Let’s stop the “Orangefield don’t have those type of kids” when every year we watch state championship games and some teams look like Orangefield.
Orangefield has tough, decently athletic kids most years and should be disciplined. Also maybe you hire a guy that is great hire, doesn’t want to coach at a big school, and wants to raise his family in a great community. Even it means not getting paid as much.

No doubt Orangefield has tough, hard working kids.   And that’s a start to developing a program.    Most years, Orangefield lacks size, and speed.   Hard to win at an unrealistic level without that combination.

The Orangefield 4x100 record was broken last year.   Does anyone know how long the old record stood?   I was born in 1978, and it was set before I was born.   Orangefield lacks speed.

Orangefield kids are disciplined as well.  Despite their lack of athleticism, Smalley, and others have had success because of the work ethic, toughness, and discipline.   Not because they out athlete anyone.

Being the biggest school in your district and entire classification helps too.  As long as the Bobcats stay 3A-D1 they will be ok with Smalley, and most anyone else.

But even then, they have a ceiling.

  2. What are the realistic expectations at Orangefield?   Answer that!

They don’t have the kids to play 4 rounds deep on a yearly basis whether they run the slot-T, wishbone, or spread.   I’m not sure scheme matters all that much.

There’s always a chance of making a great hire and him improving the program.   But they don’t pay much, and he wouldn’t stay long when the bigger programs come calling.

It’s not a knock on Orangefield kids.    I’ve got as much Orangefield blood running through me as anyone in Orange County.   It’s just the truth as I see it.

  3. Loved the fake punt from their own 15..  I can’t say I’ve ever seen that call at that point of the game, that deep in your own territory.

SOC is a slow starting team, it seems.   PNG needs to come out hot the 1st half and create a decent lead.    SOC’s staff clearly makes great adjustments, and I’m curious to see how Joseph and his staff adjust.

    Good Luck I-N-D-I-A-N-S!!

  4. SOC playing their best football right now.   PNG is too.

I was really hoping someone would beat Desoto, SOC, Ducanville this year.    Don’t like the model they follow.   Remind me of Florida schools with so much moving back n forth and loose guidelines.

  5. Desoto is a complete team and will have more size and speed than Willis has seen all year.   Lagway will keep them in the game for a bit,  but Desoto will have too much firepower.

If Lagway can put together a Kyler Murray type performance, they will have a shot, but that’s asking a lot from the young man.

I’ll be cheering for my Montgomery County neighbors though.

This reminds me of Madison vs North Shore in 2001.

It's all fun and games until the other team has by far the best player on the field, particularly at QB. The best QB in the nation can cover up a lot of flaws.

I was at this game.   Took about an hour to get through the coaching pass line.   North Shore started a lot of sophomores that year, and 2 years later one their 1st title.

VY was on another planet.   Best high school player I’ve ever seen.  Courtney Lewis was pretty good as well.

  7. Athletically, Silsbee is superior, but Bellville has the advantage up front on both sides.

Can Bellville stay ahead of schedule and stay out of 3rd and 6+?

Will Silsbee utilize Miller all over the field and get him 15+ touches.   I think that’s what the game comes down to.   I don’t think Silsbee will be able to run it effectively, so can they throw the ball, and get Miller touches out of the backfield?  Will they run the wildcat with Miller like Jasper did Smith?

Will Silsbee beat themselves like they usually do in the playoffs.   An undisciplined team is an undisciplined team.   A Tiger don’t change its stripes.   Going off history, Silsbee will self destruct.   Will it be this week or next?

Anddddd Cy-Fair just beat Katy in the 2nd round, Katy hasn't lost this early in the playoffs since 2001. Not surprising though this is the worst Katy team I've ever seen.

Probably my favorite program in Texas, but I believe their glory days are over.  I hey will still win 11-12 games a year and win district championships, but they days of seeing them in Jerry’s World is over.   Not to say a great class won’t come through and get there, but assuming they are shoe-ins for rounds 4-6 is gone.

The growth of Katy and all the rezoning has killed them.    It’s been years since they have had the top notch talent within the district.   It’s too spread out.   And throw in the offense that refuses to adapt.

They won’t be WOS or Cedar Hill as long as Joseph is there, but it makes you wonder what will happen when he’s gone.

  9. If Silsbee can play disciplined football where they don’t commit 15 yard penalties, or turn the ball over, I think they win.

I’m not sure they can.    I’ll take Bellville by 4.

I think it’ll take Miller having an all purpose type performance like he did last year against WOS to win it.    He can definitely do it.

What happened to all the crazy talk?

"The top 4 of WOS district is MUCH stronger then the top 4 of Bellville district. I think Jasper could win the district and so would HF."

"WOS has the much tougher district and schedule"

"If I were a Belville fan, I'd be scared to death of this game. All five WOS losses could've gone either way."

    "Their offense is still outdated"

"Bellville schedule is very weak as well."

'Bellville did not play a time with a record above 500. West Orange played 6."

"I think you could swap these two team's schedules and Bellville would be 5-5 (maybe 6-4) and WOS would be 10-0."

It was all a pipe dream.  One last grasp of holding out hope, and onto the past.  Most everyone knew WOS was not invincible, including their fans, but I believe out of the last 2 years, last nights effort was the true wake up call.

No one will ever fear them anymore, and very few will respect them.   You can respect the past, and not the NOW.

WOS as we knew them for 40 years is over until a change is made.
