close game, like last year. The years of WOS naming their score against area teams is over until they start playing better defense. They have to have better scheme, and tackle better if they want to win and win big.
  17. Partially torn meniscus supposedly. I believe he’s recovered, but they are playing it safe and bringing him along slowly.
  18. 50 points, against the #4 team in their classification, without Bussey says a lot about both teams.
  19. A great sportswriter and advocate for SE Texas high school football. Always enjoyed the Friday PA News sports page and his write up on games. Saturday morning recaps were always great too.
  20. Thomas is gone, and we all have our opinions of him. Some good, some bad. Thomas leaving didn’t fix that district. It’s still a mess. I’ve know several coaches that have coached within BISD, from all walks of life, and not one of them has ever spoke highly of the administration. From the superintendent down to the athletic director. It’s a shame too. Those kids and the community deserves better.
  21. I agree. WOS’s defensive ends out of the 50 for all those years were great athletes that were nothing more than linebacker type kids. WOS can run the 3-4 as well as the did the 50. That’s what they were running half the year against those spread teams anyway. The more crucial question is can they coach it, and out the kids in the right position? Last year they did not. Far from it.
  22. A group of old Beaumont guys played flag football in the 80’s against my old man, and a bunch of Orange County guys. Coach Louis was the QB, not long after he hung up his playing career. Their team was called Sudden Death. The man has a helluva arm. Those two teams would split about half the games. Coach Louis is a good man, and was a good coach, that never got enough credit, IMO.
  23. [Hidden Content] Don’t look like this has been shared yet, but one of the best people to ever be called Coach passed away. Truly one of the best people I’ve ever known. A genuine person, with a servants heart. He was a wonderful coach as well, and a terrific track coach. His son, Coach Andy Evans is a wonderful person and coach in his own right. RIP coach.
